It's a bit saddening to see that he might lose some roles soon. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's getting more popular but the fact that we'll probably be seeing him lose some characters soon kind of stings.

For example I really don't want him to get replaced as Garon, Knuckles, Lon'qu or Guile.

Travis hasn't had as many new dub roles in the past while (I think Fates was actually the only one in the past 3 years that wasn't a reprisal...) but at the same time he has been able to come back to roles more often than not from what I can tell. He hasn't shown any signs of not being Knuckles anymore, especially since he committed to the Boom series. I think the main thing that would potentially hold him back would be big mocap roles which he could maybe have in the pipeline.

Happy Birthday Travis Willingham!!!

His performances as Roy Mustang in both FMA series are just fantastic. He gives a very deep, meaningful performance full of heart and power.

My other favorite performance of his is Harvey Dent/Two-Face, a very heart-filled, frightening performance for a man who becomes the very monster he wanted to rid his city of.

He's also fantastic as Mastermind, Heretic, Grodd, Onslaught, Sideswipe, Slug, Cell, Sabretooth, Star-Lord, & Jul 'Mdama.

Anyways, here's to more great roles!!!

And seriously, Roy is the most quotable character.

"You can call me Roy Mustang. Or just Lieutenant Colonel. Heck, you can call me the Flame Alchemist. Whatever you do, remember the pain."

"Maes Hughes - Killed in Action, and promoted two ranks for it. Brigadier General Hughes. You're the guy who was going to work below me and push me to the top. Then you get yourself killed and pass me in the ranks. I don't know what's more absurd - you or the State...It's going to rain today."

"That day all female officers will be required to wear tiny miniskirts!"

Happy birthday to Travis Willingham. Behind the microphone in roles such as Superman in Lego Dimensions, the verbal minimalist Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka from Ouran High School Host Club and King Gaius from Tales of Xillia. On the mo-cap set in roles such as Dan Marshall from Binary Domain and Carl Stoddard from Battlefield Hardline. On camera too, like dressed in drag for Nip/Tuck or getting punched on the face by Robert Duvall in Second hand Lions. Lastly, rolling dice as Grog Strongjaw and the assassin, ingeniously named Tarvis from Critical Role.

Happy Birthday Travis Willingham!

My top 10 favourite roles of his are:

1.) Roy Mustang (Fullmetal Alchemist)
2.) Ginko (Mushi-Shi)
3.) Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka (Ouran High School Host Club)
4.) Antonio Lopez/Rock Bison (Tiger & Bunny)
5.) Slug (Transformers: Fall of Cybertron)
6.) Relius Clover (Blazblue)
7.) Christof Sievernich (Monster)
8.) Guile (Street Fighter)
9.) Onslaught (Transformers: Fall of Cybertron)
10.) Knuckles (Sonic the Hedgehog)

I also really liked his performance as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the Telltale Batman game, definitely one of his most rare and powerful performance as of late.

Also good to see him reprising as Katakura Kojuro in the recent Sengoku Basara anime dub, as well as his Fire Emblem roles.

I also like his Motormaster in Transformers: Robots In Disguise, even if it's maybe a bit too mastermindy for the brutal and savage "King of the Road".

I have to agree with Voice_Box to be honest. Some casting directors really don't take advantage of what he can really do. Like his work as Ace, and his work in Awakening and Fates shows just how much range the guy really has IMO.

@HylianBelmont Harvey Dent (Batman: Telltale) & Gaslowe (Heroes of the Storm) also showcase his range quite nicely.

