Re: Sega Dream Casts
First off, I have watched the Legend of Thunder (I was a HUGE Pokemon fan a few years back. I enjoy the franchise more casually now). Sonic isn't a kid like Jimmy is. He's a teenager. At 15, it's perfectly normal for his voice to have deepened.
Secondly, Sonic and Goku have a lot in common. Fans have been comparing the two series for YEARS. At heart, they're both heroic, happy-go-lucky types who can be serious when time calls for it. If Sean used his Goku voice, he'd be a perfect fit. As for Blaze, I didn't want to take the cheap way out, but there weren't any other VAs I felt could really nail the character. Also, I removed the illegal video link you posted. That is strictly against the rules. |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Well, Goku's an adult, so my point still stands. I would much rather prefer women voicing Sonic, such as Keiko Utoku.
Oh, and sorry about the video link. I'll be much more careful from now on. |

Re: Sega Dream Casts
Well, after listening to a few of the recently-added audio clips (good job, Jackson!), I've come up with a good Blaze voice actress...
Blaze: Jamie Marchi |
Re: Sega Dream Casts

Sonic is a bit inconsistently portrayed (as far as short-tempered and cocky-ness goes), but still a far cry from Goku's personality. The closest he's ever gotten to matching Goku's personality is Sonic X. But, that's about it. In early games and the movie, he is a confident, short-tempered hedgehog that hates oppression and likes the challenge. Saving the world is kind of like his job, really. He can be pretty snarky too, so he's closer to the Flash or Dante from DMC as far as personality goes if you had to compare him to anyone. Other than a few details, they're different. So yeah...HA HA Overanalysis of two fictional characters that sell millions of DVDs and video games. *shot* But, with that said...Sean Schemmel MIGHT work if he tries something a tad different. I'm not a big fan of his Goku. He gets Goku's character but his voice is far too heavy to take fully portray his personality properly without sounding shrill or strained. But, as Roger Craig Smith as proven, heavy voices work on Sonic. Well, even. Adds to his confidence without taking anything away. So I'm not against it...I just don't see his voice coming out of Sonic's mouth clear enough in my head. ^^; I like some of your choices, though. Maxey Whitehead and Chris Rager, especially. Great fits. |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Well, what I meant was that even though some details are different, at heart they're similar light-hearted, fun-loving, carefree hero-types. Sonic is snarkier and Goku doesn't have a mean word to say about anyone, but they do have similarities.
Their supporting cast and the way they interact are similar also. Sonic and Shadow = Goku and Vegeta, Knuckles is Piccolo, Amy is Chi Chi, etc. That's what I was getting at. Yeah, I see what you mean that Sean's voice is a little "heavy". But I'm sure if he lightened it up a bit it'd work. I've been thinking of making a video or something called "If Sean Schemmel Was Sonic" that'd play out how I envision his voice for Sonic, basically taking some of his Goku lines and playing them over Sonic scenes. If I ever make it, I'll post the link here. Glad you liked my list. The only Funimation shows I've seen are Dragon Ball, One Piece, School Rumble, Sgt. Frog and Ouran High School Host Club, so it was a bit of a challenge to put together and add variety. In the same way, though, it was kind of fun. |

Well, like I said, heavy voices work, but it's kinda hard picturing Sonic with his voice. ^^; So if you ever make that video, I'd love to see it. :) |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Okay, here's another Sonic cast, this time using LA-based western animation actors:
Sonic: James Arnold Taylor Tails: Nicky Jones Knuckles: Keith Ferguson Amy: Grey Delisle Cream: Kath Soucie Espio: Phil LaMarr Vector: Gregg Berger Charmy: Tara Strong Big: Bill Fagerbakke Omega: Frank Welker Eggman: Clancy Brown Shadow: David Hayter Rouge: Cree Summer Silver: Josh Keaton Blaze: Jennifer Hale Orbot: Paul Eiding Cubot: John DiMaggio |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
