I think Ian is the only actor who has worked in anime dubbing, who openly prefers subs to dubs.

@Lpfan120 where did u hear that I mean yes he did left anime because of pay reasons same goes for other actors but I never heard him say the sub is better

@Abdullab He implies that in his interview with Kirbopher.

It's a shame that he doesn't do anime dubs anymore. It would have been cool if he had reprised Goku in the Ocean Kai dub with more experience and better direction.

@8000 Saiyans u know Ian recently confirmed has he known about ocean kai he would have accepted the reprisal in the heartbeat

Happy Birthday Ian James Corlett!

My top 5 favourite roles of his are:

1.) Cheetor (Beast Wars)
2.) Shadow Raker (Transformers: Robots In Disguise)
3.) Coconuts (The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog)
4.) Goku (Dragon Ball Z)
5.) Gnawgahyde (G.I Joe)

Man...Oh Man....His Shadow Raker was awesome. As someone who was in the room when Ian said he would be voicing in an episode of RID at last year's TFCon, nothing was more satisifying than watching that exact episode he was talking about. Ian's performance as Shadow Raker is one of the biggest playing against type roles he could have done, playing a straight up villain. Shadow Raker is *SPOILERS* Drift's old master *SPOILERS* While I personally felt they didn't do enough to establish their backstory, Shadow Raker's creepy presence was excellent, I found it rather amusing too especially since Ian has said that funny characters are the types of character he's the most comfortable with....yet he can rock a villain role with ease. Shame we may not ever see this character again, I wish we could. Ian was fantastic as Shadow Raker.

I hope he gets more opportunities to voice more villains or even in the Transformers franchise.

Really wish he stuck around anime for a little longer, but it makes sense he wouldn't if his payment was peanuts.

Really enjoyed his performance as Shuichi Tataki in Key The Metal Idol! Sad he left but Peter Kelamis was a good replacement for him.

Happy Birthday Ian James Corlett!

He was just awesome as Cheetor in Beast Wars, played him perfectly from being a young eager teenager to a mature grown up adult in Beast Machines. I was very amazed by his performance in Beast Machines in particular, when watching it it's hard to believe this was the same character who used to say "Jumping Gyros", one of the better aspects of the show IMO.

I also gotta give props for him being the first English voice of the Adult Son Goku. He definitely set the standard for Goku would sound in the west. It's a shame he had a falling out with Ocean, I would have loved to hear him in more anime.

Also it's very cool that he created Being Ian and Yvon of the Yukon, I used to love those shows growing up back in the day, and his daughter Claire Corlett is very talented as Sweetie Belle.

@Autovolt Well, there's Kyle Rideout as a potential Ocean replacement for him. The reason of the falling out was that Ian was getting paid less with ADR (Ocean specialized in it) compared to pre-lay animation (Joshua Seth also left the voice acting industry for similar reasons, since anime companies were paying their actors less than before and looking for cheaper non-union alternatives (Dave Wittenberg used to be common in anime dubs up to the mid-2000s, but since the recession the likes of Johnny Yong Bosch and Grant George have taken over his dub mantle), contrary to his belief that anime companies should spend more money on voice talent, which isn't possible since anime dubs in general pay less, as well as being a niche nerd interest compared to Marvel and DC Comics (and it's rather hard to break out of that mold), and that anime dub voice acting is often looked down as the bottom of the barrel in voice acting and stigmatized because of it. That why there's a clear divide between actors who do pre-lay animation/union works and those who do ADR/non-union works in LA, compared to a place like Vancouver or Dallas where the divide is much less obvious).

A month ago at TFCon Toronto, I had the pleasure of meeting Ian James Corlett and he was a great guest.

I managed to get a MISB Cheetor figure for him to sign, also took a photo with him and got to ask him some questions at the BW Q&A Panel with fellow BW cast mate Jim Byrnes.

I think the most exciting thing that Ian had to announce at TFCon was that he will be voicing a character in a upcoming episode of Transformers: Robots In Disguise (2015), and it's awesome that we're going to be hearing him in the Transformers franchise again. :D

Happy Birthday Ian James Corlett! Thanks for attending TFCon this year, helping be one of the many reasons it was a blast and also being the first Vancouver VA I got to meet, which means a lot since Vancouver is sentimentally my favourite talent pool.

I remember when I read his wikipedia article it said "He currently lives in Vancouver with his wife and two children. Both children, Phillip Corlett and Claire Corlett, have done voice work for two different animated series, ''Dinosaur Train'' and ''My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic'', respectively" and I was like why isn't he in MLP FiM but now he is. Congratulations man.