Hearing him in the Marineford Arc of One Piece has reinforced my opinion of how absurdly talented of an actor Travis is. He completely blows away even Toshio Furukawa in conveying Ace's regret and lifelong struggle with his identity. It's such a shame that most of his roles in LA productions have mostly been "big, endearing dumb guy" and "evil is deep" typecasts. The man is capable of SO MUCH MORE, if only casting directors took the opportunity to experiment a bit. But anyhow, I just can't stress enough how fantastic Travis is as Ace.
said at 3:41 AM on Sat Dec 24 2016
@Voice_Box In a way you're saying that anime is better. Which I agree with. And yes, he was great as Ace. It could be the last anime role we hear him in for a long while.
said at 10:10 PM on Sun Jan 1 2017
@DeathGod46 Travis has been cast in anime-related J-game dubs as "evil is deep" guys as well. Like Garon in FEF. I do vaguely see your correlation though.
said at 5:54 PM on Wed Apr 5 2017
@Voice_Box, @DeathGod & @huzaifa_ahmed I see the conection as well. But Harvey Dent (Batman: Telltale), although sticking closely to said typecasts, voice-wise, does have a lot of emotional range that I never thought he could do. & Gaslowe (Horoes of the Storm) doesn't have a hint of barrel-chested baritone in sight.

@JRPictures Nah, it was more the general list of faves. Full of domestic animation VA's. Most of this site seems to be either fans of Western stuff or dubs. Most of the fans of anime here seem to like dubs to a decent extent.

@huzaifa_ahmed So? I don't go around grilling everyone on their tastes in voice actors and the particular types of works they perform in. Seems pretty unnecessary and pedantic to me.

Happy birthday Travis! My favorite role is definitely Roy Mustang for obvious reasons, but he's also amazing as Knuckles, Guile, Lon'qu, Brady, and Thor as a few examples.

He's also delivered some of my favorite lines in any game or anime or that type of stuff, such as Lon'qu's "How well will you die?" and Mustang's dogs and miniskirts lines, or Brady's "So long, trash!". So many incredible lines from multiple characters with such amazing delivery from Travis. Truly one of the most talented people we have in this industry.

It's also nice that he's married to Laura Bailey, who has also been consistently amazing in her own roles as well. May his marriage to Laura live on for a long time.

Happy Birthday Travis Willingham!

My favourite role of his is Lon'qu in Awakening. He did well at making him sound intimidating and delivered some fantastic critical quotes like "How well will you die?" I also liked him as Brady although I rarely use that character.

Another great one is King Garon. I mean he just sounded so threatening and powerful as him! His performance in the cutscene in chapter 27 of Conquest gives me chills every time I hear it. And I think he gave Hans a pretty good "love to hate" voice. Which is pretty fitting for a psychopath who murders people just to get a higher position in the Nohrian army. Haven't really heard much of his Anankos yet but from the little I've heard he sounds great there as well.

I also liked him as Knuckles, Ace, Cell, Philemon, Death and Guile!

Happy Birthday, Travis Willingham! I always felt as if he was a great casting choice for Guile in Street Fighter IV; hell, his performance is better than Hiroki Yasumoto's, especially if SFV is anything to go by. What's amusing about all this is that Laura Bailey is Chun-Li's English VA and the two of them are married irl, so you could say Willingham went home to become a family man. A couple of my other favorite roles from this guy include Roy Mustang, Knuckles the Echidna, Thor, Kokuto, Free, Portgas D. Ace, and King Roland II. On a side note, Willingham's take on Jedah Dohma was actually pretty decent. He wouldn't really be my ideal pick for the character and doesn't quite possess the gravitas that Isshin Chiba has, but he did alright with the material he got.

There are alot of roles that I like from Travis. If I had to pick a few that stick out, It would have to be Ace from One Piece, Roy Mustang, Knuckles & Thor. He is also a great voice match for Dameon Clarke as well.

Just like his wife, he's not in much anime anymore but he's porven to be awesome in roles that aren't exclusively anime.

