Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

I'd have to say no because they're under the impression that Xiaolin Chronicles is a Canadian show and was therefore restricted to Canadian actors. There is nothing...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

MLP's various guest stars does muddy the waters a bit. I'm still inclined to believe most of the Vancouver or Toronto shows with one or two Canadians in LA are produced under ACTRA. Tara Strong shows...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

If Kaye's involved, I can't see it being a nonunion LA dub. While Sesshomaru is a character he holds dear, he doesn't even go for unionized LA dubs. So if it's being recorded south of the border,...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

I've seen some people talk about this on Twitter, so I might as well share it here. Giles Panton dropped this little nugget (https://twitter.com/G_Panton/status/1295936285853376513) in August:

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

They haven't formally announced this yet, but since they're credited on the official site (https://altdeus.com/en/staffcast/partner.html) ... Digital Sound Magic is doing the English version of the...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

I don't know how common competing test dubs ever were, but I imagine pilot dubs in general are less common nowadays. Most anime is presold to international distributors prior to a single episode...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

Yes, this dub's been in the oven for a while. I've known about it for over a year now. Speculation is that Hasbro's had difficulties finding the show a home. There's probably some meat to that theory...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

Zoids Wild is on Netflix. It's live in Australia and will launch in a few hours in Canada, the UK and the USA. The dub was recorded at Ocean and stars Cole Howard as Arashi, Michael Adamthwaite as...

Re: Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous

Are any of these teens trained in gymnastics by any chance? I hear that's really effective against the raptors.

I think the biggest issue is that Jurassic Park as a concept doesn't lend itself...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

The game and series wound up being recorded in NYC at 3Beep, but Ocean created a pilot for Snack World.

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

It's a shame this is even in doubt, but when Viz goes a decade of dubs (yes, I know Mazinger Z: Infinity exists) exclusively recorded in LA, it is.

I think it would be bad PR to not have Ocean...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

Not a GVR dub, but I don't know what to think about Cardfight Vanguard's dub. The newest season's been on for over a month and there's been nothing but dead silence regarding the English version. No...

Re: Soreike! Anpanman to receive Western English Dub

Given Conan, I'm more inclined to believe TMS would send this to Bang Zoom. Though, I suppose SDI is a possibility if they want a one-stop-shop for both versions.

Re: Dubs that never aired in the country where they were produced

If you limit it to TV, then most Canadian and U.S. anime dubs would qualify, since the majority of them were released primarily on disc or streaming. ;) For instance, Cardfight Vanguard is the...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

I've griped about shows animated in Canada not having much else done here, but at least those are primarily produced for foreign companies. Now we've got Canadian companies...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

They've been producing a lot of dubs post-Funimation divorce, but they've all been in SoCal, mostly going to Bang Zoom. It might actually trip them up in the future, because a lot of the shows...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

They do seem to love their one stop shops, but they still work with monolingual studios, too. The live-action projects sent to Difuze were for English-only, even though that company is more...

Re: Are Vancouver dubs going to go extinct?

Not that the 2010s were amazing for any of the Canadian talent pools, but you might be right that Montreal was the worst off. Vancouver saw MLP and Ninjago, the two longest running shows ever...

Re: Gintama Ocean Dub

Subsidiaries of massive multi-nationals clearly just can't afford Ocean. Yet the Singaporean office of a TCG/wrestling company can. So can Korean toy companies whose products never get an English...

Re: Keeping track of shows recorded in Asia

I've been told they're also behind the English dub of Time Bokan 24 that recently premiered on CN SEA.
