Happy birthday to Christopher Sabat, one of the most well known names in the history of FUNi since he has been with the company since the very beginning.

Despite getting off to a very rocky start, he is now an absolute perfect fit as both Vegeta and Piccolo and was also badass as All Might.

Love his LA appearances too in stuff like Dissidia FF, Saints Row, One Punch Man and Infamous: Last Son.

Funnily enough While he is Probably one of the Most Prolific Funimation VA (if not THE Most Prolific), I was Introduced to his Voice Work in Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy... A Mostly LA Talent Based Production.....

His getting cast as Inferno Cop is astonishing. It definitely didn't hurt that Sabat gave one of the stronger performances in Luluco's English dub. Granted, it *was* only an extended cameo and the character himself acted differently than he did in his own series, but I still think the VA did incredibly well with the role.

'Twas a nice surprise to hear the guy as Vaccine Man in OPM. It's not enough for the one-time (anti) villain to bear a strong resemblance to Piccolo, Chris Cason just *had* to get him to voice this character. Not that I'm complaining; if anything, he worked for what little material he had. I do believe OPM's also his first Bang Zoom! project.

I'm really enjoying his portrayal of Dr. Arthur Watts, too.

Once again, HBD Christopher Robin Sabat!

@blessanime Agree on his work as Roy Revant, he did an phenomenal job directing the dub for Solty Rei as well. Shame not many people seen this series, let alone the fact this one of the rare series Sabat got to voice the lead character itself (Other than Tatsumi Saiga from Speed Grapher (Another underrated Sabat role) and Kyoma Mabuchi from Dimension W).

Also surprised you have Hak since many hated the casting of him and Monica Rial as the leads in that shows dub.

2) Vegeta (Dragonball Z Kai)
3) Piccolo (Dragonball Z Kai)
4) Alex Louis Armstrong (Fullmetal Alchemist)
5) All Might (My Hero Academia)

7) Raizen (Yu Yu Hakusho)
8) King Piccolo (Dragonball)
9) Rome (Hetalia)
10) Shinogi Kosho (Baki The Grappler)

It's rather impressive how far Chris Sabat came over the years, starting out as a fledgling voice actor with practically nothing to his name, to one of the most renowned Anime voice actors in the industry. His voice acting has generally come a long way from his older Dragonball Z days- he sounds far more natural and less forced than he did back then, and considerably less gravelly with his deeper registrar roles (Piccolo being a perfect example of this).

Keep up the great work, Mr. Sabat, it's been a pleasure to watch your VO career grow over the years & evolve over time.

HBD to Christopher Sabat. He's definitely come a long way from dubbing half the characters on DBZ in somebody's basement in Texas (although, one could argue there's definitely room to improve there), I really like a lot of his work. In terms of Dragon Ball specificly, he's really shown passion & care for the show & I dont think the improvements we've gotten would've been nearly as prominent if it weren't for him. He got hired as just "some guy" on a show treated as some backwater job, & really has made an attempt to treat it with care.

Many of his castings in new dubs are some of the best voices in any DB dub - Freeza & Beerus, for two of them. His recording studio is pretty great & could *certainly* use some more use & exposure, LA dub companies are smoking serious stuff not to dub more games there. Could also work on more original/Western games too. Speaking of which, I love that he was chosen to voice Marcus Fenix in Gears of War 2 for some time, he really is like the John DiMaggio of Texas VO. Definitely great for the big & broad characters.

Best roles:

1. Armstrong
2. Zoro
3. All Might
4. Braun (great show btw)
5. Vegeta/Piccolo
6. Garterbelt
7. Sludge
8. Garland
9. Kuwabara (controversial in some circles but objectively it's better casting than most of his DB roles)
10. Solid Snake (unofficial web production but he's really got potential outside of just a David Hayter impression)

Also, it's awesome he was in an Infamous sequel. & One-Punch Man (which I really should watch soon) & The Last Remnant's dub. Would be cool to hear him in LA more too; he'd make an *awesome* Hulk or Thing.

2.) Kazuma Kuwabara (Yu Yu Hakusho)
3.) Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z)
4.) Piccolo (Dragon Ball Z)
5.) All Might (My Hero Academia)
6.) Ddraig/Boosted Gear (High School DXD)
7.) Elfman Strauss (Fairy Tail)
8.) Yugo "Braun" Tennouji (Steins;Gate)
9.) Ritsu Kasanoda (Ouran High School Host Club)
10.) Vaccine Man (One Punch Man)

Seriously getting him to voice Vaccine Man in One Punch Man's dub was a real treat, I kept saying how much he looks like Piccolo and that they should get one of his English voices for him, but I didn't think they would actually get Sabat. Thanks Viz, Bang Zoom & Chris Cason for making that possible.

