(How she originally got interested in theatre and acting)
"When you have no particular set of skills, there are only a few things you can do. I like to talk and have people listen, so acting was a no-brainer. You know, I really hate this question. So many people have these great "moments" that called them to acting like God calls preachers to the church. God didn't call me to acting. I just have always thought it was fun. That's my great lame story. I think it's fun. How boring is that?! "

Happy Birthday Jamie Marchi!

My top 10 favourite roles of hers are:

1.) Rias Gremory (High School DXD)
2.) Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson (Soul Eater)
3.) Cana Alberona (Fairy Tail)
4.) Hex (Jormungand)
5.) Shoko Inari (Princess Jellyfish)
6.) Uzume (Sekirei)
7.) Mikako Satsukitane (Heaven's Lost Property)
8.) Mitsuko Kongo (A Certain Scientific Railgun)
9.) Rebecca Catalina (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood)
10.) Juri (Yu Yu Hakusho)

It was interesting and amusing hearing her as Idasa's and Ikose's Mother in Dragon Ball Z Kai, her playing this trailer trash mama was a massive playing against type role of hers, but one that surprisingly fits her well.

I haven't heard the Space Patrol Luluco dub yet, but casting Jamie as Midori...hmm. Jamie does not sound anything close to Mayumi Shintani's iconic nasally voice but Jamie is perfect at playing smug anime girls so....this could work. I just gotta wait and see.

It's kinda hard for me to pick one favorite role of hers, because I love most of them. However, in no particular order, I'd have to say I love her Rias Gremory, Mikako Satsukitane, Shirley Yaeger, Liz Thompson, and Quetzalcoatl (aka Lucoa) the most. That is in no particular order.

Beyond my favorite Jamie roles that were mentioned last year, she did a great job as Ayame Kajou/Blue Snow. I wasn't sold on her laugh in comparison to Shizuka Ishigami's, sure, but I had no problems with the take otherwise. Her performances as Seisa Mikagura and Nagisa Ujibe were A-OK also. Really dying to hear the woman's rendition of Midori Save-the-World when the SPL dub officially drops.

Once again, HBD Jamie Marchi aka Jamie Perez!

Am I the only one that thinks that Jamie Marchi would be perfect for a voice role in Fire Emblem Heroes?
said at 5:06 PM on Mon Aug 21 2017

Be neat if it happened but I won't bet on it. If she hasn't worked on an LA VG dub by now it probably won't happen anytime soon. Don't know why; there's only rumors which may or may not be true. Maybe she's just not very ambitious and likes being in a small pond. Maybe LA studios just dislike her for some personal reason (her popularity? diva personality?) or maybe she got black-listed because in the past some fans requested those studios to consider hiring her. Some people in positions of power are extremely petty and don't like being told how to do their jobs. Seems a bit retarded that plenty of LA VAs will try to hook themselves up with FUNi anime gigs (e.g. Bryce Papenbrook auditioned for Attack on Titan despite not being an original invitee during casting) but if some fans merely suggest an outsider a line is possibly drawn...

Probably more likely to re-appear in another Sentai Filmworks anime dub than an LA project; of course a lot of former ADV talent has been returning to grow Houston's talent pool so even then it's probably best not to be too hopeful.

@JF1991 There's a lot of voice actors from Funimation that got voice roles for Fire Emblem characters. Alexis Tipton, Ian Sinclair, and Monica Rial just to name a few. I also know that Jamie does a lot of voice roles for a lot of shows on Funimation, it's possible that she could be given a chance for FE Heroes!

She always plays such a sassy character which she has the PERFECT voice for (I'm not calling you sassy, Jami)

Heaven's Lost Property is my fave anime of all time and her character in Akuma no Riddle is flawless (aside from the fact that she's an assassin but I guess that turns some people on so nevermind.)

Happy Birthday! (it's still October 8 on the Pacific Coast as I write this)

I find her career fascinating. Her debut back in 2003 was very lowkey and it was a few years until she started getting bigger roles and more attention. She enjoyed some success along the way before eventually reaching a level few do; 2010-present is without a doubt her era. While there are other great dub VAs and many of them are successful too she's the headliner, main attraction, marquee player, etc you either have that trait or you don't. Some VAs think they're 'box office' but they really aren't... Shame to hear some studios refuse to work with her; if they ever get tired of failing or underwhelming (then fans no longer need to make obvious or annoying suggestions for improvement) maybe someday they'll change their stubborn minds.

