Yeah, I'm happy that she's coming back, but until the facts about (what you're talking about) come out, I'm hesitant to support Funimation. I want some closure and clarity on that before I decide if I want to support anything they do going forward.

I agree with that. I wouldn't say the pacing for the whole Chimera Ant arc is slow, but once they invade the palace and confront Meruem and the Royal Guards, it gets to the point where there's so much going on that it takes several episodes for real progress to be made with all its different plot threads (and the narration sections, but it's up to debate whether it's a problem or not). When you get to that point, you really need to watch two or three episodes at a time to feel like you're covering some ground.

And watching all those episodes with commercials? Yeah, no thanks. I did that twice on Crunchyroll, and I never want to do it again.

Despite my complaints, I don't think his performance here was bad. Missed the mark a little, but not bad.

Thinking it over a bit more, I think I was a bit off-base in my complaints there. My basic gripes still stand overall, but the substantial thing that bugs me about his performance in the episode was that he sounded way too condescending. Sure, Meruem was arrogant in this fight, but Max made most of his lines sound much more overtly condescending than Uchiyama. I mean, early on in the episode, it made the point that Meruem genuinely had admiration for Netero's skill and strength of will. That's hard to believe with the way Max delivers some of those lines.

Sure, he still believed himself to be undefeatable and sure that Netero would lose, but he was being completely honest with him and showed far more empathy than ever. Max's almost constant patronizing tone makes Meruem sound like he's just gloating half the time, which doesn't match the intent of his character here, IMO.

I think the regal, fancy way of speaking Max uses eliminates some of Meruem's style and makes him sound kind of douchey and generic.

I know I've talked about this before, but I think the way I've worded it in the past has been a little lackluster. I think I made my point the clearest here.

I think that out of all the villains right now, Chris Niosi is giving the most compelling take on his character. Between him and Sarah Williams, I think they're picking up the slack with Youpi and Meruem's somewhat underwhelming performances.

I've seen a few clips of the Netero vs Meruem fight, this moment's definitely my favorite.

I still think John Snyder steals the show. That heavy, gruff voice was amazing in this moment, and his delivery was chilling at times. And I have to say that I think Max's Meruem still disappoints.

What I dislike is that he tries so hard to give Meruem this regal and almost aristocratic sound. I think he's doing it to make Meruem sound "kingly", but I don't think it works. Yeah, Meruem is a king, but I think it misses the point to make him sound like a traditional, human king type of villain. Koki Uchiyama's flat, droning, intense way of speaking made him sound so alien and cold in the way he thinks and speaks. Really made you feel like this guy is so intrinsically different than any human until his character progresses later on.

Yeah, it's cool, but I wasn't missing him as much as I've been missing people like Blum, Laura Bailey, Crispin Freeman, and Travis Willingham. Still, now that I know they're pulling in some veterans for the Baki dub, I'm looking forward to checking it out. I watched the first season of that old Baki anime from the early 2000's years ago, but never finished the second season, so I do have some familiarity with the story already.

So, if he can get Netflix to give him money, and they give him free reign to hire Madhouse, or Bones, or Production I.G., or any other studio with enough artistry and manpower to handle the job, then I'll be happy to give it a shot.

But yes, for me, it is absolutely crucial that Marc Diraison and the gang come back. Extra emphasis on Marc. Guts is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time, and I want to hear Marc finally bring those intense battles and emotional, heartfelt moments to life.

Oh yeah, and more outtakes. Always more outtakes.

Yes, I've heard. The anti-Christian themes are due to the show's writer, Warren Ellis. And the guy you're thinking of is actually only the producer of the show, not the director.

As for how I feel about the idea, I would totally be up for it if he was able to get a new Berserk anime greenlit, produced, and released that has competent direction, good animation, Susumu Hirasawa involved with the OST, and NYAV Post.

As far as the animation is concerned, I hope that they get an actual Japanese studio to animate it instead of whoever they have doing Castlevania. Castlevania looks decent, and the fight scenes are often great-looking. However, there are times when the characters move in a particularly stiff and robotic way, and the facial expressions can be kinda bland. It kinda feels like the stuff that isn't fight scenes is being animated by people tracing model sheets and who aren't very competent animators on their own. It's hard to describe.

Ah. Well, it's not something I'd be interested in, but have fun.
