Shion Uzuki

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Shion Uzuki with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Xenosaga

Shion Uzuki is the one of the main protagonists of the Xenosaga series whom has been around in the Xenosaga series since the first game. Shion is a prominent scientist and researcher for Vector Industries that is serving aboard the Galaxy Federation vessel the Woglinde. Shion's primary mission on the ship is to be the head of the KOS MOS project in which KOS MOS is a Anti-Gnossis Attack Android in which Shion and KOS MOS have a very close relationship with each-other. Shion is normally a friendly calm-mannered young lady but she is capable of holding grudges against certain people considering her troubled past but she is normally friendly to people (though she can be oblivious to certain things such as Allan Ridgeley's unrequited crush on her).

Today we begin the Xenosaga VC section and I figured who better to start things off than none other than SHION UZUKI! In the original (and third) Xenosaga game Shion was voiced by Lia Sargent whom I must say was a perfectly natural casting choice for this role here. While Lia is known for doing cute voices well before and this is no exception but her voice and performance for the role is a great mix of cute and intellectual. Lia's performance for the role did sound calm, intellectual and yet endearingly sweet as well. Lia's work as Shion is a fine example of her work and one of the better performances in the game series.

In the 2nd Xenosaga game Olivia Hack did get to take over the role here and while her work is not as good as Lia's it certainly wasn't bad though. The quality of Olivia's is somewhat inconsistent as her performance in certain scenes was very good in some scenes but is pretty okay in others though. Olivia's voice work for the role does pretty well with sounding cute but as for intellectual well her work as Shion sounds a bit more "normal" than anything else. Now don't get me wrong I am not saying that Olivia makes Shion sound stupid but still however to be fair I did like on how Olivia was able to do a dramatic performance well in some of Shion's mroe serious scenes. So in other words while Olivia's work on the role is pretty good especially by its own merits but its not one of the better performances in the game series.

In ADV's dub of the Xenosaga anime (now distributed by FUNimation) Stephanie Wittels gets to take over the role here. Stephanie's voice and performance for the role is pretty good when it comes to how cute Shion is but Stephanie did a very good job playing up how intellectual Shion is. Seriously while Stephanie's voice for the role is pretty good her performance definitely suited Shion's friendly and intellectual persona very well and is a pretty good example of the voice work in the English dub of the Anime. Overall I am clearly going with Lia Sargent first, Stephanie Wittels at a close second and Olivia Hack at an okay third.

Lia was fantastic, Stephanie's a good soundalike and Olivia sounded obnoxious in the role.

Lia for me.

I'm going to give this to Lia. However, I have always felt that Stephanie Sheh would be the perfect Shinon.

Lia's the best and probably my favorite role from her.

Wittels was spot on. Too bad the anime was a waste of time.

Olivia's take was No wonder II is the unloved middle child of the trilogy, among other things in that game.

I am going with Lia Sargent. I felt she managed to show both her sweet side and intellectual side very well in episode I and as unlikable as she was in episode III she gave a very emotional performance that made you feel she truely was in pain so she was perfect IMO. I actually haven't seen to much of the anime but assuming its just based on episode I which I believe it is Stephanie Wittels judging by the clip also does a very nice job and I actually would tie her with Lia but unfortunately (and again this is just a guess) she doesn't get to portray how Shion changes throughout the series due to the anime not going far but despite that I'm sure she could do well if the anime went on and showed Shions changes. And now for Olivia Hack... OK seriously Namco?! Terrible performance not only does she sound like a teenage brat but when she has a emotional scene she gives a very cringe worthy scream, everytime she speaks I cringe and she made Shion sound more unlikable then she really was in episode II so definitely one of the worst performances in episode II.

Going with Lia Sargent. I find this to be one of her best roles besides Chun-Li and Dorothy.

It has to be Ms. Sargent. She made me love Shion in Episode 1 and even during the really painful parts of Episode 3, she made me feel for Shion. She can do everything and perfectly captures the character.
