VC thoughts update

John Stephenson really nails the warm and fatherly personality of Xavier perfectly. He does sound like the exact opposite of Magneto and he has great chemistry with the rest of the cast members. A great fit for the X-Men's mentor.

Stan Jones is a rather solid early take on the character. He does sound pretty warm and kind and he also sounds quite wise.

Cedric Smith also nailed the role in the 90's X-Men cartoon. His performance is really solid and he really manages to showcase a lot of Xavier's traits. I also like the fact that they made Xavier a little bit more prone to making mistakes and feeling regret about them, which made Cedric deliver really emotional performances.

Jim Ward also works rather well in the role. He does sound pretty wise and warm in the role.

James Arnold Taylor works perfectly for the Lego version. He does seem to be having fun in the role.

I also enjoyed Kyle Hebert, David Kaye, Daran Norris, Patrick Stewart, Tom Kane, Dan Green and Ron Halder in the role.

The UVA and Cam Clarke leave little impression on me.

Here are my Top Five Favourite Voices for Professor Xavier:

5. John Stephenson/ Daran Norris
4. Dan Green
3. Jim Ward
2. Cam Clarke/ David Kaye
1. Sir Patrick Stewart

Future VA Suggestions:

I think Viggo Mortensen would Excellent as Professor X. I imagine him doing a similar voice to his Aragorn, producing an intelligent and sensitive portrayal of the X-Men's Mentor.

I also think S. Scott Bullock would be very good as well, doing a softer version of his Galenth Dysley voice from Final Fantasy 13.

I also recommend Daniel Riordan, Michael McConnohie, Nathaniel Parker and Julian Sands.

Sir Patrick Stewart really defined and also redefined the role of Professor Charles Xavier. He was a perfect casting choice in the live-action X-Men movies. So perfect that we all ignored the fact that Xavier isn't from England but instead New York. Stewart just has that wise old likeable charm for a kindly mentor figure like Xavier. Seriously I find it hard to now imagine Xavier's portrayal not being based on inspired by Patrick Stewart.

David Kaye is easily my second favourite or favourite non-Stewart Xavier. It's such a refreshing change of pace from his usual roles of villains like Megatron who his Xavier voice is basically a lighter and more heroic version of. He gets the kindly wise hopeful for a better tomorrow aspect perfectly. It's definitely one of my favourite castings in Evolution and one of my favourite roles by my favourite VA.

Daran Norris and Dan Green both do flawless Patrick Stewart impressions, I'm very impressed with their takes on the role.

Cam Clarke I also really liked as Xavier in the X-Men, not entirely based on Stewart but he definitely makes Xavier his own character which is nice.

Cedric Smith is the voice that captured Xavier best before Stewart came in. At first I was a little weirded out at just how different he sounded but at the same time I found his take and performance refreshing and also extremely fitting.

John Stephenson was also really good in the role, he gets the wise kindly aspect of Xavier down nicely much like the others.

James Arnold Taylor's impression is good too but he sounds maybe a bit too young and light kinda like his Magneto. I prefer his Magneto slightly more since I'm more used to him

Tom Kane and Ron Halder are serviceable but fall into the same trap of JAT where they also did Magneto but I definitely prefer them as Magneto.

Jim Ward I really don't like as Xavier, he sounds way too posh for my liking. He was a lot better as The Sentinels though.

Stan Jones is way too deep for my liking.

Kyle Hebert and the UVA work for the game they're voicing for. Kyle could maybe work as Xavier playing a more traditional version of the character, the UVA not so much.

Overall I'm giving my vote to Sir Patrick Stewart because whenever I think of Xavier, I think of him the most, though David Kaye is also fantastic too.

BONUS: You know Patrick's Star Trek TNG co-star Brent Spiner can do a flawless impression of him and not only that but he also was The Purple Man as was Cedric Smith so it got me thinking....Brent Spiner as Professor X anyone?
said at 10:50 AM on Sun Jun 5 2016
@Autovolt James Arnold Taylor as Magneto sounded fairly deep, IMO. His Professor X I'd see a bit light, but Magneto is really accurate I feel.

Also worth pointing out he's one of the few to have played both.

Patrick Stewart is my favourite no matter who else voices Xavier. David, Jim, Tom & Dan did prefect impressions of him.

John didn't sound like Patrick at all (mainly because the X Men films didn't exist in those days) though his voice as Xavier was good & memorable. Daran sounds quite like Patrick and is off sometimes but he really made the role.

Cedric doesn't sound like a wise professor & therefore was a miscast in my opinion.

Stan was too deep.
The Unknown Voice Actor & Kyle were way too young for an old man.
Ron was way too soft in the voice.

Cam is a hard one. It sounds good but I ask myself "Does that voice suit or fit Xavier?"

