Solomon Muto

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Solomon Muto with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Yu-Gi-Oh!

Solomon Muto AKA Sugoroku Mutou in the original Japanese anime and manga, is the grandfather of Yugi Muto. It was Solomon who gave his grandson the Millennium Puzzle; since he discovered it on an expedition in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt when he was a young man. Solomon currently owns a game shop and is the only person in the world to own a Blue-Eyes White Dragon card besides Seto Kaiba.

In the English dub version of the anime by 4Kids Entertainment, Solomon was voiced by Maddie Blaustein. In episode 199 in a flashback a younger Solomon Muto was voiced by Marc Diraison.

In a lesser known English dub by Odex Ltd Solomon was voiced by Chuck Powers.

For the English dub of Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Beyonds Beyond Time, the character is voiced-matched by Wayne Grayson to the late Maddie Blaustien.

Y'know, it's amazing how a female voice actor could pull off a voice like that. Maddie really showed both Solomon's caring and funny sides and she actually sounded real too. One of the best voices of the 4Kids dub.

Wayne's a great soundalike though he is a little more deeper than Maddie.

Marc was awesome as the younger version of him. Hard to believe that Guts is really Solomon in disguise.

As for Chuck... good lord, dear lord... that voice.

"Bakura, Bakura, hey Bakura!"

That explains everything wrong with the Odex dub. He doesn't sound like he should be running a card shop, he should be at a rodeo trying to lasso a horse or something. Not to mention he sounds constipated and a little annoying too.

Maddie and Marc made Solomon sound exactly like how a character should be crafted by sounding alike and aging to hear nearly the same with an older voice.

Wayne is close but still manages to keep some of Maddie's original around.

Chuck I hate that voice in old men it is just truly cliche and I don't like that accent.

1. Maddie Blaustein
She sounded very natural and like a real grandfather. She nailed both his funny moments and his more serious ones. I remember getting mind-blown when I learnt that she voiced both Meowth and Grandpa Muto.
2. Wayne Grayson
Sadly Maddie is no longer with us, but Wayne Grayson is a decent replacement. He sounds like Maddie, albeit slightly deeper.
3. Marc Diraison
Excellent performance as a young Solomon Muto. He definitely sounds like a younger version of Maddie's character.
4. Chuck Powers
Easily one of the worst voices in the Odex dub. He sounds constipated and forced and lacks the charm the three other actors had.

Maddie Blaustein is easily the best. Although Waynw Grayson does do a VERY good impression imitation of Maddie's voice, and Marc does a great job with the younger version of the character!

Chuck Powers... Sounds like he's having a lot of fun doing what he's doing. Can't take that away from him I suppose.

Maddie Blaustein is my favorite. Natural-sounding, age-appropriate, and a lot of fun.

Marc's voice is perfect for a younger version of the character, and is just an awesome voice to listen to in general. It's impressive how it goes well with Maddie's take. It even reminds me a bit of Dan Green's Atem! Hearing it, I can see where Atem's deep voice comes from.

As usual, Wayne Grayson impresses with yet another voice I didn't realize he had in him. His range is unbelievable! He's the perfect replacement since Maddie is no longer able to play the part. (may she R.I.P.)

Chuck's performance is too stereotypical, and the choice of accent is extremely random as well. It sounds like the kind of thing you'd hear from an Abridged series, or one of 4Kids worse dubs.

1. Maddie Blaustein:

She does the most authentic elderly man voice of the group. RIP, she was a great talent taken too soon from us.

2. Marc Diraison:

He does the best young version of the character, and contrasts with Maddie Blaustein's version very well.

3. Wayne Grayson:

He is a pretty good voice match to Maddie Blaustein, but he has moments where his delivery gets a bit flat.

4. Chuck Powers:

He sounds like a stereotype of an elderly cowboy at the rodeo trying to lasso something. This is really a miscast.

@WrightWay Judging by the Sneak previews of the English Dub for ' The Dark Side Of Dimensions', I actually think Wayne Grayson's Impersonation of Maddie Blaustein has improved quite a bit ( at least from the footage I've heard).

I still feel it's pretty forced in comparison to the other two, but at least Wayne Grayson is putting a genuine effort forth in his performance, so I respect that much.

Solomon Muto is another great example of the killer range the late Maddie Blaustein was truly capable of, I mean would you ever believe in a million years that Meowth and Yugi's Grandpa were voiced by the same person? She sounds truly convincing in the role bringing a lot of age, wisdom and humour to the role. It's such a shame she passed away back in 2008, I would have loved her to come back for the new movie.