It's also great we now have the dubs for both Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters and Dragon Ball Super now airing on Toonami. Sabat of course continues to do a great job with the Dragon Ball Franchise.

It was a real treat that I got to meet Christopher Sabat at the Canada Fan Expo back in August of last year, just after a month of meeting Scott McNeil (The Ocean dub Piccolo) at TFCon 2017 , I got to meet the Funimation dub Piccolo which made the perfect book end last summer for me, shame I didn't meet Toshio Furukawa, I would've been 3 for 3.

I usually don't get signed prints for autographs these days and I originally wasn't going to but when I saw the Kuwabara print, I was like. I so gotta get him to sign one with my favourite Kuwabara quote which is "I'm Kuwabara and in case you forgot, I got a sword" but to make i the real icing of the cake, when Sabat himself took a selfie of me and him, I had my autograph in my hand and that made the photo really unique and special. Of course both he and Sean Schemmel were there so getting to meet these two at the same con was pretty awesome.

Christopher Sabat's been going all out with the Dragon Ball Super dub, I mean the fact allow he got James Marsters to voice Zamasu was absolutely brilliant (and of course finally being redeemed in the eyes of the franchise after the disaster that was Dragon Ball Evolution) and getting Brian Drummond to come in and return to the franchise as the Copy Vegeta, also another brilliant idea. I was so unsure what they were gonna do with him but Chris can be very creative and resourceful with the casting of Super, which has helped made the more recent episodes really stand out. Even though the dub is still in the Goku Black arc, it's been coming along nicely and I really love how powerful the performances are. It gives me a lot of hope that when it comes to the Tournament of Power/Universe Survival Arc, we will still get a lot of unique and creative casting gags or casting choices.

*fingers crossed for Sabat getting more Ocean VA's to do cameo roles in the tournament*

I mean Scott McNeil could easily voice the Universe 6 Namekians and he has already voiced at Funimation before.

It's pretty cool that he go to voice Inferno Cop in the Space Patrol Luluco dub, making Chris Sabat one of the few English VA's much like Erica Mendez to voice two of the main Trigger anime protagonists. Hopefully at some point they will pick up the Inferno Cop anime and have him reprise the role.

I also like that he was cast as Keroberos in the Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card dub. I think he's a great middle ground compromise between both Richard Newman and Masaya Onosaka's renditions. Really makes me hope that eventually Funimation will get the rights to the original anime series someday in the near future.

and of course he continues to do a great job as All Might in My Hero Academia as always.

Happy Birthday Christopher Sabat!

Easily one of FUNimation's best voice actors. It's safe to say that Sabat's overall acting has definitely improved throughout the years and the amount of roles he's racked up over time is nothing short of awesome. His performances in the Dragon Ball series, Colonel Armstrong, Garterbelt, Zoro, Ninja Slayer himself, Ddraig, Kuwabara, Kikuchiyo, Garland, Kitz, Giroro, and Robert Capa are just great to listen to.

Even if he is a predictable casting choice for All Might in My Hero Academia, I do think Chris gets the hammy aspect of the character down pat and it's generally enjoyable so far.

I grew up hearing his voice from watching his Vegeta and Piccolo from Dragon Ball Z. I mean, come on, he among Funimation's earliest talent.

Noteworthy performances aside from the DBZ characters include Alex Louis Armstrong, Touya Kamijou, Ddraig / Boosted Gear, Garberbelt, Kazuma Kuwabara, Batou, Eibon, Roronoa Zoro, Daisuke Jigen, Goto Sasabe, Roy Revant, Maestro, and Ayame Sohma.

On top of having a large voice portfolio, he also has his own studio Okratron 5000, which currently is the recording studio for DBZ properties. Not only that, but it has helped further open up the Dallas voice pool to video games.

said at 4:07 AM on Thu Dec 3 2015
@HienFan Yeah, I wasn't very fond of the way he played Vegeta and Piccolo in the past because of how raspy they both were, to me it made them sound like wannabe tough guys as opposed to the proud warriors that they both naturally are.

