Yu Yu Hakusho Yu Yu Hakusho

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Botan with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Yu Yu Hakusho

I figured we could start the Yu Yu Hakusho VC with the female protagonist: Botan. She is also known as the Grim Reaper and helps the dead pass into the after life. Even though she is thousands of years old, she maintains a young body.

For the English dub of the first YYH movie (The Golden Seal) produced by Media Blasters (AKA Anime Works), Botan was voiced by LA VA, Lia Sargent.

For the English dub of the TV series of YYH produced by Funimation Productions, Botan was voiced by Dallas VA, Cynthia Cranz, who gave the character a very light accent.

For the English dub of the second (and much more epic) YYH movie (Poltergeist Report) produced by Central Park Media, Botan was voiced by New York VA, Veronica Taylor.

Cynthia Cranz. The accent just works for no reason and she's funny and whimsical.

I guess my favorite is Cynthia, even though I don't understand why she has an accent.

@8000 Saiyans I think it's meant to add to her Whimsical and Spirited Personality

Lia Sargent's good, but I was hoping her LA actor would've been Dorothy Fahn. C'mon, tell me that wouldn't have been perfect!

1. Cynthia Cranz:

She has the most energy and spunk in her performance, and the Irish accent actually adds a nice tough in making her take sound very unique as well as standing out from the other characters in the dub of the Series. I've always thought her Botan is far more natural sounding than her Chi Chi is, to be honest.

2. Veronica Taylor:

Too squeaky when shouting, but does really well with the softer moments in the middle of that clip. She's pretty good as a whole, though.

3. Lia Sargent:

Sounds a bit old and stuffy at points with her voice, but her acting is pretty solid and she has the energy down.

4. Sarah Hauser:

The voice fits, but her acting is incredibly stiff and falls pretty flat at times.

I loved Cynthia Cranz as Botan, this is easily my favourite role of hers. She has an Irish accent, why I don't know but for some reason it's rather fitting and it gives Botan more charm.

Veronica Taylor is also rather fitting as Botan. I think of she had got to voice her in the main anime series, she could have been just as great, maybe even better than Cranz? As is she's a close second.

Lia Sargent is rather solid too all things considered, she too could have worked in the main anime series.

Sarah Hauser is really the only dud here, the voice is fine but the that's too flat.

I'm going to go with Cynthia but surprisingly I like Veronica and Lia too.

Cynthia was an excellent fit, sounding caring and distinct.

Veronica sounds like a higher pitched Delia Ketchum: it's good, but not as fitting.

Lia sounds too old to me.

Sarah has a good voice, but her acting is very flat.

#1: Cynthia Cranz/Veronica Taylor - Can't decide between these two.
#3: Lia Sargent - Alright. Not her best role, though.
#4: Sarah Hauser - Good voice, but the acting leaves much to be desired.

Cynthia was excellent as Botan. I didn't mind the British Accent at all: I thought it added to her character as far as the dub goes.

Veronica Taylor has potential, but isn't as vibrant or enthusiastic as Cynthia was in the role. She's my second favorite.

Lia Sargent is okay, but she suffered under the direction in that dub.

Sarah Hauser's voice is good, but her delivery was terribly flat.

Cynthia Craz captures Botan the best. Veronica Taylor is great too, and Lia Sargent sounds like she could've done it wonderfully under better direction. Sarah Hauser just has terrible delivery. Like, no real emotion behind her reads at all.

Cynthia Cranz is the only actress here that does Botan justice, and for once a bit of an accent really works... unlike two certain characters they decided to make Irish and Australian.
