Meryl Stryfe

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Meryl Stryfe with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Trigun

Meryl Stryfe is one of the main protagonists in the Trigun series whom made her debut in the first episode of the series. Meryl Stryfe is an agent of the Bernadelli Insurance Agency sent to evaluate the claims regarding the infamous "Humanoid Typhoon" Vash the Stampede. Meryl is very hot-headed and tries to take her job very seriously, she is also known as "Derringer Meryl" as she often carries many "Derringer"-styled Pistols hidden underneath her coat. When she originally meets Vash she deems him to be a nuisance but over the course of the series has grown to respect him and even have feelings for him (though in the anime she is more of a Tsundere while in the Manga her feelings for him are more romantic).

Today we have the first Trigun VC and this shall be for one of the two main ladies in the series... MERYL STRIFE! Let us begin...

Dorothy Fahn- Dorothy was quite a natural in the role as her voice and performance suited the role very well. Dorothy's voice for the role had a cute but serious-minded and kind of temperamental feel as her performance does suit on how Meryl can go from trying to sound professional to even her softer more endearing moments as well. Dorothy's work as Meryl is a very fine example of his work and of the voice work in the show.

Luci Christian- Luci was a pretty good alternative choice for the role as her voice works pretty well with the role here. Luci's performance was good as it does suit Meryl's serious-minded persona pretty well and is a pretty good example of her work and of the voice work in the movie.

Overall while I will go with Dorothy both of these ladies did pretty well with the role here.

Revisiting this since I've began Trigun.

1. Dorothy Fahn- Her Meryl was amazing. For a very hit or miss actress Trigun is a perfect example of what happens when you get a bullseye. Her performance was natural and she did a fantastic job with the character's development and her love for Vash. It's easily her best role if I'm being honest and it's not hard to see why.
2. Luci Christian- She's way to generic and sweet sounding. Metabad sums things up nicely for me and it's not just that. Meryl just...isn't the same with Dorothy you know?

Fahn takes the cake here. Her performance was way better and her voice sounded more natural.

They both really nail the character, but Dorothy Fahn just gave SO much more to the role with her voice and performance.

Man, after watching Meryl develop so much throughout the series, it's kind of jarring to remember how uptight she used to be at the beginning of the series...I guess she was still uptight in a way, but she became a lot more likable as the series went on.

But anyways, I'm going with Dorothy Fahn, she captured not only Meryl's rather strict nature, but also her more easygoing moments as well not to mention she showcased quite a lot of emotion in the role and she had great chemistry with both Milly and Vash. What with it seeming like she's the only sane one amongst the main characters, it got a few good laughs out of me I gotta say.

I'm not sure about Luci's been mentioned before that she seems a little bit generic in the role and I'm inclined to agree, she doesn't have as much energy in the role and her acting seems a bit off at times. Also I'm not sure if it's just me but I think I hear an accent at times, not sure what kind of accent it is though.

Needless to say Dorothy had much more time to get used to the role and had a lot more development with Meryl. I guess Luci could have fit, but it doesn't sound all that consistent with Dorothy's performance. On its own I guess it's okay, but in comparison there's really no contest here. Dorothy Fahn all the way!

Luci Christian was a good replacement and it's nice to know that even if FUNimation was a bit too cheap to pull out all the stops and bring the whole cast back, they at least put someone competent like Luci Christian in the role of Meryl as a decent stand-in.

However, that's all she is, a stand-in. Dorothy Fahn IS Meryl and she easily bests Luci in the role. Still have to respect Luci though, at least her performance was enjoyable.

I'm in a similar stance to my opinion on the Milly Thompson voice-compare; Dorothy Fahn definitely made Meryl Stryfe into the proto-tsundere she is while Luci Christian feels a bit more generic. Still, they're both good and Luci Christian is one of my all-time favorite voice actors and I expect that if she had played Meryl in the series instead she would have been much better. (When I heard that Luci Christian would be voicing Meryl in the movie, I thought that it was a great choice for a replacement, so I'm kind of disappointed that she ended up a little generic)

Both sound so much alike, but Dorothy originated the role and was the basis for Luci's portrayal, so it's only natural to go with her.

I liked both, but I'm gonna give this one to Dorothy Fahn. I thought her Meryl was better.
