Happy Birthday and RIP Michael Rye!

Definitely one of the most underrated and underappreciated voice actors of all time.

While I'm not as familiar with him like Starscreamsfan is, I really have grown to like and appreciate Rye's work over the years, my favourite roles of his being Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Dr. Farley Stillwell.

His Hal is really great and holds up remarkably well especially for the Superfriends era of DC Cartoons and it's pretty awesome he stuck with the role from the beginning till the end of that era.

I also enjoyed his performances as Apache Chief, Solovar, Joe Chill, Magneto and Mysterio.

It's a shame he didn't appear in as much in the later years of his life, especially not being a part of The Transformers, G.I. Joe and countless other 80's and 90's cartoons. If he had been a part of those franchises, he'd be much better remembered.

That said it's pretty awesome that Starscreamsfan himself got the rare and lucky opportunity of meeting him before his passing.

If he were with us today, he would've been 100!

Overall a great underrated talent that I hope will never be forgotten.

Happy Birthday and RIP Michael Rye

My Top 5 Favourite Voice Roles from Him are:

5. Solovar (Challenge of the SuperFriends)
4. Duke Igthorn (Disney's Adventures of The Gummi Bears)
3. The Lone Ranger ( Lone Ranger)
2. Mysterio ( Spider-Man 1981)
1. Doctor Farley Stillwell (Spider-Man 1994)

It's a Shame that he Never Voiced the Alan Scott Green Lantern since he would have been a Fantastic Fit in the Role.

Happy birthday and R.I.P. Michael Rye.

I really liked his performance as Farley Stillwell in Spider-Man TAS.

He was also good as Apache Chief, Hal Jordan and Solovar. Those performances hold up really well.

Much like Stanley Ralph Ross, it's kind of sad that he didn't have any roles in G.I. Joe and Transformers, since he had quite the vocal range.

Happy Birthday and R.I.P. Michael Rye.

Wasn't exposed to too much of his work as a kid unfortunately aside from The Flintstones and The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, but based on everything Starscreamsfan has sent me, he really had a lot of range. Too bad he retired when he did, he probably could've done a lot more.

Happy birthday and RIP Michael Rye!!!

It was an honor to meet him back in early 2012. One of the best experiences of my life.

I absolutely loved him as Jack Armstrong and Green Lantern.

For Jack Armstrong, Mike did a pretty convincing teenager voice. He sounded adventurous, energetic and brave.

For Green Lantern, he basically used his natural voice, but he gave it a little bit more of a confident and tough attitude, but he also managed to sound pretty friendly and warm.

I also enjoyed him as the Lone Ranger, Apache Chief, Solovar, Magneto, Supreme Hydra, Joe Chill, Demondo, Duke Igthorn, Mysterio and Dr. Farley Stillwell.

He was also a great narrator in a lot of stuff (from the Mystery House radio show to the Space Ace video game).

A great performer from the good ol' days who always gave it his all to his craft.

Forgot to mention this, but I recently saw him in Two Lost Worlds as Captain Hackett. He truly was a pretty good villain and he had quite an authoritative presence.

@Ross123 He was a performer that started his career in my favorite type of voiceover media... Yep, you guessed it, radio.

He then made some appearances in television shows, cartoons and video games. So as you can see, this man has done everything, from old time radio shows to video games.

He retired in 1998.

@Starscreamsfan Thanks. It's always interesting to learn things about someone especially when they are quite famous.

@Ross123 You're quite welcome. Rye had one of the longest careers ever and he was one of the few people that didn't struggle to find work until his retirement (making the transition from radio to live-action and animated TV shows to modern video games).

I met Rye shortly before he died, and he was delightful. He still had that deep, booming voice of the old days and I had a great time talking to him and his wife, who was always by his side. Such a lovely couple. His wife even told me that he dreamed to go to a convention just to meet the fans of the shows he worked on, but it could have been too exhausting for him because of his age. It was still an awesome experience.

@Starscreamsfan Well he was a very very lucky guy if he still got work before retirement.

And wow, you met him. I must say I'm quite impressed but just slightly a bit jealous if I'm being honest.

Can ask where did you meet him & his wife since he sadly wasn't able to be at any conventions?

@Ross123 I was on vacation in LA, and one day, this elderly man was buying breakfast and the newspaper. I was eating my breakfast and he came in and asked me a question that I don't remember. I answered his question and in the moment I heard his voice, I immediately recognized it. It was Mike Rye. He was kind enough to invite me to his home the next day (his 94th birthday). He was very kind to me and he was also quite intelligent. He knew a lot of stuff and he loved to read books and newspapers. It was one of the best vacations I ever had, he had a lot of stories to tell about his career.

I think he would have still been quite active if he hadn't retired.

@Starscreamsfan Wow that's a great story. Again, thank you for sharing it.

Michael sounds like such a nice guy. It seems like it would have been an honour to have met him. You were very lucky.

You really think he'd still be working if he wasn't huh? Well it's such ashame that he's not with us anymore.

@Ross123 You're welcome.

And yeah, I do think he would have kept working if he hadn't retired, because he actually loved his work, and when we spoke about his career, he always seemed to look at it with a lot of warmth and satisfaction.
