1.) Motoko Kusanagi/The Major (Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex)
2.) Cornelia li Britannia (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion)
3.) Queen Metalia (Sailor Moon)
4.) Julia (Cowboy Bebop)

A little sad she's not directing anime anymore but it's pretty nice she's becoming a favourite of Disney's to direct their cartoons now, alongside fellow VA and now director Sam Riegel.

She's really come a long way since directing Cowboy Bebop.

Mary Elizabeth McGlynn has a really smooth, sexy, and seductive voice. It just has such a strong gravitating air to it that really catches your attention. She is one of those actors that really excels at playing strong or badass characters that have a cool air to them. This really shows in her work as Motoko in Ghost in the Shell, with that tough air to the voice. I enjoy her voice in Starcraft II and Xenoblade Chronicles X among other works as well.

I also particularly enjoyed her Naoto in Persona 4's anime since she got down the cool, calm, calculating personality of the character effectively and her voice was very convincingly androgynous, and in general just brought the mature bravado and sophisticated mannerisms of Naoto in the voice very well, as great as the OG game VA was in the role, Mary herself was really wonderful as Naoto. The delivery of more emotional lines was a bit wonky but it was a solid performance overall. Her Kashiwagi in the game (and anime) was also really well performed, I mean as much as I detest Kashiwagi's character, Mary's voice and delivery were just perfect there.

She's also a very talented voice director and has done great work on several shows doing great voice direction. While she's not directing Naruto anymore, she did a great job during her run, so I can definitely say however that she's had a really great run.

She's certainly a very talented person in the industry and has a very unique, amazing voice with a smooth, seductive, and sexy sound and a strong gravitas to it. I look forward to hearing more of her in the years to come.

@Shaun Ince She's working on Tangle. Glad she's working for disney and moving on to better things, but I highly doubt it'll be a fraction of what Naruto was.

Happy Birthday Mary Elizabeth McGlynn!!

I always admire her voice over work on whichever project she is working in be it anime, original animation and video games.

In addition, she also does an incredible job with her voice direction in the Cowboy Bebop and the "Naruto" dubs.

I wish her the best of luck with her career on getting new roles as a voice director or voice actress.

@DisneyAnimefan1995 Sad news, but according to her interview at Momocon 2016, she is no longer directing the dubs of Naruto.

This likely has to do with her directing season 2 of Penn-Zero (which was introduced to her by Sam Riegel, who *himself* has mostly quit dubbing), as well as a new Tangled & other Disney series IIRC.

* Kristi Reed had this issue with Durarara X2 as well, & she has openly stated in interviews that she is no longer working with anime, despite Bang Zoom introducing her *in the first place*.

I can imagine that whoever takes up the mantle (maybe Suzanne Goldfish or Jamie Simone?) will do well with the job, but I can't help but wonder what it means for her dub-related work in general. I like that she's in Star Wars, I'll get to that at some point, & while it can get kinda irritating that Travis, Laura, Mary, Matt, Taliesin, Liam, & Sam's Twitter accounts are almost nothing *but* Critical Role & Western productions...I like that show & several of those productions as well.

* However, it can be frustrating when someone you've watched & heard for years & years..eventually decides to move on. You want every VA to succeed, yet at the same time, it's hard to root for somebody leaving the very reason you got to know them in the first place.

Yeah, it's just a VA that I "know" through the Internet, but Naruto & Digimon have affected my childhood so deeply it's a little teary-eyed tbh. (Plus she still managed to get Laura Bailey & even Debi Derryberry for PreCure) least we have God Eater & Sailor Moon...while those last.

@huzaifa_ahmed @huzaifa_ahmed I have a feeling that Jamie Simone, the voice director of the 1st Naruto series (alongside Mary), Tiger & Bunny, and some of the Marvel cartoons at Studiopolis to name a few, is the one that took over the rest of the Shippuden dub, according to what Peter Lurie (the voice of Hashirama) posted on his website. Though then again, Jamie does have to balance his directing schedule since besides Shippuden, he also has Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2015 series) and several other Pre-lay animated shows done at Studiopolis.

