Ben Schwartz to voice Sonic the Hedgehog in the upcoming movie

Here's a few articles:

With that said, what do you guys think? I can't speak for everyone, but I think he'd be pretty interesting.

Okay, what’s with Ben playing “the blue one” recently. First Dewey, then Leo and now Sonic?

Interesting, I was kind of hoping Roger would voice him but I'm glad Ben got the part :) (He's one of my favorite voice actors/voice and so is Roger, will Roger is a voice actor...you know what I mean)

He's the American equivalent of James Beach.

I wonder if Tails will appear?

Japan: They must keep Junichi Kanemaru as Sonic.

Overlaps within my languages:
Brazil: Manolo Rey (Sonic's longtime voice actor) has already dubbed over Ben Schwartz in "This Is Where I Leave You" and "The Walk". I'll put the odds at 90%.

Spain: Angel de Gracia (Sonic's current voice actor) dubbed over Ben Schwartz in "House of Lies". The odds are high here.

If that is just the silhouette, can you imagine if the full picture ends up looking like HNE's video thumbnail? :eye-popping: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/pKjLnXhtN7c/maxresdefault.jpg

Not that I watch his channel or anything.
Also, it's kind of strange how out of my three favourite childhood franchises (Pokemon, Sonic and Yu-Gi-Oh)
the two that are getting live-action cinematic films have CG main protagonists. :eyebrow:

Good to see Sonic Man finally earning his big break! But of all places, why did he buy his shoes at Payless?

Taking a simple blue cartoon hedgehog and making him a more detailed blue cartoon hedgehog?

If that is the official art it's kinda hilarious to look at, and a bit too much on the human side.

I suppose so, but the design just looks so weird and not very appealing.

Ben Schwartz does sound like a good fit for Sonic and Jim Carrey is easily gonna be the most entertaining part of the movie.

also oh hi Garry Chalk and Neal McDonough.

I actually personally like this, yeah Gangster's Paradise is a weird choice for a song but I sort of like what I'm seeing. And I'm still rallying for Ben Schwartz to take over from RCS (who I still think doesn't work as Game Sonic to get off topic).

Interesting… I mean, while I do prefer Sonic's character design by a long shot, I didn't think he looked too horrid; I just found it somewhat okay. Either way, it's cool to know that Sonic will be redesigned.

While I didn’t expect this movie to be that polished anyways, the thing that disappoints me is that it doesn’t even look like a fun kind of bad movie. I’ve seen most of this stuff been done before but better or done in a clever way. Honestly just looks cliched and even kind of lazy in spots.

Right? It looks just like.. "generic thing from another world needs the help of a human played by James Marsden": The Movie. Basically, it's Hop.

Or Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Or The Smurfs..

Or Rocky and Bullwinkle..

Basically it's the most Hollywood-basic thing that could be made with test groups and executives deciding what's "right".

Of course Jim Carrey will be the best thing about the movie, but that’s part of the problem. There’s a bunch of adaptations starring Jim Carrey basically playing himself. Sometimes that works, but it often doesn’t (Count Olaf, anyone?).

I agree. But then again, it looks like that will literally be the only thing good about the movie. So I don't mind.

Rumored redesign. His eyes have been shifted to a more classic feel and he has gloves now.

Aside from the arms being blue and his eyes not being unified, it’s so much better now. A near perfect improvement over the previous design that I believe people will actually be able to tolerate.

Is it me or does the movie actually look really enjoyable now too? Before it looked like the unfunniest trash heap of a movie ever.

Honestly, his arms being bare never made sense to me in any of Sonic's appearances. Why would his muzzle, abdomen and arms be bare and everything else be covered with fur? If you're going to have bare arms, then his legs should be bare, too. Or they're both covered in fur. It's both or neither.

It's a design change that I'm on board with, especially because it in no way changes the core of the character. Even with blue arms, it's still clearly Sonic. Nobody out there is going to look at his blue arms and be like "Who is this character? It looks almost like Sonic the Hedgehog, but those blue arms really confuse me!"

Yeah, it feels like the jokes are a lot funnier this time around. I was smiling with my mouth wide open the entire time I was watching it. To be honest, I'm actually really excited to see it when it comes out now, they really used that amount of time they had between now and the previous trailer wisely.

That's understandable but the point of making his arms bare when he was first created was so that they'll contrast with his body making their position sharply pronounced so his overall pose is more easily readable.