Thanks for keeping dubs entertaining Jamie!

@Omar_Lopez I'm not too much of a big fan but I'm curious as to why is she underappreciated by some of the studios. Aside from that, I'm hoping she will get a gig at LA one day.

@TheAdapter Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one. I prefer her take from the DR1 anime, as the different personalities get more room to shine. Plus, the valley girl accent is much less, I don't know.... overt, I guess.

Great VA, obnoxious fanboys though.
said at 7:52 AM on Sat Aug 20 2016
@Food4thought In all honesty, I'm inclined to agree with you. As good as she is, some people glorify her to an absurd degree, even proclaiming that they have no interest in a dub if she is not in it.

I've even heard that some people go so far as to bully directors into casting her more often. It's gotten to the point where Marchi herself has called these people out. I love her as much as anyone else, but people should realize that this kind of behavior is only going to make her look bad.

@BioZero216 Eh, it's unfair to hold people accountable for the behavior of their fans
said at 2:28 PM on Thu Sep 22 2016
@Food4thought I agree that her fanboys are pretty obnoxious, but I find that fanboys of Troy Baker, Yuri Lowenthal, and most of the popular male VAs are far worse, at least from what I've seen in my opinion. They think that they're some of the only good voice actors in the anime dub industry.

She's going to be Ayame Kajou/Blue Snow? Okay, I'm actually on board with this choice. Honestly I was vouching for either Jessica Calvello or even Tabitha Ray, but Marchi seems like she could nail the character and it's a casting decision regarding Shimoneta's dub that legit piqued my interest compared to most of the other choices which feel kinda uninspired; no offense to the other VAs involved at all.

Though I've heard her voice more than dozens of times, I've yet to get sick of Jamie Marchi. She's real charismatic, has quite a few of my favorite roles (e.g. Rias Gremory and Panty Anarchy), and her voice in and of itself is pretty easy to pick out. She's become one of my favorite voice actresses affiliated with FUNimation throughout the years.

Maybe just me but I think she's at her best in dramatic roles

- Chiyuki
- Rias, Uzume Cana have their moments
- Masane Amaha
- Five

But ADR Directors seem to think she's best suited for ecchi which can have some drama but is usually more comedic (a genre that seems to be drying up). One person on twitter wrote recently that she is

"the Milla Jovovich of anime. 90% of her characters seem to wind up naked. Almost feels like a trope at this point"

Probably not what she wants her legacy to be but it seems a bit too late to change now, may as well embrace it if you're the best at something. There's a bunch of new talent to compete for "good" roles in "good" shows and TPTB are probably more inclined to cast someone newer. Nielsen VideoScan has also most likely proven to TPTB that fanservice shows sell better when she is a notable cast member.

I'd like to hear her in more boy roles; because TBH a lot of the voice actresses who are getting cast as them aren't THAT great and believable... OR maybe mix-things up and make HER the female MC in a reverse harem for a change; there seems to be an increase in these anime in recent years.

Apparently she's going to Palm Springs for a week long vacation. I'm going to assume it's just that... however that is a pretty long time to just relax (weekend gets the same result & less costly) and worth noting Burbank (Bang Zoom, Cup of Tea) or Studio City (Studiopolis) or Beverly Hills (New Generation Pictures) are only 2 hours away... Wishful thinking of course. Hope for something and it rarely happens vs. unexpected surprises. On the 1% chance she does maybe book a gig or 2 in a California dub or game it won't turn up until probably 6 months - 1 year later. Would be a waste of an opportunity if nothing happened IMO but it's a 2 way agreement... maybe TPTB in Cali are still stubborn and reluctant to approve casting certain out of region VAs... #favoritism #nepotism

Pretty amazing how tons of veteran VAs in anime dubs with the same amount of experience (or more) have regressed or remained average while she has continued to improve every year (and was already pretty darn good when she made her debut)

Makes me wonder if she's even reached her full potential or even hit her prime yet.

Even the great Justin Cook once specifically mentioned her in an ANN Interview on her gradual rise to getting cast in bigger roles and getting more work and she's certainly been a juggernaut since then and it couldn't happen to a more deserving VA.

Plenty of VAs may have a more popular resume but consider this.