I'm wondering why Studiopolis wasn't obliged to use any of these other LA-based VAs nor Yuri Lowenthal, Johnny Yong Bosch, Stephanie Sheh, and/or Crispin Freeman? Their inclusion(s) would have made the cast 1000x more epic. And I still question how Sean Schemmel would voice Sonic and how comparable Sonic is to Goku. Sean can't do child/teenage voices very well, and there aren't many similarities between the two characters. Allow me to clarify:
I think I've made my point. |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Like I said earlier:
Quote:
I don't know why, but there are a number of factors like budget (it seems to be cheaper to use anime voice actors based on the large number of non-union productions that feature them), or the actors who auditioned. Or, another possibility is that isnce Sonic is Japanese, maybe Sega wanted voice actors who were experienced in anime. Most cartoon voice actors tend not to do anime usually because they find it constrictive compared to prelay. As for why they didn't use those VAs, again it's likely that they didn't audition, that there aren't any characters they could play, or that they were too busy. Anyway, I have a lot of faith in these voice actors. They have loads of experience, plus Jack Fletcher and Jamie Simone (the casting directors)... have you SEEN their resumes? They've done some of the best dub/casting work around. They know what they're doing. |

Sonic Dream Thread
Knowing the frequent voice changes done to Sonic, this had to be done.
And so I went all Bandai licensing Kurokami and added a nice mix of old and new roles, switching things around and what not. Feel free to have any alternate suggestions. Re: Sonic Dream Thread
FUNIMATION:
Sonic: Eric Vale Tails: Maxey Whitehead Knuckles: Jason Liebrecht Amy: Monica Rial Cream: Trina Nishimura Shadow: J Michael Tatum Rouge: Stephanie Young Big: Chris Sabat Charmy: Brina Palencia Dr. Eggman: R Bruce Elliott ...and these are the characters I'm most familiar with! |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Here is a list of voice actors from FUNIMATION who I think are suitable for voicing the Sonic characters. This is also a list that if there is ever a Sonic anime that could be made by Toei Animation and is dubbed by FUNIMATION, these would be the voice actors who they should choose.
Sonic the Hedgehog- Vic Mignogna Miles "Tails" Prower- Maxey Whitehead, Aaron Dismuke(Teen and Adult) Knuckles the Echidna- Christopher Sabat, Brina Palencia(Young) Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik- Kent Williams Amy Rose- Monica Rial Cream the Rabbit- Cherami Leigh Big the Cat- Christopher Sabat Vector the Crocodile- Chris Rager Espio the Chameleon- J. Michael Tatum Charmy Bee- Brina Palencia Mighty the Armadillo- Justin Cook Ray the Flying Squirrel- Sonny Strait Blaze the Cat- Caitlin Glass Marine the Racoon- Luci Christian Silver the Hedgehog- Greg Ayres Shadow the Hedgehog- Chuck Huber Rouge the Bat- Colleen Clinkenbeard E-123 Omega- Patrick Seitz Jet the Hawk- Todd Haberkorn Wave the Swallow- Jamie Marchi Storm the Albatross- Christopher Sabat Omachao- Brittney Karbowski Cheese the Chao- Brina Palencia Vanilla the Rabbit- Cynthia Cranz Maria Robotnik- Carrie Savage Metal Sonic- Vic Mignogna Dr. Gerald Robotnik- Mike Mcfarland Fang the Sniper- Jason Liebrecht Shade the Echidna- Luci Christian |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Sonic Funimation, for me anyway, would probably go more like this...
Sonic: Jason Liebrecht Tails: Brittney Karbowski Knuckles: Travis Willingham Eggman: R. Bruce Elliott Amy: Cherami Leigh Shadow: Robert McCollum Rouge: Christine Auten Omega: Christopher Bevins Blaze: Caitlin Glass Silver: Todd Haberkorn Cream: Carrie Savage Vector: Charles Campbell Espio: J Michael Tatum Charmy: Tia Ballard Jet: Vic Mignogna Wave: Jamie Marchi Storm: Chris Sabat |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
If Sonic was an anime dubbed by Streamline Pictures in the late '80s/early '90s, this would probably be the English cast.
