Re: SAG updates its dubbing contract for the first time in two decades

Formosa Group actually put together a portable recording setup, the Formosa Acoustics Fort, they sent around during the pandemic. They have a whole video on their site detailing the assembly:

Re: SAG updates its dubbing contract for the first time in two decades

Based on this tweet (https://twitter.com/WhatHeSaidVO/status/1498734890929451011) by Michael Schwalbe, it sounds like the campaign to increase the non-union wage in LA didn't quite pan out and...

Re: SAG updates its dubbing contract for the first time in two decades

Heh. The Miami talent pool still seems a bit rough to me, and if the major publishers were interested in trying them out, they would have done so already. Taking a look at how things are at the...

Re: Why do some video games not list voice actors at all?

I doubt you'll find any one clear answer to this. But as far as I can tell, the SAG contract has required games to list its casts since 2005. So if it doesn't have a cast, that means either it's...

Re: SAG updates its dubbing contract for the first time in two decades

It seems like this is actually happening. More VAs like Ben Diskin and Tara Sands are tweeting about $125/hour with a 2 hour minimum being the new LA/NY non-union rate, and encouraging fellow VAs to...

Re: SAG updates its dubbing contract for the first time in two decades

That's only for sessions with roles that incur "vocal stress". It seems it was previously a recommendation by SAG, but now it's a firm rule set out in the contract. Presumably it would mostly affect...

Re: NYAV Gundam Seed Full Cast List

Thanks for posting this. I added most of them, but it looks like there are a couple of characters we don't have images for yet. Lally, Duncan and Adam are part of the Logos council, Miller is...

Re: SAG updates its dubbing contract for the first time in two decades

Noticed that SAG actually has the old contract with the exact details available. It was set at $60 in April 01 when the contract took effect, raised to $62 in 02, and then finally set at $64.25 in 03...

Re: NYAV Gundam Seed Full Cast List

Well, Sheh seemed somewhat dismissive (https://www.theoasg.com/articles/convention/stephanie-sheh-dubbing-gundam-seed-destiny/5722) of the Bandai-era Gundam dubs back when the SEED redub was...

Re: NYAV Gundam Seed Full Cast List

No, NYAV has been mostly non-union throughout its existence, their recent stuff for Netflix and Disney being the major exception. Outside of Mobile Suit Gundam TV and Char's Counterattack, I believe...

Re: NYAV Gundam Seed Full Cast List

Someone on Reddit posted a screenshot of the cast list from one of the early Destiny episodes:

SAG updates its dubbing contract for the first time in two decades

So it looks like SAG has finally updated its dubbing contract. A few years ago they made a new one especially for Netflix, but the general use one has remained unchanged since 2001. It set the voice...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

Well, just like when they established Blue Water, or when they tried to get into DVD authoring, I doubt they're doing it just for funsies. There must be a business calculation that making the...

Re: "Unchahted" (2021), Starring Tahm and Mahk

Could be worse I suppose. But it's weird seeing all these set pieces lifted from the games in what was supposed to be about Drake as a youth...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

For what it's worth, it looks like Sinclair specifically was announced because he was attending the con as a guest of Toei, and was present at that panel as well as their One Piece and Dragonball...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

Funi seems like they keep their internal studios fully occupied, so they're probably the most likely to outsource. And any projects involving Blue Water would be protected from a full Yashahime at...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

I expect it's the latter. Sad that Japanese companies are their only reliable customers. Still, not a lot of opportunities left to work on a Miyazaki production, so good on them. Be interesting to...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

I do wonder what part Ocean played setting this up. Given the whole Dragon Quest thing, I assume this wasn't just a one off special arrangement but a plan to offer US talent to their clients....

Re: History of Canadian voice acting

I believe that would be Bucky O'Hare in 91, which was the first of several Sunbow/Marvel productions. Ocean started doing dubs for Viz in 93, but they dubbed Spiff & Hercules from French in 92. I...

Re: History of Canadian voice acting

Well no, it literally isn't. Saban just did the music, and DIC had no involvement whatsoever. Jetlag was distinct company from DIC and Saban, regardless of where some of it's staff used to work.

Re: What exactly the reasoning for the "block of names" style of official voice credi

To be honest, I don't think there's any one clear reason for it. Well, for lower budget productions it's probably to cut any corner they can, and non-union productions would at times want to...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

I wonder how she's recorded. They could hire a full studio to do it like BZ does with Yashahime, if Bushiroad wants her badly enough to pay extra. But given the Dragon Quest thing, I think they might...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

I suppose if COVID broke the remote recording barrier, and you're already getting away with mixed Vancouver/Blue Water casts... Adding non-union US talent to the mix is the next step.

Could of...
