07-03-2015StarscreamsfanAwesome. The Janet Waldo/Sam Edwards interview is a lot of fun, both share a lot of fun anecdotes from the old radio days. The interview with Michael Rye is pretty interesting and insightful, but it has it's fun moments. He also mentions two of his cartoon roles: Green Lantern and the Lone Ranger. And let me tell you, when I met him in 2012, he was just as delightful as in this interview.
Incidentally, I managed to rewatch episode 5, and I think I identified Michael Rye as President Kane (which I mentioned yesterday) and one of the ship crew members, Bill Woodson as the ship's commander and Alan Young as Fuller (the only crew member with a name). -
07-03-2015StarscreamsfanSay, I wanted to share these things with you:
Jack Armstrong episode featuring Michael Rye in the title role (http://comicbookplus.com/otrmp3/a8/a...705bf76045.mp3)
An episode of The Shadow directed by Alan Dinehart (https://ia801409.us.archive.org/23/i...ouseRescue.mp3)
1975 interview with Janet Waldo and Sam Edwards (http://www.speakingofradio.com/blog/...A_-_47_min.mp3)
1979 interview with Michael Rye (http://www.speakingofradio.com/blog/...e_-_16_min.mp3)
Michael Rye's BTVA page, so you can hear some of his other roles (http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Michael-Rye/)
Hope you enjoy this stuff -
07-03-2015StarscreamsfanYeah, Janet does kid voices, but that kid voice doesn't sound like Janet at all.
Yeah, it's pretty easy to spot them. I've also been able to spot Alan Dinehart in some roles (like the Spectra Commander of episode 2).
I have never been able to see the G-Force dub in it's entirety, but there are some actors in it which I like (Barbara Goodson and Gregg Berger). And yes, it's really cool to hear performers talking to themselves -
07-03-2015HienFanSaw your post on ReCyborg
Whoa whoa whoa Jason Griffith is Joe? My dream of Jason and Josh Seth in the same compare has come true! -
07-02-2015StarscreamsfanOh, yeah. I almost forgot. In episode 4, I also noticed that Casey Kasem played a Spectra Trooper using his computer voice (which he used for the SuperFriends computer and Teletraan-I).
Hoo-boi, the more we keep investigating, the plot thickens even more. -
07-02-2015StarscreamsfanI'm not sure about Debbie, but Buddy is definetly not Janet.
Oh, yeah. I think I'll also have to go through those episodes featuring the female Spectra spies on the weekend in order to refresh my mind. Really interesting how they made characters out of Katse's female form.
Yeah, Jolliffe is very easy to identify thanks to that youthful voice he has. -
07-02-2015StarscreamsfanYeah, and I recently rewatched episode 4 and part of episode 5, and I think Rye also plays Dr. Harlan and President Kane. Yeah, it's really tricky to identify the actors, especially with the lack of credit.
There is a little boy in episode 3, which I think is played by Wendy Young, and I suspect that Dr. Harlan's daughter in episode 4 is Takayo Fischer. -
07-02-2015StarscreamsfanHere's episode 3:

Dr. Sweet starts talking at 6:08.
And here's the reason why I think Mike Rye is Sweet:

Watch the video at 22:20 and you may hear Dr. Sweet's voice coming out of Rye's Jasper Bryn. -
07-01-2015StarscreamsfanSay, I recently rewatched episode 3 of Battle of the Planets, and I think that Dr. Sweet is played by radio veteran Michael Rye (radio's Jack Armstrong). Being a big old time radio fan, I'm pretty familiar with Rye's work (I even met the man a few months before his passing).
Dr. Sweet sounds pretty similar to a character Rye played in the 1982 Hulk cartoon. At first, I thought my ears were playing tricks on me, but then I remembered who the voice director for this show was. In fact Rye had worked for Alan Dinehart before (both in radio and on the Flintstones cartoon), and Dinehart would use him once again in 1981 to play Magneto in Spider-Friends. So, I think we have another uncredited actor in this show. -
06-22-2015StarscreamsfanOh, I recently posted a 1975 interview with Janet Waldo and Sam Edwards:
http://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/...ad.php?t=15477
As you may know, Janet was Princess in the Battle of the Planets dub. This is a pretty entertaining interview in which Janet and Edwards talk about the old radio days, and they also share some funny experiences and anecdotes.
