@EPA Deane I like Hans' Captain Hook, but he doesn't make it to my top ten, since I feel these other roles resonate more with me.

Happy birthday and RIP Hans Conried!!!

One of the most versatile and energetic character actors from the old radio days.

He was perfect as Thorin Oakenshield and as the Chameleon.

He could have done much more work during the 80's. He was one of those extremely talented people that was taken too soon from us.

He was a much more versatile actor than people realized.

Sure he spent a lot of his time playing villains and pedants, but he could do more. He actually does get a lot of comic sympathy playing Mr. Darling (precursor to George Banks).
And he had serious chops - listen to him as Thorin, especially his acting during the death scene.
But my favorite role of his is Horton the Elephant, the opposite of most of his famous roles - he's innocent, gentle, heroic, and totally lovable, nailed the character ten times better than Jim Carrey did. Of course, it helps that Hans was an actual friend of Dr. Seuss!

Linda (Angela Cartwirght): I failed my American History test.
Kathy (Marjorie Lord): But that's your best subject
Uncle Tonoose (Hans Conried): How could you fail? I helped you myself.
Linda: I know but my teacher said that America was not founded by a Lebanese sailor.
Kathy: Uncle Tonoose, you told her Christopher Columbus was a Lebanese?!
Uncle Tonoose: Sure, what do you think he was Eskimo?
Kathy: Oh ,Uncle Tonoose how could you do a thing like that?
Uncle Tonoose: Well, He was born in the same village in Lebanon as George Washington.

I seem to recall that he played the Magic Mirror in a Disney Halloween Special. I don't think it counts as voice acting as such - it was just his face, heavily made-up, appearing in the mirror - but I thought it was worth bringing up.

Happy Birthday and RIP Hans Conried.

One of the classic VA's from the old days that always delivered entertaining performances. Captain Hook and Chameleon are easily my favs of his.

He was a wonderful VA. His best role has to be Captain Hook hands down.

RIP Han, you were amazing.

If he were still alive today, he'd make for an excellent Dr. Eggman (but that doesn't mean that I don't like Mike Pollock). Anyone agree?

@VoiceFan I can see where your going with that. Would of had to be in his lower register but he definitely would have made a good Eggman!

Hans Conried (1917 - 1982) is a good actor before his death. He did the voice of the Grinch from The Grinch Night and Thorin from The Hobbit.

Do you think he has a son or something?
