"It's such a wonderful visual isn't it. Megs in a tub squeezing his rubber ducky !! That's his escape. Locking the doors filling the tub...lotsa bubbles ....and his little friend."

(in Optimus Prime's voice)
"That's it, Megatron. I've had it! Bumblebee... SpongeBob... transform and roll out!"

(When requested upon doing an small bit of improv on what if Megatron, Sesshomaru and Treize were roomies in an apartment)
Megatron: All right, who has been putting dirty socks in the kitchen sink?
Sesshomaru: It was Jaken's fault!
Megatron: And where the hell is my rubber ducky?
Sesshomaru: Trieze, what are you doing in the bedroom?
Trieze: I'm spending time with Lady Une...
Megatron: Oh, "spending time with Lady Une" huh? *sigh*

(in Megatron's voice)
"Oh, rubber ducky, you're the one..."

(On Megatron and Frank Welker)
"All in all, I just tried to have fun with him and lets not forget, Frank Welker's a bit of a legend. Me...I've a lot of years to go."

While I don't think Dale Wilson was a bad choice, I would have been interested to see David Kaye voicing Cell in the Ocean dub of Dragon Ball Z. He would have been just as good as Dameon Clarke, if not better.

David Kaye is definitely my favourite Canadian voice actor of all time. Very good performances in all of his work. His voice work in Transformers: Beast Wars and even some of the newer cartoons, are a great showcase of his range. Though I think the best examples of his vocal range has to be from the Ben 10 series and the Marvel characters that he's voiced over the years.

Recoome, Sesshomaru & Treize are his best roles from the various anime he did, despite his presence in anime being much smaller in comparison to his former peers actors that are affiliated with Ocean Productions.

This guy is easily one of the finest voice actors ever. Megatron, Optimus Prime, Sesshomaru, JARVIS, Protoman, Recoome...he's simply amazing.

It's a shame that he doesn't work for Ocean anymore.

@8000 Saiyans This fact may interest u that Kaye got to voice Jedah in MvC: Infinite and he was in the darkstalkers ova as Pyron so Kaye got to play a Japanese original character again after so long

"My salvation is the answer to all your prayers."

Although I think the voice work in MvC:I is... questionable, to say the least, this man's performance as Jedah Dohma is amazing - and way better than Travis Willingham's rendition in Cross Edge. Not *quite* as memorable a take as Isshin's, but on its own, the portrayal's excellent. I also do appreciate that Dave got to work with the classic reverb filter, plus he did the character's trademark cackle very well. Fun trivia: the actor went from Pyron in the OVA to Jedah many years later. That's what I call a promotion!

Once again, HBD David Kaye!

Happy Birthday David Kaye!

My top 10 favourite roles of his are:

1.) Megatron (Beast Wars/Transformers Armada/Transformers Cybertron)
2.) Optimus Prime (Transformers Animated)
3.) Lugnut (Transformers Animated)
4.) Sesshomaru (InuYasha)
5.) Professor Charles Xavier (X-Men Evolution)
6.) Treize Khusrenada (Gundam Wing)
7.) Protoman.EXE (Megaman NT Warrior)
8.) Khyber The Huntsman (Ben 10 Omniverse)
9.) Recoome (Dragon Ball Z)
10.) General Tandin (Star Wars: The Clone Wars)

It was great hearing him return to the Transformers franchise once more voicing a new character, the Stunticon Slashmark in Transformers Robots In Disguise (2015) and for the first time since Animated, it wasn't a rehash of the same voice Kaye would use for Lugnut, Hardshell and Hammerstrike. Instead it was a pompus stuffy English accent and he was hilarious. Granted Slashmark appeared the least out of the Stunticons as he was introduced last but Kaye really helped made him stand out and made him pretty memorable despite that. He pretty much hinted at this last year on his Twitter and I'm glad he was able to secure another role in the franchise, a decently sized recurring role. I'm hoping for the next upcoming Transformers show David is able to book a main or regularly recurring role, something he hasn't done since Animated ended.

As for other new roles, his Grandpa Max on the Ben 10 Reboot....is okay. Just okay. It's not one of his better roles but I chalk it up to being miscast really, he plays the role well but it sounds too young for a Grandpa and I definitely miss Paul Eiding in the role. I do find it a bit questionable though that Kaye despite being brought back for this new incarnation, doesn't reprise any of the aliens he voiced before, it would have been much cheaper and more economically viable for him to reprise Cannonbolt again instead of casting Travis Willingham.

Also his performance as Jedah Dohma in Marvel VS Capcom Infinite is pretty much the stand out performance in the otherwise trainwreck of a game. Definitely makes me hope that if Capcom decides to stop sucking and get good again, David needs to be brought back to voice Jedah in a new Darkstalkers game. It was just nice to hear him as a Japanese original character again for the first time since he stopped dubbing anime almost a decade ago.

