Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Goban with sound clips and images.
Goban is one of the protagonists of the Ys Action RPG series as he appears later on in both of the 1st two Ys games. Goban is known as a Bandit however he is clearly one of the good guys as he is the owner of the Thieves Den that has the entrance to Darm Tower but will only let you through if you have the Silver Equipment. Goban is one of the descendants of the Legendary Priests of Ys and he also shows up for support later on in Ys II as well. Goban's last name slightly differs when it comes to translations as it is either Toba or Tovah.

EDITOR'S OPINION

Today on the Ys Voice Compare section we have a little something for this Bandit who is none other than GOBAN! We shall start things off with the TurboGrafx CD classic Ys Book I & II in which Goban was voiced by Thomas Haden Church. Yes nowadays the idea of Thomas Haden Church being in a game especially an older one does sound fairly amazing however keep in mind when this game was first released over a couple of decades ago it was very early in Thomas Haden Church's career. However Thomas' voice & performance does fit the role pretty well, granted Goban didn't have all that many voice acted lines in the game but Thomas did rather well for what little he got for the game here. So in other words Thomas' performance as Goban is another good example of the voice work of that game.

Now for the English release of the Anime based off of the first (and second) game in the Ys series from Media Blasters we have Doug Stone taking over the role of Goban here. Doug plays the role of Goban a bit differently from what Thomas did (though to be fair Goban is depicted a bit differently here in the anime) Doug's performance as Goban still does work for the role. Doug's performance does have a warm and caring feel (especially for Goban's dear cousin Fortuneteller Sarah) as Doug's performance does have a fairly natural flow and is a good example of the voice work in the dub. Overall I am not entirely sure who to pick as both of these guys played the role well in their own ways.