Wayne Grayson is a pretty solid voice match for Maddie as Solomon. I mean he's not perfect and doesn't quite 100% nail it but it's a very surprising casting choice and example of his range. I'm sure he'll most likely voice Solomon in the new movie if the character appears in it and hopefully by then he'll improve or perfect this impression and not only be able to carry on Maddie's spirit but also make the character his own.

Marc Diraison sounds epic as a younger Solomon. I kinda wish he'd be able to voice the older version of the character, add a bit of age but not too crotchety and maybe he'd nail him too.

Chuck Powers sounds like an old senile hick, he doesn't sound at all like he should be running a card shop, he should be sent to the old folks home.

The late Maddie Blaustein is truly impressive as Yugi's Grandpa and she has my vote though Marc and Wayne also impressed me in the role too.

Maddie Blaustein did an incredibly convincing old man voice, have to say, props to her, and may she R.I.P.

Marc Diraison did an excellent job of sounding like a younger version of the character.

Wayne Grayson was OK, but something about his delivery sounded pretty forced to me there.

Chuck Powers is just horrendous, honestly, he sounds like a bad stereotype of an old cowboy that's gone senile.

Good God! Maddie pulls a very convincing grandfather voice! Wise, emotional, a little silly at certain points & generally a great performance! Marc Diraison was equally as great for young Solomon. Wayne Grayson was okay. The man who gave Joey his Brooklyn voice did decently as our Mr Moto, but something was missing. And Chuck Powers... well, do you remember Phelous's running gag character Crazy Old Man in his Beauty and the Beast reviews? Well, add "stereotypical cowboy" to that and you got Chuck's take.

#1: TIE! Maddie Blaustien and Marc Diraison.
#2: Wayne Grayson.
#3: Chuck Powers.

Maddie was definitely my favorite voice actor for Solomon Muto here I couldn't even tell that the voice I was listening to was from a girl! She's very good

@Anime in Love" I couldn't even tell that the voice I was listening to was from a girl" It's a bit more complicated than that Maddie, was originally Adam and was transgendered.

Maddie Blaustein is definitely the best for this character: she made him sound just like a wise grandfather, and gave Solomon a lot of character: "If you only remember one thing, Yugi, remember this..."

Marc Diraison works quite well for a younger version of the character.

Wayne Grayson does a pretty good imitation of Maddie, though something about his delivery is off to me.

Yeah, Chuck Powers really is the only stinker here-- he sounds ridiculously silly in this role: the Southern Accent is completely unfitting in this particular instance for the character.

Really, Chuck Powers is the only stinker here. Blaustein is the perfect Solomon, Marc Diraison was an awesome young Solomon, and Wayne Grayson does a surprisingly dead on stand-in performance.

I would have to say Maddie Blaustein is classic in this role and the best fit for Solomon Muto (aka Moto in the dub). She demonstrated broad range here and it's pretty impressive that she could go from a character as high-pitched as Meowth to one as low and as seasoned/weathered as Solomon Moto. Yet again, an excellent example of Blaustein's talent as an actor.

Chuck Powers is absolutely godawful in this role. He sounds like a, pardon me if this is offensive to those of you in the Southern part of the US, Southern cowboy who's trying to lasso his friends at the rodeo. He's a huge miscast here. I noticed he has this accent problem with Bakura as well.

Marc Diraison works best for the younger version of the character and was well cast in this role. Lastly, Wayne Grayson was an excellent voice match for Maddie Blaustein, but his delivery was a tad weak.

What I look for in voice actors: Being UNABLE to put their character voice with their face. If they can alter their voice in a way that makes it SEEM impossible to come out of them, then I generally like it. Take Maddie Blaustein for instance. Didn't...See...That...Coming.

@MidnightRose I think it's because Maddie used to be a guy that she can pull off masculine voices.
said at 11:14 PM on Mon Feb 1 2016

That's not how transness works, it's more like she used to have more masculine features.

1. Maddie Blaustein. Excellent at making Solomon sound old and friendly, good example of her range. R.I.P.

2. Wayne Grayson. A surprisingly good voice match, what range!

3. Marc Diraison. Great younger version of Solomon! With some good voice acting. :)

4. Chuck Powers. Someone from Texas: that's all I hear from him. Really though, can't he take his job seriously?! :/
