RIP Ed Blaylock.

I still cannot believe he's already been gone for over a week now.

He may not have been one of FUNimation's most used talents and assets but he was definitely one of their one finest performers they've ever had, with such a rich voice and delivery.

also I'm a bit surprised to find out we had his birthday wrong until recently.

It's nice that he had some major work last year but a shame he was unable to do any new roles this year. I think he could have been an amazing voice for Gowasu in Dragon Ball Super.

It's a shame between Ed Blaylock, Cole Brown and Bob Magruder the past few years, FUNimation is losing so many of their best old guy voices with great rich sounds.

@Autovolt I really feel like Ed Blaylock was like FUNi's Tony Jay or Christopher Lee (RIP to all three, ofc).

Rest in Peace Ed Blaylock.

My favorite role of his currently is actually Fritz Lang, as I thought he brought a lot of depth to this Jewish filmmaker.

He was also just plain awesome as Fuhrer King Bradley/Pride in FMA 2003, and I'm really looking forward to hearing him as Wrath in Brotherhood.

He was a very underused and talented actor, and I am very sad to see him gone.

"Motion pictures and weapons of war: science has has created them both. So while others point guns, I'll have my camera, offering fantastic dreams of other worlds just beyond our reach."

@GreenGoblin75 you will love his wrath better than his 2003 performance. in brotherhood the character is a bit more sympathetic and the death scene no spoilers but trust me you will love the bradley in brotherhood more than 2003

said at 2:55 PM on Mon Apr 24 2017
@Abdullab Yes, but there are various details that change. Different characters die in different ways, different things happen to different people etc. The whole story changes radically halfway through.

RIP, Mr. Blaylock.

I had always thought he had done a remarkable job as Sengoku in the FUNimation One Piece dub, King Bradley in the Fullmetal Alchemist dub, and I even found his bit part as Mr. Iwamoto in FUNimation's Yu-Yu Hakusho dub fun to listen to.

This is plain disheartening. Now I'll admit that I haven't heard much of this man's work, but going off what I *have* stumbled upon, he was fantastic with what material he was given. His Fuhrer King Bradley was definitely three-dimensional, though the guy also pretty much rocked as Mr. Iwamato, the Conductor, and Director.

R.I.P., Ed Blaylock.

@itsmedeadpool Worst part is this is the Forth year in a row that an older Funimation voice actor has died. 2014 was Jerry Russell and 2015 was Bob Magruder. I was really hoping that this year would be the year to not have this unfortunate occurrence. Quiet the shame.

I've been waiting over five years hoping that I'll be able to hear Ed Blaylock in a role that allows him to use a British accent. I'm sure it would sound great but such an opportunity rarely shows itself. The only upcoming Dallas dub that even uses the British dialect is Black Butler: Book of Circus but there aren't any real sufficient older characters in that show that would fit Blaylock's voice besides maybe a random background character. He would have to be cast as well which rarely happens more then a few times a year(which is complete nonsense in itself) It may happen one day depending on the ADR Director and the show itself. Bill Jenkins is the other actor that I know without a doubt can pull off a flawless British accent but just hasn't had the chance to show off yet. In good time hopefully I'll hear it from both of these talented actors in the near future.

@IAMTHEVASTUNIVERSE I don't know if its just me but I've always thought Ed at times kind of reminds me of an accentless or rather an American sounding Sean Connery.

It would be cool to hear him in an English accent or any accent really, or in more things in general.

Happy Birthday Ed Blaylock!

Fuhrer King Bradley is such a epic character in just about every way. The way he performs his friendly easy outgoing reasonable authority figure feels so genuine that when you find out its all a facade, not only is this twist effective, he becomes a legitimately scary and unstoppable force to be reckoned with.

His performances in Baccano!, Fairy Tail and Space Dandy were also very good despite how brief those roles were.

It's such a shame FUNimation does not call upon Ed Blaylock to voice in more of their dubs, he is easily one of the best actors in the entire talent pool, Hopefully they start using him more often. I'm really hoping they bring Ed in to replace the late Bob Magruder as the voice of Igneel and the Narrator on Fairy Tail, due to how similar they both sound that and the fact Hidekatsu Shibata also voices these characters in the Japanese version.

Happy birthday, Ed Blaylock! His Fuhrer King Bradley performance in FMA Brotherhood is genuinely scary. He can switch between charming and inspiring to cold and imposing in the blink of an eye, and to me he pretty much steals the show in every scene he's in.

He has so much presence in his roles. It's too bad he doesn't get cast more because in my opinion he's one of Funi's best actors.