Jamie Marchi has been as popular and successful with a huge majority of her titles being very niche or not "must see"

Swap her resume with anybody else and I bet she's even more popular and successful while the other VA doesn't stand out as much after losing their shield of "must see" content.

Happy Birthday! Like many Japanese voice actresses she's barely aged. :)

Been a good year for her. Arguably her best since 2012. Starred in one of the best dubs of the year (Death Parade) and made her Sentai Filmworks debut; they even wished her Happy Birthday which I think is neat (maybe they're being subtle and trying to sway her into working on their dubs more in the future? Their gain, FUNi's loss :P)

I agree with Autovolt. Nobody voices ecchi anime better. It may not be the most glorious or respected achievement to some, or perhaps where she wanted majority of her career highlights to be but she's made a lot of people happy and helped raised a new standard for excellence in that genre; it wouldn't be unreasonable to claim she's been a pioneer for better voice acting in those type of shows; before her you'd probably struggle to think of anyone decent...

I'd have to do actual research to confirm it but I have a feeling she's actually voiced more nude (non-hentai, shows nipples) characters than any other English VA in dubbed anime history.

Rias Gremory, Rana Linchen, Uzume, Ranko Saoji, Hex, Neko Kuroha, Shirley Yeager, Shizuka Nekonome, Moriko Tomoyose, Ai Mikami = 10 characters!

If there was a fanservice Hall of Fame she'd be a first ballot entry.

Happy Birthday Jamie Marchi!

She's got it all, gorgeous looks and such a sexy sounding voice. It's not hard to see why she's not only the favourite VA of so many people here but also number 1 or 2 for the most popular VA of the week.

One thing I like about Jamie is that unlike a lot of VA's she's perfectly fine with doing ecchi anime, in fact this is where she tends to shine best in fact. Rias Gremory is without a doubt my favourite role of hers, she does sound a little bit more mature sounding than say Yoko Hikasa but she just fits all the same and of course sounds beautiful in the role, perfect for this devil with devilishy good looks.

I also loved her performances as Liz Thompson, Cana Alberona, Hex, Uzume, Shoko Inari, Shouko Kirishima, Spooky Boogie, Mikako Satsukitane, Mitsuko Kongo, Rana Linchen, Rebecca Catalina, Rick, Tsuyu, Chloe, Lotta Cash, Hiroko, Matsu, Yoko and Angelica.

I also thinks its awesome that she's working at Sentai Filmworks now...she'll definitely become a major bright spot in their dubs, oh and Ian Sinclair is a lucky man.

I haven't heard too much of her newer roles from this year but I did really like Jamie as Mount Lady in My Hero Academia.

While I have never seen Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist, I am kind of looking forward to her performance as Ayame Kajo. Something just tells me that Jamie is not only going to the nail the role, but she's gonna rock the role. She tends to excellent in comedic and fan servicey times types of shows so this should be a home run right here.

She should play some more little boy roles like Rick from Fullmetal Alchemist.
said at 11:02 AM on Tue May 12 2015

I think I once read a few years ago where said the reason she doesn't voice boys more often is because it hurts her voice. To be fair most VAs probably put comfort first unless they really need the money or it's a huge role. For example if you listen to Colleen Clinkenbeard her voice has gradually became a little more hoarse and raspier over the years and it even slightly affect her performance when she's voicing women and suppose to sound very feminine...

However I did watch a youtube panel (don't remember which con, think it was from 2014) but Jamie was telling a story that one time she was playing with her dog and pretended to do its voice (did a little boy voice). She actually sounded pretty good so maybe she's gotten better/more comfortable and might voice more boys in the future.

Oh yeah apparently Jamie Marchi is also working on a dub for Sentai Filmworks. :)

For the first time in a while I'm actually looking forward to some of their releases which hopefully get dubbed and w/ Jamie in lots of them.

(Triage X, Grisaia, and while not officially confirmed yet it's likely Sentai also has The Testament of Sister New Devil)
said at 11:18 AM on Tue May 12 2015

About Colleen's voice getting raspier, I blame Mike McFarland on that one LOL.

Seriously though, that is cool that Jamie is voicing on a Sentai dub. :-)
said at 2:33 AM on Mon Aug 10 2015

Around the time of her recording session at Sentai Filmworks/Seraphim Digital from what I've learned it's probably Akame ga Kill!