As for Suzanne Goldish (who voice directs the majority of the anime at Studiopolis besides Mary and Jamie) she is currently doing the re-dub of the "original" Sailor Moon along with SM Crystal, as well as the upcoming dubs of "K: Missing Kings" and hopefully "Return of Kings".

I'm a little saddened she's not voice directing Naruto, but I respect her wishes as an actress and voice director and looking forward to the upcoming Tangled show and her future endeavors.

@huzaifa_ahmed I agree with you 100%. I'm glad all these voice actors are moving on to better paying roles, but it is sad not hearing them anymore. Yes, I understand that most anime don't pay that well. And it's totally understandable to move on to higher paying jobs. But I don't watch pre lay shows, nor do I plan on to.

Happy 50th Mary, you are always the best voice for Motokol; and your voice over direction is perhaps the best I heard in anime English anime dub.

As always, it's also good to hear you branching out in more Western Animation, starting off with Abigal Green, then with Connie's Mother; and of course Commander Price in Star Wars Rebels.

I still look forward to whatever new roles you get in the future in any medium, be it as an actress or director.

I think my favourite role of hers is Naoto Shirogane from the Persona 4 Anime! She nailed the young detective's voice and personality down to a T!

I also like her performances as Jinana and Jenna Angel from Digital Devil Saga!

Happy Birthday, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn! I could go on about how alluring her voice is, but then I'd probably be repeating myself ad infinitum here. My favorite McGlynn roles thus far consist of Rosso the Crimson, Nevan, Motoko Kusanagi, Shakkoumon, Nina Williams, Naoto Shirogane, Kurenai Yuhi, Terry McScotty, and Caroline. She also does voice direction really well, and I feel she has done a likable job on Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, Cowboy Bebop, Tenkai Knights, Firebreather, Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, Digimon Tamers, and Resonance of Fate.

@Troodon2 i dunno the first thing about Star Wars, but wow...holy ****. I was not expecting that. I will probably watch the movies & cartoons just to hear that.

On the other hand...*you* (& like everybody who hasn't) should watch her in GitS: SAC. Among the most mature (in the true sense of the word) animated things ever made, & the 1995 movie (which the dub isn't great for) is basically the most beautiful, jaw dropping animation ever.

& oh, Mary, Richard Epcar, & Crispin Freeman carry the crap out of the dub.

Happy Birthday Mary Elizabeth McGlynn!

She's got one of the most badass, deep and sexy sounding voices I've ever heard. Her all time best role has to be Major Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell, she fits this no-nonsense chick to a freakin' tee. It's easily one of the most perfect dub casting fits I've ever seen, and is just as great as Atsuko Tanaka is in the role, no doubt she's her English counterpart for so many reasons.

I also love her performances as Cornelia li Britannia, Queen Metalia, Julia, Dr. Maheswaran, Mischa, Maria Hill, Abigail Brand, Briggs Doctor and Twinkle Maria Murdock.

It's pretty awesome that she's starting to work for FUNimation. I await all future roles she'll get there.
said at 6:12 PM on Fri Oct 16 2015

I hope she gets a role in both One Piece and Fairy Tail pretty soon. If so, that would complete her Grand Slam of the Anime Big 4. :-)

Again considering the nature of the Smile Precure/Glitter Force dub, I thought Mary did a good job with the series in terms of both voice direction and acting.

Her performance as Majorina is an excellent example of her range, being able to do a really good old witchy sounding voice, If I hadn't know it was here, I'd never have guessed at all. Plus she also did a pretty nice seductive southern belle accent for her younger form which was rather nice.

She did well with the other incidental roles she did for the dub.

Happy Birthday Mary Elizabeth McGlynn!
