Well folks we'll be starting off Voltron's VC category with Princess Allura's father the late King Alfor (which needless to say is why both voices have reverberating voice effects applied to them).

In the original series' English dub he was voiced by voice actor Peter Cullen. In which while not as deep as his Optimus Prime voice (which is something he saved for when he did the narration for the show) it maybe his Coran voice only a little bit deeper but it still works. Peter did give Alfor a nice regal yet fatherly tone that did suit the role well.

In Voltron the 3rd Dimension he was voiced by Tim Curry whom pretty much did something like his Lotor voice but only friendlier and a little bit older. (Which is one of the reasons why I kind of have mixed feelings about Tim Curry voicing Lotor but that's for a future VC.) But still like Peter Cullen, Tim also gave Alfor a nice regal and fatherly tone and performance as well that was by all means suitable. While King Alfor only appeared briefly in both series' so both actors didn't get the chance to do the role more often.

But while neither performance is the best example of both actor's careers and that their voices had little differences to one of their other roles in their respective shows both of these actors did do a suitable job for King Alfor.

(Update: Sam Vincent took over the role in Voltron Force and its a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand Sam's highly high voice did seem a bit jarring at first considering on how Alfor generally had a lower voice in the past. But to be fair Sam's performance had a good regal, kindly yet authoritative feel to it. So in other words while I still do prefer Peter & Tim more but Sam does make a pretty good younger Alfor though.)

Peter Cullen is the perfect choice if you want a character that it is a mentor/father figure with a mystical voice and that serve as basically the Yoda/Obi-Wan. I always thought that he's the perfect sensei. His voice as Alfor is quite distinctive, he doesn't sound at all like Optimus Prime and it's a good thing as he shows how versatile he is (plus he already used that voice to narrate the show). He is the best.

Tim Curry is a superb voice actor/god but years and years specializing himself in Villain Roles had his effects. His voice is more suited for a villain rather than a heroic figure.

Keith and Sam are very good but neither of them match Peter's mystical voice.

Listening to Cullen here makes me wish he went back to the more sage like voice like his earlier Optimus Prime performance. Music Meister makes a good point, he does sound a bit like Jim Cummings.

Keith Ferguson is very good in this role.

Tim's clip is pretty short but it's decent.

Not feeling Sam Vincent at all in this role.

Peter Cullen is great as King Alfor I mean you have Optimus Prime as their mentor

Although I voted for Keith because when I first heard King Alfor spoke i thought it was Tom Kane but when I looked it up it showed it was Keith and dang does he have range

Tim Curry was OK

And although Sam sounded a bit lite he makes up for it with his performance

All sound good, but I'm going with Peter Cullen. I wish that Tim's clip was longer. The description said he didn't have much to say, though. It's nice to hear Tim as a good guy, but when I hear him I almost always think of villains.

But seriously, I think all three of the VAs work. Peter has that nice sage-like voice similar to his earlier Optimus voice. Tim's voice is just naturally a good fit for these kinds of characters. And Sam's voice is a good fit for a younger King Alfor.

I think I'm gonna' go with Peter on this one.

When I see Peter Cullen in a voice compare: "Pfft. Peter's gonna' take this one for sure"

When I see Tim Curry in a voice compare: "Pfft. Tim's gonna' take this one for sure"

When I see Tim and Peter in a voice compare TOGETHER:

Peter sounds like Jim Cummings at times

@Music Meister That's because they were usually cast to reprise one of the other's roles during the 80s-90s

Peter's sounds more unique. Tim Curry is just doing King Acorn all over again.