@Autovolt They might get back Travis for the home video release tho and rest of the undubbed d gray man series, but when it comes to broadcast dubs and in terms of being ready to record ones lines I guess I kinda saw this coming, just wish it wasnt going to come to fruition lol. Am I the only one who thinks his Roy Mustang sounded a LOT different in Brotherhood compared to the original anime?
said at 8:44 AM on Tue Jul 5 2016

That's cause he was still kinda new to voice acting during the original anime. In Brotherhood he was a lot more confident in his performance and understood the character better.
said at 4:54 PM on Wed Sep 7 2016
@sennen3 "kinda new"

That was his first credit. Brotherhood was post-LA move, he'd become a pretty seasoned actor by then & we're lucky he was even *IN* FMAB.
said at 2:51 PM on Thu Dec 8 2016

Not really. FMAB was 2010. Travis was no where near as prominent in games back then as he is now. He had years of acting experience at Funimation at the time but was only just getting his name out in LA. Dude was still fairly new in the LA side of things and back when FMAB was dubbed, he had relocated to LA relatively recently. He wasn't as well established in LA back then as he is now at all, he was still a relative newcomer in the LA fields and was merely in the process of getting his name out there. We weren't really lucky to have in in FMAB, he wasn't really that prominent back then and was still just an up-and-coming guy in the LA fields, so there wasn't much of a chance of not having him back when FMAB was dubbed, that was way before Travis became prominent in LA video game work.

Happy Birthday Travis Willingham!

Roy Mustang is without a doubt his best role to date. I truly believe he was born to voice Roy. He nails the ambitious colonel in every way from his very raw and emotional performances from, Its a terrible day for rain to when Roy loses control of himself and just tries to make Envy suffer and then there is his funny and gloriously hammy moments, I still get a good laugh out of I LOVE DOGS and TINY MINISKIRTS! I still find it incredible that this was his first major voice role, its one of the finest first roles I have seen a VA ever do thus far.

I also loved his other performances too including Ginko, Free, Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka, Antonio Lopez/Rock Bison, Christof Sievernich, Andreas Darlton, Relius Clover, Cell, Guile, Sideswipe, Slug, Onslaught, Knuckles, Gorilla Grodd, Lego Superman, Thor, Executioner, Mastermind and Hulk in The Super Hero Squad Show.
said at 3:19 AM on Wed Aug 3 2016
I also enjoyed his performances as Heretic, Yellowjacket and Mitsunari Yanagisawa.

It is a bit of a shame that he is nearly all but done with anime but it's understandable at the same time. Though he was in Fire Emblem: Fates in earlier this year, technically not an anime but still a English dub of a Japanese property. Still for the most part it was a good run while it lasted.

Happy Birthday Travis Willingham!

Fun fact: He appeared onscreen in Secondhand Lions as a thug that gets beat up by Robert Duvall's character Hub. Due to his size(6'4), he was mistaken for a stuntman by the director, so Duvall was actually hitting him during the fight scene. When Duvall realized he was a regular actor, he apologized profusely and gave him some money to make up for it.

An effectively brilliant actor when properly directed its unfortunate that he is doing less anime work currently and more free lance animation & video game work at the moment. I very little interest in free lance animation & video games but at least he still doing reoccurring work in Naruto, Bleach,Tiger & Bunny and on occasion One Piece. I would like to see him be more active in the field of voice over for anime when possible considering he is such a formidable actor hopefully the possibility of this comes into fruition in the near future.

@MilanTheVillain01 I recommend looking through Dynasty Warriors 7 on Youtube. Travis voices both Xu Huang and Zhou Tai.

No mention of Gaius from Tales of Xilla or Free from Soul Eater?!? o.0 Those are two of Travis's best roles, next to Roy Mustang of course. ;D

Happy Birthday Travis! One of the greatest male leads in the English anime dub industry, I've really loved his work, and no matter who he voices, one can always tell it's him. Regardless, it's great that he dabbled in both American animation and video games, and I hope he gets to do more of those.

Did you know that in Sonic Free Riders, Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations that when Travis voices Knuckles he sounds just like Dan Green? Or are Dan Green and Travis Willingham sound similar?

@YamiFangirlQueen Their voices are just naturally similar. There are some other "VA soundalikes" out there too (for example, Micah Solusod and Johnny Yong Bosch).
