EDITOR'S OPINION

Yes believe it or not I am actually going to do a Transformers Voice Compare with one of the human characters. And I shall start that off with the father of Samuel "Spike" Witwicky, Sparkplug Witwicky.

In the original series he was voiced by the late great Chris Latta and it is by all means good. Chris definitely did a nice fairly gruff middle aged tone of voice to fit Sparkplug's Fatherly nature that's a fairly interesting contrast to Chris' infamously higher pitched voices in the show.

A TF character by the name of Sparkplug didn't get a speaking role until Transformers Animated in which I will tell you now is pretty much "Cameo Fodder". Now granted this would naturally give TFA a rather bit of a disadvantage but that doesn't necessarily mean the voices will be bad. While its not fully confirmed whether if this Sparkplug is even related to the Witwicky family that we saw in TFA (but to be fair they are "Cameo Fodder" as well). But still while he had a couple of brief speaking roles, in the episode "Nature Calls" he is voiced by Jeff Bennett. While Jeff's Sparkplug voice is kind of generic but its not too bad and its overall a decent fit (at least its better than the 2nd one).

In Sparkplug's second appearance "Sari, No One's Home" he is voiced by VA David Kaye, sounds pretty good at first but how the slag did THIS happen?! Now I am no "G1 Elitist" but even when you view it completely by its own merits its mindbogglingly unfitting, I mean who picked THIS for a fairly big normal middle aged construction worker? Though to be honest I put all the blame on the voice direction on this one cause I like David Kaye and I am considerably familiar with his work and I have a good feeling he can do a Sparkplug voice more fitting than this.

(Sadly this is one of the few cases in which having a certain character only making a brief cameo might be a good thing.)

So overall I am going with Chris Latta here with Jeff Bennett at second and David Kaye at a grossly misdirected distant third.

I'm going with Chris. Jeff was good. I normally like David Kaye's work but this role was just bad.

O_O What in the heck was going on in David Kaye's clip?! Was, as Pokejedservo suggested, the voice director at fault? As it the writer for writing the line? Whoever did the animation/storyboards for choosing the Sparkplug model for that scene? Either way, it was a bad fit and I agree Pokejedservo that David Kaye could've done a more conventional Sparkplug voice.

Yeah, I'm going with Chris Latta for Sparkplug.