 1 Shout Out!
Cedric Smith- He feels a bit miscast here, his voice sounds too raspy.
David Kaye- I like it, he sounds a little too young, but it's very caring and authoritative.
Jim Ward- He's a little too high pitched for me, something about it feels a little off. It's been a while since I watched the show, but I remembered him sounding better than in the clip.
John Stephenson- Nothing special really, feels too deep and generic.
Patrick Stewart- Awesome as always, but he sounded better in the movies, he feels the most natural and has an incredibly awesome commanding tone.
Stan Jones-Same as John Stephenson.
Tom Kane- He's just impersonating Patrick Stewart, but it's a good performance on its own.
Dan Green- Really good, his accent is flawless and the deep voice suits him. He should reprise his role.
UVA- Meh, nothing special.
Kyle Hebert-Same as above, but he sounds too young.
Cam Clarke- Really good, I would like to see him voice xavier again.
Ron Halder- Something about the accent feels a little off, but I think he deserves another chance to prove himself.
Darran Norris- I didn't think he had the range to impersonate Patrick Stewart, I'm impressed.

It's a four-way tie between David Kaye, Patrick Stewart, Dan Green, and Cam Clarke for me.

@chaosincarnate James Arnold Taylor- Another good Xavier voice, it sounds like a younger Patrick Stewart. I prefer his Magneto voice, but he's one of the better Xavier VA's.

I pretty much like David Kaye and Patrick Stewart equally. Patrick sounds a bit more commanding and wise, also a little older, and David Kaye sounds a bit younger and more gentle. They're both awesome in the role.

Tom Kane does a great impression, and Dan Green does pretty well too.

Jim Ward also does a solid job, but I don't like his accent that much for some reason.

Finally, I want to give a shout out to Daran Norris for having such huge range and being able to do such a decent impression of Patrick Stewart even if it's not one of the better ones. Considering how many characters he voiced in those two Spider-Man games and was still able to do this... well, I consider that quite an impressive feat.

Cedric Smith- Not bad, it was caring and intelligent but maybe a bit too high. Also, unless this is a bad clip, his delivery seems off.

David Kaye- Very good example of his work. Very fatherly, warm and caring while being very intelligent without going overbroad. His voice was very soft but did fit more dramtic moments along with lighter ones.

Jim Ward- the accent bothers me, it just feels wrong for the character. It's still feels smart yet caring but the accent feels wrong.

John Stephenson- It's not bad but maybe should have been less raspy but it's still alright not great but not bad.

Patrick Stewart- He was better in the movies, he sounds too light and his delivery sounds off. Live action wise he's great with sounding caring, inteillgent but can go very dramtic without going over the top.

Stan Jones- a bit over the top and the performance seems stiff.

Tom Kane- A really good example of his work. Like Kaye he gives a deep voice that sounds intelligent and caring plus strong and serious.

Dan Green- I'd like to hear more but it sounds like it's a deep (but not too deep voice) while sounding caring and fatherly. I like it.

Unknown- Sounds all wrong for Xavier while being over the top and hammy.

Kayle Herbert- I can't really judge, it doesn't sound horrible but I'd need to hear more.

Cam Clarke- Not bad, a bit light and maybe a bit stiff at times but it's still good.

Ron Halder- Not bad, would need to hear more.

Daran Norris- Lag makes it hard to judge but it sounds good and I could see him doing Xavier in other media.

In the end I like David Kaye and Tom Kane the most

I've watched the X-men movies, and when I heard the voice clip I have to say: Patrick Stewart IS Charles Xavier, no question.

I also really liked David Kaye, Jim Ward and Ron Halder.

Normally I like Tom Kane especially roles like this but here he's just using the same British voice he uses for a lot of characters: e.g. Narrator and Admiral Yularen from Star Wars The Clone Wars, and even Magneto.

Stephenson gets my vote. The others sounds too familiar to normal a voice ( Clarke, Hebert ) but every other person is doing a patrick stewart impression! While Patrick Stewart did a good job as Professor X he is now considered the go to description for him. Stephenson did the voice before this was started so thats why his sounds the most unique. Either that or he is making up for the jonny quest episodes he didn't get to voice in.... yep thats obscure...

#1 Patrick Stewart
I think most X-Men fans can come to an agreement here. Simply put, Patrick was born for this role. Looks, voice, acting, he's got it all.

#2 David Kaye/Jim Ward/Dan Green
All three of these voice actors emulated Patrick Stewart perfectly! They sounded so similar that you most likely wouldn't have guessed that it wasn't actually Patrick himself in those cases! Either way, all three of them are very talented and can easily dub Xavier's voice in the live-action movies should the need ever arise.

#3 Stan Jones
He was a great predecessor to anyone else who would take on the role of Xavier in the future, and laid the groundwork quite firmly. Even though the voice acting in animated TV shows didn't have today's high standards his performance delivered the role very nicely.

#4 John Stephenson
Worked off of Stan's quite well, but the raspiness lowers the quality.

#5 Cedric Smith
I do respect that he took a different approach to the character, making his the most unique, but the change makes it quite jarring to listen to. A good voice indeed, but he sounds too sinister for Xavier.

#6 Tom Kane
As always, his voice is great, but he fits Magneto a lot better.

#7 Kyle Hebert
Not much to say about a couple of short phrases, but I suppose he's decent and could have the potential for a bigger role as Xavier.
