Regardless of the 5DS dub's faults. Greg Abbey made for a great Yusei!

The coolest protagonist we've had since Atem. A mature 18 year old was a nice change of pace after Jaden, and I loved how quiet and thoughtful he was.

A lot of this got watered down in the dub unfortunately (can't have a character who rarely speaks or punches people for the kids!), but I did think Greg Abbey had a nice voice for him. I always liked his Tristian voice, so it made me happy to see him finally get the chance to voice a protagonist.

@1dbad Funny thing is. I agree but IMO he still felt fairly quiet compared to the other protagonists in the Yugioh dubs regardless XD (which is actually a little funny/sad)

But yeah I love Greg Abbey as Yusei too. The New York twang he has in his voice worked really well for him I'd say! He and Yuya Miyashita fit the character really well IMO.

@HylianBelmont It's a much more minor difference in the dub though. XD (they added A LOT of dialogue when Yusei wasn't originally talking or thinking anything)

Yeah, his voice really works for Yusei, IMO. He did a great job in the lead role as well.

And have you ever seen that promotional video where they originally had Greg Abbey voicing Yugi/Yami? That makes him voicing Yusei even cooler, IMO. Like, he finally got to voice a protagonist after missing out the first time around, haha.

@1dbad Wasn't trying to imply it was still a BIG difference mind you, but eh. I still figured it was worth mentioning haha,

I do remember seeing it I believe! I think it would have been interesting to see how he would've actually played Yugi and Atem, but ultimately I'm happy he got to eventually voice Yusei instead, as he's pretty great in the part really.

@HylianBelmont Definitely! haha

I am too. I think it ultimately worked out for the best, and he still got a notable part as Tristian. It's just interesting to think about how things almost worked out, haha.

Greg Abbey as Yusei surprisingly worked very well, despite my gripes with the 5D's dub: at first, he sounded too much like his Tristan from Duel Monsters, but his performance eventually evolves into a voice similar to Yuya Miyashita's take in the Japanese Version as seasons pass.

Once you get past the voice sounding alike to Tristan: Gregg Abby was perfect in this role! I can think of many that could do a better job. Perhaps Michael Daingefield could.

If Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's was re-license by a different company, the right choice to voice Yusei Fudo's character is Johnny Yong Bosch.

@dcmarvelanime Greg did do a pretty good job though.

@dcmarvelanime He would work, though I honestly wouldn't even mind Greg Abbey in the role if he just had a better script/voice direction to work from.

Funnily enough Johnny Yong Bosch was cast as a Yugioh lead for Zexal, in Bang Zoom's dub for the series. Sadly it got canceled so there's nothing more than a couple of clips from it.

@1dbad Where can i find those clips of the Bang Zoom Dub? I try looking on Youtube but couldn't find it.

TBH, Johnny would make a better fit from Yuma than Eli.

@MHUltimate2013DW Agreed! Johnny sounds a lot like his Japanese voice.