I also liked his performance as the JARVIS Vision in Avengers Assembled, pretty fitting performance for the character, though I'd love to see what he could do as a more comic inspired version of the character.

Anyways, I rambled on long enough.

Happy Birthday David Kaye, my all time favourite time VA, now and forever more!

P.S since you did TFCon USA this year, *fingers crossed* He's doing TFCon Toronto next summer.....please!

@Ghosty404 Every once in a while I rewatch some David Kaye Megatron scenes just because he was so delicious in the role. :D

As much as I like the LA talent pool, I *really* do hope that the Transformers francise moves back to...anywhere else. Whether it's the Vancouver gang, eastern Canada or even New York or Texas, anything is a nice change of pace. Give some of the other talented VAs a shot. There's dozens of potentially good Megatrons out there.

@CaptainGrumpy Don't see how you got that from my response but OK. I was merely noting how long it was since David Kaye had appeared in an anime dub. 2007 was the switch from anime dubbing to pre-lay in original animated shows in Los Angeles.

Check Troy Baker's page out. There's more people complaining about him not being in much anime anymore more so than Kaye here.

@Shaun Ince David Kaye had been visiting LA back & forth since 2001 IIRC. It was his promo lessons with Don LaFontaine who told him to move to LA. David Kaye has made it more into promos, which are the loftiest job in all of voice-over, & even cartoons are just a side thing. He's really made it big.

@BlueScarabGuy "Canadian"
NCZ (Admin)
said at 1:22 PM on Thu Dec 8 2016

He is Canadian in origin and worked there for a significant portion of his VO career. Why the scare quotes?
said at 1:59 PM on Thu Dec 8 2016
@NCZ Mainly because, while Dave has had a pretty significant background in Canadian work..he's entirely cut off ties with them from a business standpoint. It certainly would be remiss to dismiss his serious background, but he hasnt really been relevant as a "Canadian voice actor".

It's like saying "Batman TAS is my favorite anime" in a way. Both TAS & recently Kaye's most known establishment *isnt* within the realm of anime/Canadian VO (both, in Kaye's case), so saying that may be perceived as a tad disingenuous. I like both BlueScarabGuy & David Kaye both.
NCZ (Admin)
said at 2:20 PM on Thu Dec 8 2016

It's more disingenuous to compare someone's nationality/country of origin to the place where an American-written cartoon was animated and say that they were "never relevant as a Canadian voice actor" despite having literally 100 credits in said country. Jeez louise.
said at 6:00 PM on Thu Dec 8 2016
@NCZ I didn't say Dave was "never relevant", but that his business entirely shifted to LA almost *10 years ago* now. He was *phenomenal* in Vancouver, but Tara Strong was as well, & heck Laura Bailey was FUNi's go-to lead girl back in the day as well. But you wouldnt generally think of Tara Strong or Laura Bailey as VAs of Toronto/Dallas, even *if* some prominent characters (Hello Kitty, tons of anime) of theirs were done there.

Many of Dave's roles prior to his move, like Clank, were American-only productions as well. He did do a lot of that to "dip his feet in the waters" so to speak. Definitely a comparison to a fellow VA, like say Troy Baker, is probably less offensive than the BTAS comparison, though, I'll agree.

David Kaye has huge range. It always surprises me when I hear him in something. Alot of the Marvel roles mostly the one's from Avengers Assemble I had little to no idea he voiced that character. His Baren Zemo was so similar to Robin Atkin Downes, I was almost convinced Robin reprised his role. That's how good Kaye is.

In terms of versatitlity he's up there with the Dobson brothers if not just that slight bit better. Though that's me being extremely generous.

@TwitchingFool0 Around the time Inuyahsa: The Final Act was being dubbed, Kaye had decided to become a permanent VA in LA instead. Prior to this, he'd been going back & forth between LA & Canada to do voice work.

Considering he also prefers Pre-Lay voice work more than anime, and that loads of cartoons are all pre-lay, might have influenced his decision to move to LA permanently.

Happy Birthday David Kaye!

Without a doubt my all time favourite VA EVER! Yup that's right David is my personal fav why because he's been a major part of my childhood in nearly every step of the way, as well as having a killer vocal range that works perfectly for charismatic villains, brutish warriors, announcers/news casters, aloof bishonens and even heroes too.

I've been a Transformers fan since 2003 and thus the first Megatron I ever heard was David Kaye's version in Transformers Armada. But the best version of his Megatron was in Beast Wars. Beast Wars Megatron is one of my all time favourite characters EVER, he's a cunning, manipulative and deliciously wicked villain and yet at the same time is very charismatic and yet would play in his bath tub with a rubber ducky. Megatron easily stole the show and so much of it was due to David's performance. While I wasn't the biggest fan of Beast Machines I really enjoyed their take on Megatron just the same. While he's a lot more serious and grimdark, I really dug how deep and malevolent sounding Megatron was here. His work on the Unicron Trilogy while not as strong as it was in Beast Wars and Beast Machines, I still really enjoyed his Megatron here too.