Sonic: Bob Bergen Tails: Brianne Siddall Amy: Rebecca Forstadt Knuckles: Cam Clarke Eggman: Tom Wyner Rouge: Edie Mirman Shadow: Kirk Thornton Cream: Wendee Lee Vector: Dave Mallow Espio: Michael McConnohie Charmy: Barbara Goodson Blaze: Lara Cody Silver: Steve Kramer Omega: Jeff Winkless Jet: Eddie Frierson Wave: Barbara Goodson Storm: Richard Epcar President: Kirk Thornton |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Not really tying into any of my previous lists, but I can really see Melissa Fahn as a great Amy voice.
|
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Upon watching The Fairly OddParents, I would like to suggest Kath Soucie as Tails in a tone similar to Timmy Turner.
|
Re: Sega Dream Casts
If I'm going with previous VAs....
Sonic :: Roger Craig Smith (using a lighter voice) Tails :: Kate Higgins Knuckles :: Scott Drier Amy :: Lisa Ortiz Shadow :: Jason Griffith Rouge :: Karen Strassman/Lani Minella Cream :: Michelle Ruff Vector :: Marc Biagi/Dan Green/Kirk Thornton Espio :: Any of them really... Charmy :: Colleen O'Shaughnessey Blaze :: Bella Hudson Silver :: Quinton Flynn Eggman :: Jim Cummings/Mike Pollock If I'm going with a new set... Sonic :: Liam O'Brien Tails :: Tara Strong Knuckles :: Nolan North Amy :: Melissa Fahn Shadow :: Jon Curry Rouge :: Laura Bailey Cream :: Hynden Walch Vector :: John DiMaggio Espio :: Dave Wittenberg Charmy :: Julie Ann Taylor Blaze :: Kari Wahlgren Silver :: Sam Riegel Eggman :: Lex Lang |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Liam O'Brien as Sonic? Interested in hearing how he'd handle that. Was there a character he voiced that served as inspiration for that choice?
Some other good picks in there too, particularly Espio, Eggman, Silver, and Rouge. |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Quote:
Jon Curry as Shadow was kind of a shot in the dark. I was sorta looking for something like the Japanese version, but for some reason he came to mind. He's got a unique voice quality that kinda sounds...I dunno...it might fit a ageless character like Shadow. Check out his Winter Soldier, and you'll see what I mean. |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Now, I'm listing my "all-American" voice actors dream cast
Sonic - Mikey Kelley Tails - Brianne Siddall Amy - Grey deLisle/Sandy Fox Eggman - Michael Gough Knuckles - John DiMaggio/Nolan North Shadow - Crispin Freeman Rouge - Vanessa Marshall Omega - James Arnold Taylor Big - Kevin Michael Richardson Froggy - Frank Welker Cream - Mae Whitman Vanilla - Jennifer Hale Vector - Fred Tatasciore Espio - Phil LaMarr Charmy - Candi Milo Blaze - Cree Summer Silver - Greg Cipes Marine - Lauren Tom Jet - Dee Bradley Baker/Jason Marsden Wave - Tara Strong Storm - Bill Fagerbakke Next stop, it's Canada. Sonic - Lee Tockar Tails - Tabitha St. Germain Knuckles - Paul Dobson Eggman - Garry Chalk (with a more gruff voice than in SU) Amy - Andrea Libman Cream - Chantal Strand Vanilla - Kelly Sheridan Big - Scott McNeil Shadow - David V. Kaye Rouge - Venus Terzo Omega - Trevor Devall Jet - Kirby Morrow Wave - Tabitha St. Germain Storm - Mark Gibbon Blaze - Nicole Oliver Silver - Andrew Francis Marine - Cathy Weseluck Vector - Michael Dobson Espio - Michael Adamthwaite Charmy - Anna Cummer |
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Okay, after listening to Stahn and Mugen, I'm surprised. Liam does seem capable enough to do Sonic's voice. It's funny, the guy's got a pretty decent range, but he's usually hired to do that one voice.
|
Re: Sega Dream Casts
Yeah, and that one voice isn't even his normal voice. XD But, that's a pretty good voice, so...eh. And, like I said, that's kind of a good thing if he ever does get Sonic.
|
Re: Sega Dream Casts
You know how Jack Fletcher's currently one of the voice/casting directors for the series? I thought up a cast that consists of some of the mainstays of his works during the late '90s/early 2000s.