Some fans are saying she'll voice Esdeath. Episode 5 seems so long away. :)
said at 2:31 PM on Mon Aug 10 2015

That is an awesome possibility. However, I think another possible Esdeath is Carli Mosier. I found out from a Facebook user that Carli is also in it.

I agree with you that Episode 5 is "so long away". It seems like lots of years for me. :-)

Mind stating your source? If it's not Akame ga Kill! I think I know which other anime it might be (I believe Kyle Jones was working on both around the same time)
said at 1:13 PM on Wed Aug 19 2015

Saw her comment on the Facebook group "Jamie Marchi's Bewitched Warriors". It was when one group member posted a picture of Esdeath, Jamie said that she is not playing her, but she said that something she worked on will be announced soon.
said at 1:44 PM on Wed Aug 19 2015
Good to know. The other show that Kyle Jones might have been working on at the time Jamie was at Seraphim (though the ADR Director hasn't been revealed yet AFAIK) is Parasyte -the maxim- which will air on Toonami this Fall (Kyle posted a photo looking freaked out with a bunch of tentacles/multiple limbs on a wall behind him)

But if it's not that it could always be something else coming out this year.

Brynhildr in the Darkness (directed by Kyle Jones) *coming out in October

Black Bullet (ADR direct unknown atm) *coming out in October

DRAMAtical Murder (ADR director unknown atm) *coming out in November but is primarily a male cast so this seems unlikely

Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei (safe to assume Kyle will return to direct) *hasn't been slated for release yet, maybe December

Log Horizon 2 (safe to assume Kyle will return to direct) *hasn't been slated for release yet, maybe December, Sentai did say stay tuned for release details

Chaika the Coffin Princess (ADR director unknown atm) possible December release

Or maybe something else that will get a dub and be released in December.

Le Fruit de la Grisaia? Amagi Brilliant Park? Cross Ange?

You're exactly right.
Fortunately, I'm able to do young boy voices because of my natural raspy vocals. Which is why many of the FUNimation directors cast me as little boy roles quite often..
As a voice actor, you have to know what voices you can and cannot do. You don't want to push yourself to the point where you don't sound natural or you can't keep up the voice for an 8 hour recording session..

This is most likely a pipe dream, but I would like her to voice the "Demon Queen" on Maoyu.

Too bad Sentai Filmworks licensed it though instead of FUNimation.

Overrated, not bad. She is talented voice actress but why is she always number one on the most popular voice actors of the week. I don't understand.
said at 3:06 PM on Thu Mar 12 2015
Many people find her physically attractive. Why wouldn't she be popular? It's worked very well for other actresses like Tara Strong who have a combination of being hot and talented.

Maybe it is superficial but Japan's voice acting industry relies heavily on good looking, handsome, beautiful or cute VAs. Makes them a lot more marketable. Voice acting is still a business just like movies and television. Sometimes just being talented isn't enough.

Compared to other VAs (though I'd say a lot of anime VAs in general) usually have new credits added sooner since their new roles are released sooner. Pre-lay VAs who only work on cartoons don't have their credits added for at least a year because a lot of time is spent on post production and then waiting for that one episode to air on TV. Dubbed anime episodes are released in batches e.g. half season sets, or complete series (12-13 episodes) in just on month. Prelay video game VAs also tend to have all their credits adding during the holiday season when all the popular games are released. So for the rest of the year there's barely any other new credits added so why visit their page?

@Lord Pigeon
Don't worry you're tame compared to some of the more detailed reactions and feedback I've read elsewhere online concerning her voice (e.g. 4chan; but since threads are temporary they're rarely saved)

Thinking her voice is extremely attractive is a clean compliment so no need to be shy.

Personally I usually won't even bother watching the dub of an ecchi/fanservice anime if she's not part of the cast. I'm mean it could still be well done but it's like "c'mon it could've been even better!"

I'm hoping she's in Daimidaler and Wanna be the Strongest in the World. Triage X and Prison School also if FUNimation licenses those and gives them broadcast dubs. :)

Stupid fanboy dream of mine but I would have liked to have heard her in Ikki Tousen, Samurai Girls and Queen's Blade. She's been in almost every other fanservice anime franchise (basically anime dubbing "law" at this point just like how Chris Sabat is often cast in Shonen Jump anime titles).

