I gotta say, I think they got Pouf and Meruem a little backwards in this scene.

Niosi overacts so much here that he makes Pouf sound like he's about to have an aneurysm. The Japanese was a little more subtle, but here there are times where he's really chewing the scenery. Max, on the other hand, was pretty underwhelming on Meruem's tirade about how powerful he is and how physical might and violence dominates all, barely raising his voice. Uchiyama sounded enraptured and mad with power.

I think this scene was a pretty big misfire on the dubbers' part. Pouf being so over-the-top and Meruem being so low energy kinda threw off the whole mood of the scene.

Pretty good. I kinda prefer the sound of Pouf's deeper, more elegant voice in the Japanese version, but acting-wise, I think Niosi is mostly matching up.

The bird scene was really good too. Some of Max's delivery sounded too rehearsed and not completely organic, but otherwise he did a good job. Still loving Ryan.

Have you ever seen Welcome to the NHK? I think it had one of ADV's best dubs, and it has two of my favorite performances from Chris Patton and Greg Ayres ever. Lots of humor AND drama.

Wow. That was really good. I'd say right about equal with the original. I'm glad Grant George got this role. Best acting I've ever heard from him.

I watched the clips DforDanger has (as of writing this) from last night's episode. I wasn't totally feeling Max here, to be honest. It was a solid performance, but I think he was overracting on some lines and underacting on others. Uchiyama had such a cold, threatening edge to him in this scene, and his voice had a nice boom to it when he was reprimanding Pouf, and then ordered him to summon Pitou at the end of it. He handled this scene flawlessly, but Max left me feeling slightly underwhelmed.

His didn't have that cold, threatening edge he need for some of it due to his overracting, and then there wasn't enough power and bass in his voice when ordering Pouf.

I wouldn't say the performance was bad at all, just a little disappointing. I'd say Ryan was around as good as the original here.

I'm really looking forward to seeing clips from tonight's episode. The scene where Komugi wagers her life and explains why is one of my favorite moments of the Chimera Ant arc. It's the first time you hear the OST "Understanding", and I love how it suggests that Meruem, for the first time, feels some small amount of empathy for someone so much weaker and less fortunate than him.

Such a wonderful, powerful scene, followed immediately by some really intense sh*t.

I can't wait to hear Max and Ryan's performances, but Ryan's especially so. This is gonna be good.