With all that said the way he plays Vegeta and Piccolo now is perfect IMO and I couldn't imagine them sounding any other way.

Happy Birthday Christopher Sabat!

Perhaps the most well known and iconic voice actor in the entire FUNimation talent pool and it's hard not to see why? He was one of the first VA's they had employed back in the 90's and hasn't stopped since.

Chris's work on the Dragon Ball franchise alone is worth favouriting...come on he's Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha, Shenron, Porunga, Kami, Recoome....and sometimes Burter and Jeice. I know that's probably a bit too much but for the most part he makes it work...with that said Vegeta and Piccolo are easily his two best roles in the franchise.

Luckily that's not all he's done, he's also Alexander Louis Armstrong, Elfman Strauss, Ddraig/Boosted Gear, Eibon, Mr. Braun, Marlheit, Maestro and Zero/Judas. Essentially he's Rated M for Manly.

I also really enjoy his voice direction and I think its extremely fitting he does the Dragonball franchise, they could not have picked anyone else better to do it. His direction since DBZ Kai and on have been spot on and just incredible. Battle of Gods might have been his best work yet and I can't wait to see how he'll do Resurrection 'F' doubt he'll nail it.

He was also pretty good at voicing Raizen and Gama, the latter of which is a good example of his range.

I also liked his work as Ritsu Kasanoda, Toya Kamijo and Gregor Maximus.

Happy of Birthday Christopher Sabat! Without a doubt, one of FUNimation's best voice actors & ADR Directors.

Marvelous job as Vegeta, Piccolo, Yamcha, Zoro, Kuwabara, Elfman, Alex Armstrong, Shio Sakaki, Masa, Kikuchiyo, Giroro, Ritsu Kasanoda & the Narrator of Negima.

Is this guy JUST an anime voice actor? Because he is pretty awesome and it might not be a good idea to restrict him to just anime.
said at 12:52 PM on Wed Sep 3 2014
@IamOptimusPrime2020 The issue is that most cartoons and video games are recorded in California, and he lives in Texas. I agree that he's awesome and would probably do excellently in cartoons and video games, but not only does he get a fair amount of work with Funimation, he also owns and operates his own sound production company here in Texas, Okratron5000. So the chances of him up and leaving Texas to go to L.A. are pretty slim when he has plenty of work both from sound production and anime voice acting at Funimation.

I'd love to see him do other stuff, but I'm pretty sure he's said before that he's comfortable where he is.

@PsychicVoiceSpy Ok then, though the Ocean Group Voice Actors have a pretty good range. Just an example.

Happy birthday, Christopher Sabat! He is pretty much my favorite VA at Funimation. Anyone who can play dark and bitter characters like Vegeta and then turn right around and voice goofier, lovable characters like Sakaki, Kuwabara and Yamcha while still having plenty of range to spare definitely has my respect.

He used to be in everything, but while he still gets work, he's kinda scaled back some. I'd love to hear him voice another main character (he actually would've made a decent Space Dandy).

Because of the deep, almost intimidating sound of his voice I have to say he would make an incredible Batman.

My favorite non-DBZ role of his will always be Giroro in Sgt. Frog. Seriously, Sabat's voice is PERFECT for a drill sergeant character like that!

His range really was explored in DBZ. For years, I had no idea so many characters were voiced by the same person...

You sound like you have some personal problem with Mr. Sabat. Because you don't have very good facts.

1. Todd Haberkorn was the director for D. Grayman. Todd has said that FUNimation said he shouldn't do accents.

2. This makes no sense. It seems like he uses FUNimation's best actors. He probably is friends with them, but he probably knows more voice actors than anyone else, so all the actors are his friends. H

3. He's said at conventions that the only people he recasts are people who are not available or don't want to do the role any more. And really the only recasting it seems like he did was on Dragonaball Z Kai, and some of those original actors aren't even acting any more.

4. In interviews and at conventions, Chris is a funny, modest person who never really brags about anything, unless he's joking. The only time it looks like he hypes something is when FUNimation is hyping it, which means he has to do it.

Your entire comment sounds suspicious to me, especially because you are "anonymous". Are you a bad actor or something that Chris doesn't like or something? Probly.

Anyway, the one thing you were right about was how good he was on Vegeta, Zoro and Armstrong.

Sabat played Nappa for the original release of Bardock-The Father of Goku and some flashbacks in the show. But Phil Parsons redubbed Nappa's lines in Bardock for the remastered DVD release.