Unfortunately the average ADR Director doesn't put as much enthusiasm or passion into dubs for ecchi anime so they're content to cast almost anyone they can get since auditions are a lot smaller (reason why you see a lot of newcomers or experienced but lesser known VAs getting finally getting bigger roles). Some are decent, others not so much... Kind of a slap in the face to the elite VAs who are actually great and put in the effort like Jamie but I suppose there's that saying that everyone starts somewhere right and get better with more experience?

Statistically more people are more likely to watch an ecchi dub so if anything more consideration and effort should be put into casting for the dubs of these types of shows. Companies got their priorities mixed up...

Shame because Japan has nothing but stacked All-Star casts of the most popular and talented female seiyuu in the biz for many shows in that genre of anime. There's an assumption that dialogue sounds more pervy in Japanese and Japanese women sound more erotic. Definitely some truth to this but there are also some talented English VAs too who are just as good and some who are even better. However a half-*ssed dub isn't helping anybody.

Sequels are rare in anime yet High School DxD and Strike Witches are some notable fanservice franchises that are constantly profitable and show no signs of slowly down.

Too bad Jamie also gets a fraction of that appreciation. I blame majority of the English anime fandom for being too conservative, old fashioned or just being hypocrites.

Even though many people are still anonymous online few fans will openly admit they secretly like ecchi or watch it with pride. Read some youtube comments and it's "FUNimation licenses too much fanservice" despite the fact they license a wide variety of genres yet ecchi gets singled out very often.

Fans b*tch yet somehow those shows keep selling well. Never underestimate the silent, supportive gentleman type fans. Online talk doesn't always = high sales

Long story summed up, while Jamie has worked on a lot of different anime and of multiple genres, her voice is probably best suited for ecchi and where the majority of her most popular roles are too. Probably not something she wants to admit or embrace but I for one am glad she's made a name for herself in this area. :)

I definitely think that Prison School should be licensed by FUNi, and that Jamie should play Mari Kurihara (the Student Council President). I also think that Colleen Clinkenbeard should play Meiko Shiraki (the Vice President with the glasses).

Even though English dubs have improved over the years I'm still often disappointed with several miscast decisions and underwhelming performances. 2014 being the weakest year for dubs in recent memory...

Jamie Marchi is one of the few English voice actresses worth listening to IMO and if it wasn't for her reliable and likable voice work, I probably would have drop dubs completely a long time ago.

Unfortunate she isn't part of the Dead or Alive franchise; Jamie would be a natural fit!

While I'd like to hear her as Nyotengu (assuming the character gets an English voice) I won't be surprised if it's another L.A. actress.

@Brett_Robinson Ha, now that you mention it, I really want to see that happen. I wish I was more familiar with her work, but from what I know, she'd be a perfect match for the series. Non-union LA dubs could definitely stand to use a little more variety; to an extent it's the nature of the beast, but the trend of Texas VAs getting one-off gigs in the area seems to be growing.

Thankfully I'm starting to get back into anime lately and want to check out some Funi dubs, so we'll see if I can really count myself as a real member of the Jamie Marchi fan club.

@NCZ Whats wrong with L.A. based actors? are they bad or something? I'm just curious after all. Overall, I think Jamie would be great for the new character in DOA5U but I feel like either Michelle Ruff or Tara platt( Yuri's wife) will do the character English voice some justice. I'm leaning more towards Tara Platt with this one. The voice she use for Mitsuru from persona 4 arena would be great but I don't know who would voicing the female tengu,

@BoondocksXAfrofan Eh? There's nothing wrong with LA voice actors. I was pointing out that non-union LA dub casts are fairly stagnant for the most part, i.e. it uses a limited talent pool and so many of the dubs wind up using the same actors over and over again. I like LA voice actors but a little diversity isn't a bad thing.
said at 10:36 PM on Mon Jul 14 2014
@NCZ Oh ok I understand. I was just wondering because I seen some people ripping on L.A. base actors. honestly I love most dub actors no matter where they're locally based for that matter. but yeah you right about them using the same actors thing. I'm still hoping either Michelle or Tara still get the role fingers crossed. Even if they don't, I'll be ok with whoever they pick to voice the new character. BTW thanks for the reply, I appreciate it and Jamie is an excellent actor. I personally love her roles in Witchblade, Freezing ,and Panty and Stocking.

@Brett_Robinson you gotta live in the state where they are making the stuff. With voice over work, people assume that you can live wherever you want and just send in your lines or something. Since Jamie lives in Texas, she cant work at a California voice over company.