Sonic: James Arnold Taylor (seriously, he'd be a PERFECT Sonic voice!) Tails: Debi Derryberry Knuckles: John DeMita Amy: Tara Strong Cream: Sherry Lynn Big: Brad Garrett Shadow: Andrew Philpot Rouge: Cree Summer Omega: Matt McKenzie Espio: David Rasner Charmy: Pamela Adlon Vector: John DiMaggio Eggman: Dwight Schultz Gamma: Alex Fernandez Silver: Matt K. Miller Blaze: Paula Tiso Jet: Tom Kenny Shahra: Hedy Burress Erazor Djinn: Roger Jackson Mephiles: John Rafter Lee |

New Sonic the Hedgehog Series
I think there should be a new Sonic series, but this time in CGI. I would like a lot of the current cast to return , but also let some veteran VAs have a chance as well.
Roger Craig Smith - Sonic the Hedgehog Charlie Adler - Dr. Eggman Tara Strong - Tails, Cream the Rabbit, Charmy Bee, Wave the Swallow, Blaze the Cat Candi Milo - Amy Rose Travis Willingham - Knuckles the Echidna, Storm the Albatross Vanessa Marshall - Rogue the Bat Will Friedle - Shadow the Hedgehog Crispin Freeman - Espio the Chameleon Keith Silverstein - Vector the Crocodile Quinton Flynn - Silver the Hedgehog Steven Blum - Jet the Hawk Bill Fagerbakke - Big the Cat |
Re: New Sonic the Hedgehog Series
Only listing the characters that immediately matter.
*Sonic the Hedgehog - Sam Vincent *Doctor Eggman - Michael Dobson *Miles 'Tails' Prower - Madeleine Peters *Knuckles the Echidna - Brian Drummond *Amy Rose - Shannon Chan Kent |
Re: New Sonic the Hedgehog Series
Cool, Ocean Group. They haven't tackled these characters in a while.
|
Re: New Sonic the Hedgehog Series
How I would do a 90's cartoon
Sonic- Jason Marsden Tails- Johnathan Taylor Thomas Knuckles- Lex Lang Dr. Robotnik- Tim Curry Since this is a cast for a 90's series a lot of characters were omitted since they weren'r created yet. Lex is known for tough guy roles which is why I picked him. No one get started on why I said Robotnik instead of Eggman. |
Who should voice Amy Rose
Cristina Vee would be perfect as Amy Rose. I love her singing and I especially love her voice acting, especially in Magi the Labyrinth of Magic and Skullgirls.
If you have any other suggestions, respond right away. Some other options are Jennifer Hale, Wendee Lee, Kari Wahlgren, etc.anyone but the actresses that already voiced this character, but if you know nobody who can sound like Amy, you could just say one of the three actresses that already voice the character and/or how they could possibly improve. |
Re: Who should voice Amy Rose
I could see Kate Higgins doing a good job, but she already does Amy and Wave. I would like to see Tara Strong voice Tails one day, but I say she would be a great Amy too.
|
Re: Who should voice Amy Rose
I could see maybe Tara Platt, Grey DeLisle, Kari Walghren, Kate Higgins or Laura Bailey doing a good job as Amy.
|
Re: Who should voice Amy Rose
Laura Bailey and Kate Higgins, off the top of my head, would be the best to voice Amy, I think. Especially Kate... wouldn't be the first pink-haired/furred, dynamic fangirl she's played. If she wasn't playing Tails already, she would be best playing Amy.
|
Re: Who should voice Amy Rose
I think either Ashleigh Ball or Tabitha St. Germain could do a good Amy Rose.
