Today on the X Men VC section in honor of Valentines Day we have the love interest of Cyclops and Wolverine... JEAN GREY! Due to how enormous this VC is I shall make my review short on how I liked Catherine Disher, Venus Terzo and Leigh Allyn Baker the best. While I do admit that I would deem Jennifer Hale, Jenette Goldstein and surprisingly enough Hynden Walch in second place as while the others are not really bad but I would deem them in 3rd place though.

I voted for Jennifer since she's got power in her delivery. Too bad Jean was used as a mere plot device for Scott to be all angsty in WATX and the X-men anime. Jennifer does shine in the role in MVC3

Venus and Catherine's takes were also quite memorable in their own right as well.

I like Venus Terzo best honestly. She sounds young but also wise and mature for her age and no doubt would be perfect as an older version of the character. The only downside is that she never got to do The Dark Phoenix story line which is Jean's defining story. I would love for her to reprise the role again someday.

Jennifer Hale is a close second. Wolverine and the X-Men didn't do Jean well since she was MIA for most of the show and when they found her she was amnesic still Hale is a natural fit for the role, she was so much better in MVC3 where she really got to shine in the role.

April Stewart would be third, she too is a natural fit, she just needs more time in the role.

Catherine Disher's performance as Jean is classic too. She could be caring and nurturing while still pulling off some nice snark for the role.

Laura Bailey is also a really natural fit for Jean too, she sounds mature yet cute sounding. I really would love for her to voice Jean again in the future.

Hynden Walch works for the SHSS version but if she were to voice a traditional Jean, she'd be very miscast. I don't really like her as the token cheerleader character. Tara Strong is a slight step up from Hynden since Tara could work as a traditional Jean but nothing too remarkable either.

Leigh Allyn Baker is a decent fit for Jean though she's not as interesting sounding IMO as some of the others I mentioned before.

Eva Kaminsky really doesn't work for me, I know she's basically voicing a ghost haunting Scott, but the voice is just all wrong for the role. also is it just me or does she sound a lot like Karen Strassman.

Sarah Waits sounds way too angry, I'm guessing she's gone full Dark Pheonix but still I'm not really fond of her performance.

Jenette Goldstein, Molly Hagan and Katherine Morgan are boring and generic.

Vote goes to Venus Terzo.

BONUS: For some reason I think Courtnee Draper (Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite) could make for an excellent Jean Grey. I could also see Grey DeLisle-Griffin, Karen Strassman or Caitlin Glass being great as Jean.

I prefer Catherine Disher. I always liked how she played out the tragic aspect of Phoenix.

I also think Jennifer ale is great too. Particularly in MvC3, balancing out Jean Grey's uneasiness about her dark side, while appropriately sounding dark and twisted as Dark Phoenix.

1- Jennifer Hale: She's got the most power to her voice and I can definitely see her holding her own.
2-April Stewart- It's grown on me, I prefer her as Ms Marvel but she fits the Adult Jean great and sounds experienced enough.
3- Molly Hagan- She would be in first place if it weren't for her really bad banter lines. She does a good job with Jean's conversations, though.
4- Venus Terzo- The best younger Jean voice, and I think she could go deeper and do an older Jean well.
5-Leigh Allyn Baker- Too subdued, but she can act well enough.
6- Laura Bailey- Good, but I think she's a little too high pitched and would do better as Kitty Pryde or Pixie.
7-Jenette Goldstein- Adequate, but she sounds a little generic.
8-Catherine Disher- Over rated, she sounds too frail and shrill. I think if she sounded more like her Jill Vallentine voice in Resident Evil 3 she would be much higher.
9-Eva Kaminsky- Eva unfortunately doesn't have a lot to work with here as she's playing a demented vision taunting Cyclops but she does well enough with the version she's voicing.
10-Hynden Walch- Pretty cute, but it doesn't fit any version of Jean at all.
11- Tara Strong- Her placement is pretty interchangeable with Hynden's, it's a little less high pitched but feels more generic.
12-Sarah Waits- That's some really forced acting from her.
13- Katherine Morgan- Unfortunately has virtually nothing to work with so she's at the bottom.

@chaosincarnate I love Jennifer Hale and wish I could rank her as highly as you do for Jean but she wasn't given nearly enough to do in the role to really cement her place in the pantheon of Jean Grey actresses.

@BurtLancaster1913 I don't know, her performance in Marvel vs Capcom 3 felt a bit more like the traditional version of the character, even though she obviously didn't get the best material in that.

...I've gotta give it a tie between Jennifer Hale, Venus Tarzo and Laura Bailey. Laura's actually surprised me with how well she fits the character--it sounds soft and motherly, but keeps the right amount of spunk needed.

Would love to hear her reprise the character in a future X-Men series!

This is one of the few where, despite the vast differences in vocal styles, the voices are all a great match for the character as they were being portrayed. It's too hard to pick a favorite. Jennifer Hale is my usual go-to pick, as she's one of my favorite actresses, and, as with everything else she's done, she's brilliant here. But I also grew up with Catherine Disher, and then Venus Terzo, and they fit their versions just as well, and are just as linked to their characters for me. Either of those three would be my pick.

Laura is actually my new favorite, she has a caring feel to her voice but has a good "feisty" attitude to go with it.

@VctrBnsn Tara is trying to sound like Hynden, and does a solid impression. But in the end, a 5.9. I think I'll give April a 7.8.

I went with Leigh Allyn Baker on this one.

I like Catherine's vocal style here, but I like Leigh's younger sounding voice more which is paired pretty well with that same style (I actually like the overall cast of the first x-men legends game a lot).

Jennifer also did okay, but I'm not a big fan of her more raspy voice for Jean, at least non phoenix Jean, and even as the phoenix i just find her so-so. Her voice was much more fitting as ms. marvel.

I grew up with the warm, compassionate voice of Catherine Disher but she often got lumbered with having to moan in agony whenever the writers had Jean's power backfire on her (which happened way too often). Jennifer Hale is a great VA but she didn't have nearly enough screen time/material to really make the part her own. While the other actresses are fine I voted Venus Terzo best overall for her combination of compassion and fiery strength.

Catherine and Jennifer are the ones I like the best but I might give the edge to Catherine on this one because she's the original and sounded more strong willed but Jennifer was still quite good.

Jennifer Hale nails the voice I hear in my head for Jean Grey when I read comics, so she's my favorite, but a lot of the tohers are pretty good, too.

I still think Hale is better, but April Stewart was also good.

Catherine Disher by far. Everytime Jean Grey is in a X-Men comic book that I read, I hear her voice. Her voice always displayed the strong will and perserverence of Jean while retaining her femininity at the same time.