I wish more fans would upload her convention panels on youtube but sadly it's probably this way because most fans would rather attend some other VA's panel (I've watched those vids from the same convention and I usually thought they were a waste of time, at least a Jamie Marchi panel is entertaining and actually interesting). I've also heard she sometimes requests fans not to record her panels which IMO is a bit dumb because not every fan will get the chance to attend a convention she goes to (seems a bit selfish) and most people have a short memory and years later won't remember that moment clearly, having a visual record you can see any time is helpful plus it's good promotion and awareness to introduce new fans to her. While I'm sure some fans are excited to hear her swear in-person IMO it's an overrated experience. She's my favorite VA but Panty doesn't even crack my top 20 favorite roles she's done. Tons of stuff I like better; be nice if she talked about other characters at her panels in the future.

Other people have mentioned it and I completely agree she's very attractive. Her boyfriend is a lucky guy but I think Jamie can do better. I'm guessing part of the appeal she sees in him is that he's a few years younger (Jamie Marchi is a cougar and being ageless helps!) and he's also a VA who's been on the rise in recent years. Jamie's success isn't an easy bar to reach (I'd say she's the breadwinner in the relationship) so I'll cut him some slack and acknowledge his effort, he's slowly catching up...
said at 12:39 PM on Fri Jul 4 2014
@EVRoss Convention panel videos are like the only way I can really get to know and love a VA personally, and yes, it is an immense disappointment that many anime fans gloss over Marchi (or her telling them not to record is saddening too), but I think in due time she'll have plenty of videos.

Definitely one of the best voice actresses of the 2010s, too bad plenty of voice directors & producers are still in the dark... I've been a fan of Jamie Marchi for many years and it always annoyed me she never got the proper recognition she deserved. Even when she gave great performances in the mid 2000s she was often overshadowed by other actresses just because they worked on more popular titles, plus in general majority of shows back then were primarily filled with male characters (times have certainly changed!) I won't lie. It's very satisfying to see her crushing her rivals these days. It's finally her time to soar!

Fantastic actress and being attractive doesn't hurt. :P

Bit disappointed that she hasn't got as many big roles this year besides Hex (Jormungand: Perfect Order) and Cana Alberona in Fairy Tail which is still ongoing. There's Mitsuko Kongo in the upcoming Railgun S release but I'm wondering if there will be anything else released near the end of the year to look forward to hearing more of Jamie in...

Maybe just me but I've noticed Funimation has been making a larger push than normal to get newcomers into big roles asap in 2014. I guess they're thinking long term and trying to limit the number of veterans per show so they can grow a new generation of dubbers...

I wish she'd use the opportunity to audition for other studios but AFAIK Sentai Filmworks likes to rush dub production and use the same 20ish people so bringing in talent outside of Houston rarely happens. And even if some voice directors in L.A. wanted to work with Jamie it's usually not their decision. Some producers who have bad taste or aren't qualified to make decisions actually do a lot of casting and this doesn't just apply to anime dubs and video games.

e.g. I believe Andrea Romano once said TPTB will have a group of people they like to audition for her (DC Animated movie projects) and it's her job to get the best performance out of them (or at least try)

I also find it interesting how Jamie's career has benefited a lot from working on fanservice shows when most VAs would assume it would hurt their careers and reputation (and hide behind a useless alias). IMO it only hurts your career and rep if you just plain suck, or don't have a thick skin, or don't have a sense of humor.

I'll wrap up this rant by saying it looks like Jamie has been getting more attention from casual viewers and people interested in voice-over.

No respect to BTVA (I do love your site more and think it's better in every way!) but people still visit imdb more often. I've noticed Jamie Marchi's imdb profile is much more complete than other VAs in anime dubs. I've also noticed she has a Japanese wikipedia page so you know that's a notable achievement when Japanese fans care about the anime work you do even if it's in another language.

I've read some other comments around the site where other fans have stated their fantasy castings (e.g. Jamie as Boa Hancock in One Piece & Rachel Stanley in Kenichi, both I also approve of and hope for btw!) so I suppose I'll make one of my own...

If Funimation ever licensed the infamous Manyuu Hikenchou anime series and dubbed it I'd love to hear Jamie as either Chifusa or Kagefusa for obvious reasons I shouldn't have to say. Would be god tier experience! :P

An actress I like to see in L.A; doing more video games, whether its North American or Japanese made.

