As overall bad, even a bit stupid as Pokemon: The First Movie (Mewtwo Strikes Back) was, Jay Geode as Mewtwo was consistently amazing! Seriously, why isn't he doing more voice work? Let alone not coming back as Mewtwo from time to time?

@Aussieroth

IIRC he was mostly a stage actor in New York and now he lives in Florida. I think he's an artist.

According to Wikipedia and IMDb, today's his actual birthday. Not 100% sure if that's true since those are the same sites that said he was dead, but Jay himself seems to have updated his bio on IMDb.

So if it is true...

Happy birthday, Jay Goede! I pretty much said it all last time, but to reiterate, I love your work as Mewtwo and Dr. Fuji. You're a really talented guy with tons of range and not only are you my biggest voice acting inspiration, but I love your art and music as well. Keep up the fantastic work!

"The Human sacrificed himself, to save the Pokemon. I pitted them against each other, but not until they set aside their differences did I see the true power they all share Deep Inside. I see now that the circumstances of one's birth are irrelevant; It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are."

Pretty much a month late, but I hope you had a good birthday, Jay Goede.

Not only are you the best Mewtwo, it's also pretty much my favourite performance of all time, you put your all into your acting and it really showed. Not only that, your site has showcased some fantastic, highly detailed art and if your stage plays are anything to go by you're a wonderful singer as well. This guy puts so much effort into everything he does and it shows, he has so much talent in pretty much all forms of art. Dunno how he does it.

Happy Birthday, Jay Goede!

It's no secret I'm not a big fan of the first Movie's English dub, but Goede's performance alone helped make it redeemable due to his extremely professional voice over work as Mewtwo, really encapsulated the character's angst and determination to find his own purpose in life as well as being confused about being superior/inferior to others.

He was also great as Dr. Fuji, really bringing a great wisdom and intelligence to the part.

Really is a pity he didn't try to do more voice over work, he definitely had the acting chops for it and (as usual, when it comes to Pokemon) I agree with the majority of voters on the site that his Mewtwo performance was the best English dub one to date.

While he was an excellent Mewtwo, I was honestly also impressed by his performance as Dr. Fuji- he had more range than people give him credit for: for just two roles, I think Goede should be acting more often, he had a real aptitude for it.

It's been said so much here on this page but I'll say it once more I'm really glad you were alive this whole time.

Mewtwo's voice is nothing short of legendary, perhaps maybe too great for the movie and the fact he was also Dr. Fuji is very impressive.

We really need Jay to voice in more shows or movies, it's a voice too good to only be used once.

@UK-Otaku He didn't fake anything. Someone other than him added that death report to Wikipedia and it stuck.
Metabad

@UK-Otaku He didn't fake his own death, that was just a rumor that started on IMDb, went straight to Wikipedia, and spread from there.

From what I gather he wasn't so much out of touch in the field of acting, he was just primarily a stage actor and pretty much stuck with that.

As chance would have it, I managed to find an upload of the French film Sam suffit. This is the actor Philip Bartlett who played Peter in that film.

http://i1335.photobucket.com/albums/w680/rosebr13/philipbartlett_zpse48f7199.jpg

It should be noted that a NY Times review describes Bartlett's character as being American. What's more, I found throughout the film that he would sometimes say something in English. However, he sounds like your typical young male actor.

Still fairly interesting results, I must say.

@rosebr10 I've been curious about that for a while, I do recall seeing a scene on Youtube of that movie, although I wasn't sure if the footage I saw had "Philip Bartlett" in it or not. According to the screenshot you took though, it did. Although I do remember it not sounding a lot like the guy who voiced Mewtwo, so I was kind of skeptical as to whether it was him or not. I also didn't know his character was American or that he spoke English in the movie, so that's pretty interesting to know.