So after Cybertron finished it really came as a shock to me that David Kaye was then cast as Optimus Prime in Transformers Animated....I mean how does one feel after playing the villain for over 10 years you suddenly start voicing his arch-rival and heroic counterpart, well let me tell you David did not disappoint as Optimus. I loved TFA Optimus Prime, he was a younger rookie leader trying to find his footing being in charge instead of being a stoic and mature veteran Autobot leader and IMO this is the best version of Optimus Prime thus far. What else was great about Animated was that David got to show off his versatility here, also doing the brutish and fanatical Decepticon loyalist Megatron (again it's hilarious how became the number one worshipper of the character he's spent his career voicing) as well as Grimlock, Cliffjumper, Warpath and Highbrow.

During the same as the Unicron Trilogy I was getting into anime and my gateway series was InuYasha and I really took an immediate liking to Sesshomaru, this cold and aloof demon bishonen with a really icy tone of voice. It blew my mind when I found out that Sesshomaru and Megatron had the same VA. It's a shame he didn't reprise for The Final Act but Michael Daingerfield Hall did well as his replacement continuing where he left off.

I also loved his performances as Professor Xavier, Apocalypse, Iron Man, JARVIS, Mysterio, Treize Khusrenada, Protoman.EXE, Recoome, Iwao Takatsuki, Cronus, Savage/Noble, Hardshell, Hammerstrike, General Tandin, Captain Marvel, Superman, Bizzaro, Patrick O'Hara, Khyber the Huntsman, Cannonbolt, his numerous other roles on Ben 10 Omniverse and the Newsreel Announcer in Up.

I hope I get the chance to meet him someday, that for me would pretty much be the best day ever! Anyways I've rambled on long enough, Have a great day David Kaye!
said at 9:22 AM on Fri Oct 14 2016
A month ago on Twitter, David gave a cryptic message on Twitter implying he's done more voice work for Transformers: Robots in Disguise, which means either Hammerstrike is going to return or he's been cast as another character. Well either way I look forward to hearing more of him in the franchise that made gave him his breakout role (Megatron in Beast Wars).

It was great re-watching Beast Wars again this summer and I still really love his performance as Megatron. So charismatic, manipulative, cunning and most of all hilarious. This is a perfect villain performance in every way imaginable.

I also find it amusing that he shares his birthday with his fellow Beast Wars co-star, Richard Newman. Fitting since they also both voiced Energon Megatron too.

As for new roles, David did really well as Baron Zemo/Citizen V in Avengers Assemble, while I still prefer Robin Atkin Downes more in the role, David is easily my second favourite voice for Zemo. It's definitely one of the better casting choices in Avengers Assembled.

I for one would really love to see David Kaye land a role in a show like Voltron: Legendary Defender. I was thinking he would make a perfect Prince Lotor. That or get a major role in the next Transformers cartoon that comes out after RID wraps up.

Happy Birthday David Kaye!

I really hope he gets to be a guest at TFCon next year. Meeting him would be the best day ever.

I spoke with Insomniac Games' CEO Ted Price the other day regarding David Kaye. I brought to his attention that it seems like Insomniac is his greatest fan seeing as how he is a lead in every Ratchet & Clank game, the first two Resistance games, and WAS the lead in OverStrike, before it became Fuse. I asked him why they changed lead voice actors, and he said to ask TJ Fixman. I can only imagine because although the character he played is named Dalton Brooks just like the lead in Fuse, they're way different characters at heart.

@NCZ Me talking to him? I played with him on the demo of Fuse and got to ask him a whole lot of questions. His favorite Ratchet & Clank game is Up Your Arsenal, and I even asked him a few voice actor related questions too. I asked, "Have you ever vocally cameod in any of your games? Like a member of a crowd, or a random NPC?" "(laughingly) No! I am a horrible actor. I could never do anything like that! But one of my good friends, Lorne Lanning is an amazing actor and does almost all of the voice work in the Oddworld games." At this point, I almost blew my mind! Lorne Lanning is an absolute favorite of mine. Ted Price was an amazing guy to talk to.

@OptimusSolo Go somwhere and start hating. Don't come on to his page just to bash him no matter how little it is.

@OptimusSolo I'm open to debate this but first go to the Megatron VC for my defense.

@Slick It's an annual event; it happens every July. Don't know if you're in Canada though. It always takes place in the greater Toronto area.

I got to meet David Kaye at TFcon today. He's really nice and really funny. He improvised a sketch about Optimus Prime, Lugnut, Grimlock, and Megatron at a picnic.