I believe she'll fit in nicely in the world of pre-lay animation recording with the likes of seasoned actresses Grey Delisle, Tara Strong, Kari Wahlgren and Jennifer Hale and actors like Yuri Lowenthal, Troy Baker, Nolan North and Travis Willingham. Working along side them and many other talented voice actors/actresses in the L.A area can make her an even better actress. To top it off for animation, being voiced directed by Andrea Romano.

Finally to round off the praising, performance capture for video games, where her theatre and voice acting skill can really be show cased.

@akersaotome totally agree. Like j Michael tatum, monica rial, kent williams and josh Grelle, she'd be great for roles outside of anime. She'd be great for franchises like god of war, bio shock, infamous, the last of us, the arkham series, spiderman, avengers, iron man, captain America, the x-men, daredevil, the justice league, batman, teen titans, hulk, fairly odd parents, robot chicken, the Simpsons, family guy, American dad, transformers, guardians of the galaxy, avatar, gears of war, regular show, etc.
said at 6:10 PM on Tue Jan 28 2014

I agree. I'm looking at my list of what Funimation will probably release this year and it's looking very soft so far; even with some major titles. I fear 2014 might end up being as bad as 2011 was, unless there are some surprise new license announcements that have completed dubs ready to be released soon...

Funimation has a lot of backlog but because many of those shows are still being released on home video in Japan they probably won't see an English release until 2015...

Jamie should make a trip to L.A. and work on some games there during the downtime that Funimation is soon going to have

That is true if she wants to move the west coast. I look at video games like Tales of Xillia 2 where a good portion of the English cast are Texas based actors, worked on Funimation licenses, being cast and traveled to L.A to record. For these actors, it was a chance and good experience to work with a new team of people; then hopefully open more doors in L.A.

Guys..... I've heard of every voice actor-dead or alive- but I've never heard of this one. What's her big thing????
said at 11:31 AM on Tue Nov 26 2013

I guess it depends whether or not you watch anime dubs. If you only watch some, you're not watching enough. If you don't watch them, then I suppose it's understandable that some people won't be familiar with Jamie's work.

As for notable roles, if you only consider mainstream stuff e.g. aired on TV or recommended essential stuff people will say you should watch then some would be:

Masane Amaha in Witchblade, Liz Thompson in Soul Eater, Karako Koshio in Deadman Wonderland, Cana Alberona in Fairy Tail, Miss Valentine in One Piece, Juri in Yu Yu Hakusho, Rinslet Walker in Black Cat and Liara T'Soni in Mass Effect: Paragon Lost.

I would actually like it if Jamie was in more big titles and mainstream stuff. She's usually cast in niche stuff which is usually geared towards specific audiences. Niche titles aren't a bad thing at all; just than not as many people will watch them unless they're hardcore anime fans or the shows get lucky enough to air on TV.

Niche titles with some notable roles she's in are:
Rias Gremory in High School DxD, Panty in Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Uzume in Sekirei, Rana Linchen in Freezing, Mikako Satsukitane in Heaven's Lost Property, Shirley in Strike Witches, Meg in Burst Angel, Amander Werner in Blassreiter, Helen in Claymore, Mitsuko Kongo in A Certain Scientific Railgun, Ranko Saoji in Sankarea, Aki Hinata in Sgt. Frog, Narrator in Hetalia, Shouko Kirishima in Baka and Test, Mimi in RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne, and Shizuka Nekonome in Rosario+Vampire.

Of course this is just my opinion. Every show and character has their share of fans and some will consider some things a bigger deal than other fans.

But a lot of people working in anime can eventually build up a nice resume so what's special about Jamie?

Jamie Marchi has an important little thing called presence. Her voice is unique and her performances are most often the highlight of any cast she's part of. Her work is memorable. Surprisingly this isn't very common. There are countless VAs who just don't have that "it" quality that makes them special. Almost every VA believes they have it, but no they don't... If they all did, everybody in the industry would be working a lot more and be richer & more famous.

Now the following is just my own theory which could be B.S. or maybe is an enlightening truth.
In Japan the anime audience is very passionate about the aspect of voice acting but it goes beyond that. The fans strongly prefer it when the voices of their favorite characters are also good looking in real life. You might think this is madness. One of the benefits of voice acting has always been "people can't see you so a VA is not limited by their appearance like an on-camera role" right? Perhaps that was true once upon a time but times are slowly changing.
Jamie Marchi is a very attractive woman so it's natural that she has a lot of male fans. Perhaps for the wrong reasons but fans that support her and buy stuff she's in are still fans. In Japan many fans will refuse to buy anything unless their favorite VAs are part of the cast. Even though some will claim there's more variety with Japanese casting if you pay closer attention you'll notice that it's usually the same core group of Japanese VAs headlining new titles. It's not really all that different from Hollywood casting celebrities for their animated movies except Japan has been doing it longer but they give opportunities for lesser known VAs to gradually become leading role material. On-camera acting in Hollywood has highly valued an actor's appearance for a long time; pretty much since the beginning of the industry. Talent + Good Looks = Perfect Combination, the ideal role model, great marketing tool, etc

Anyway I guess my point is Japanese fans like talented VAs are also good looking just like how fans like their Hollywood movie stars and TV stars to be good looking too. Jamie Marchi is sort of an equivalent with the same potential but for English voice acting. Obviously Jamie isn't getting roles just because she's better looking than most. If that was the case she'd be blowing most of the competition away and many other good looking VAs would have even bigger careers. The first and foremost important thing about voice acting is, should and hopefully always will be is the acting. If the person is good looking too that's just a great bonus to many.

Some people have already commented on it but Jamie Marchi didn't get things handed to her. She worked hard from minor roles to a leading lady. IMO anyone who says she's overrated doesn't really know what they're talking about. She might be cast in a lot of stuff now but that wasn't always the case and they should remember that.

Deep down I do believe that everyone wants Jamie Marchi in cartoons everywhere. Her time is about to shine sooner than expected.

Pretty sure she'll voice a character in Freezing; hopefully one of the leads (Satellizer, Elizabeth, Chiffon, Rana or Ganessa).

IMO she'd be a great Boa Hancock (One Piece) and also be great as the new Fujiko Mine (Lupin the 3rd) if Funimation picks up the home video rights (hope the streams get high numbers).

I might sound weird for saying this but I've noticed every dub I've watched is always better with her presence in it (even a small guest role) than if she's not in it. But the larger the role the better the dub is overall.

I really think this woman is a good luck charm!

Anyways these are my favorite characters she's voiced, but I wouldn't be surprised if I swapped some out for new roles in the future.

*Masane (Witchblade)
*Mikako (Heaven's Lost Property franchise)
*Uzume (Sekirei franchise)
*Cana (Fairy Tail)
*Helen (Claymore)
*Shirley (Strike Witches)
*Rinslet (Black Cat)
*Shouko (Baka and Test)
*Ms. Nekonome (Rosario+Vampire)
*Aki (Sgt Frog)

@freezeframe100 Well, you got the Freezing part right. But for the other two characters, I'm not sure about that.

@Jackson H

Do you think they'll be alot of endorsements for Jamie outside for Funimation. Next Year will be the year for a lot of Funi VA's to be everywhere on animation. Jamie is gonna lead it by force and example, in a couple of years VA talents will have better recognition than those half-assed celebrities.

What to say about my favorite VA? :)

Well she's a very talented actress and she's great with her fans.

I think it's neat that she still works in theatre now and then, even though she basically has a full-time career as a voice-artist (plus occasionally a script writer & voice director) which probably pays much better.

I also think she's a great example to anyone who wants to get into voice-over animation.

1. It's hard to get into that specific career field
(unless you get lucky or have good timing, usually it depends on who you know A.K.A. connections)

2. It's difficult to remain there and work often

Some new VAs would probably get discouraged and give up after a while if they were stuck doing minor roles. Others might not have the patience to stick with it and keep trying until they got a larger role (or any role at all).

Jamie worked her way up and I think it's safe to say she's now a core VA in the Funimation talent pool.

Well deserved!

I actually got to meet her at a convention this year and she was pretty cool! I hope she comes back again in the future.

My 5 favorite roles of hers (at the moment) are:
- Uzume (Sekirei)
- Masane Amaha/Witchblade (Witchblade)
- Aki Hinata (Sgt Frog)
- Mimi (RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne)
- Miss Polly (Shin Chan)

I have a feeling I may have to update my list once I hear her Mikako (Heaven's Lost Property) and Cana (Fairy Tail) voices. :)
