My Top 5 Favourite Sideswipe Voices:

5. Andre Sogullizo
4. Fred Tatasciore
3. Michael Bell/Travis Willingham
2. Darren Criss
1. James Remar

Future VA Suggestions:

For A Rougher version of The RID Incarnation, Justin Cook's Yusuke Urameshi would be a Solid Fit.

For A Version Inspired by the Live Action version, I believe Kiefer Sutherland would be solid in the Part.

I also recommend Kin Shriner, Adrian Petriw, Christopher McDonald and Sean Astin.

What I like about Travis's Sideswipe voice is that it could fit all his different depictions. He definitely recieves my vote. I liked pretty much all the others though.

I used to think of Sideswipe as a really generic character but nowadays Sideswipe is starting to get more focus and characterization which is nice.

My favourite version of Sideswipe is the RID version and Darren Criss is fantastic as him. He's basically a robot teenager, he's irresponsible and kind of a cocky jerk sometimes but I find this characterization the most memorable and he has the funniest moments of all Sideswipe's.

My second favourite is Michael Bell. While Bell is a fantastic VA I didn't think he shined in G1 at all, it wasn't till he reprise for Devastation that I thought he was really impressive, Bell is in his late 70's, starting his early 80's and it blew my mind that he could pull off a still relatively youthful character at his age. I thought only VA's like Frank Welker, Cam Clarke or seiyuu's like Toshio Furukawa and Toru Furuya could pull off young sounding voices at their ages. He impressed me so much that now I hear Bell as Sideswipe in the IDW comics.

Before Bell became my new voice for Sideswipe when I read, the voice I used was Travis Willingham, who I do like in the role. He's a bit generic sure but for a long time Sideswipe was just that generic guy in the background. Not much else to say.

Of all the Movie Sideswipe voices, my favourite was James Remar, he sounds the coolest and most badass of them all. He had more lines in DOTM than Andre Sogullizo got to have. Andre was good for those few lines but he needed more time and material to work with. why he was recast, that I will never know.

Fred Tatasciore surprisingly fits this role well too, it was cool to see him as a Autobot who wasn't a deep voiced brute or intellectual. Bronco Jackson sounds kinda cool for the role, he almost sounds like he'd fit as Jazz or Blaster just as well though. Nolan North is my least favourite of the movie voices, he's not terrible but leaves the least of an impression.

Sam Vincent is fine for an Armada Sideswipe but Armada Sideswipe is my least favourite incarnation and he doesn't add much else to the role to make care for him.

Overall Darren Criss gets my vote, with Michael Bell as a close second.

BONUS: I think Matt Lanter could make an awesome Sideswipe, I imagine he'd do a lighter sounding version of his Anakin Skywalker, I'd also like to see Michael Adamthwaite (imagine a more cocky version of his Jay) and if the movie version ever came back in some form maybe Robert Patrick?

1) Michael Bell: Despite of the fact that Sideswipe doesn't do a whole lot in the original show, Bell's performance is just so full of depth and energy that you can immediately tell that he's a young, impulsive warrior. Plus, he does have some great chemistry with Corey Burton's Sunstreaker. Another standout from the original cartoon.

2) James Remar: One of my favorite live-action movie performances, Remar sounds extremely cool as well as tough. There's something about his deep, raspy voice that I think fits the movie design up to a tee. Plus, he has some memorable one liners.

3) Darren Criss: "I like the NZA NZA parts!!!" Man, Criss not only nails the youthful attitude and the impulsiveness, but he also adds a moderately childish attitude which makes his take pretty endearing.

4) Travis Willingham: A pretty cool youthful performance. Willingham does nail the character's impulsiveness and youthful attitude. A pretty cool performance from the Cybertron games.

5) Fred Tatasciore: Tatasciore really got to show his range in here. He does sound tough, but he also sounds pretty youthful, which really surprises me. Another great performance from an enjoyable game.

6) Nolan North: He's really cool. I think the cockney accent adds a lot to his performance and it kinda fits the design, too. Another standout performance from that game.

7) Sam Vincent: He's kinda cool, though he doesn't sound very impulsive, but then again, it's a different version of the character.

8) Andre Sogliuzzo: His accentless James Bond type of voice is kinda cool, but he doesn't get a whole lot of material to work with. Though I do sense some potential for Green Lantern (especially since Michael Rye told me when I met him that he portrayed GL as an American Bond in space kinda hero). But at it stands, Sogliuzzo really needed more material to work with.

9) Bronco D. Jackson: Decent, but kinda forgettable.

Darren has the cocky rebel teenage sidekick type voice Sideswipe should have, and I like Sam for his young soldier and teenage sidekick attributes, and Michael has a good youthful voice for him. All the tough guy/Bayformers versions don't really stand out enough for me to individually rank them, so I'm gonna tie them all. DreamMastrer worded it better than I can. Bronco's not too bad either

2. Darren Criss
3. James Ramar
4. Fred Tatasciore
5. Travis Willingham
6. Bronco D. Jackson
7. Norlan North
8. Sam Vincent
9. Michael Bell

Why did James Remar replace Andre Sogliuzzo in DOTM? why did Andre not return?

Darren's Sideswipe is what I've been waiting for in a Sideswipe for a LONG time - something memorable. He's not just a generic tough-guy, but a snarky, sassy loud-mouth.

Also, his hair looks like mine, so...

With a name like Sideswipe, Criss is honestly the type of voice that I best imagine: both snarky and smooth-talking. He gets my vote.

I like Willingham's performance, but my biggest issue with WoF's voice directing is that nearly every voice feels the same: soldier-like. It shouldn't bug me so much since it IS a war game. But sometimes the voices don't do a thing for me (Epcar as Skywarp) Plus, compared to the voice acting in other Transformers-related media (G1, TFA, and ESPECIALLY TFP), I honestly think they could've done better.

Sideswipe is another one of those issues. It's a good warrior-like take, but it nevers leaves much of an impact on me. It feels rather generic compared to other renditions. I'm not big on Sideswipe in DotM, but I'll admit that Remar did a great job, and it DID leave a bit of an impact (not much, but it did).

Really, for me, it's either between James Remar or Michael Bell. Their takes on the character are the ones that stand out for me.

Just recently played the ROTF game again, and I am absolutely positive that Sideswipe's clip is actually Andrew Kishino voicing Jazz.

Nolan actually has an Australian accent for some reason. It's not bad, but it sounds very odd coming from Sideswipe.

@bumblebeebug Which would be strange, since Kishino's Jazz voice is NOTHING like Nolan's Sideswipe clip...
said at 3:23 PM on Wed Oct 30 2013
@TylerMirage Believe me, it's definitely Andrew. He was already in the game's cast as Breakaway, so I'm not surprised that they had him do an extra DLC character.

@bumblebeebug Well, since Nolan is credited as Sideswipe, it might just be a case that we have the wrong audio clip attached to the character. We'll have to look into that.

It still strikes me as strange that *if* Andrew was reprising his role of Jazz in the "RotF" game, why would they make it sound so VASTLY different than his voice in the first game?
said at 2:51 PM on Mon Nov 11 2013
@TylerMirage It seems like Jazz was just one of many characters in the ROTF game that had an overdose of vocal effects.

Starscream in particular, but also Bumblebee, Sideways, The Fallen, Long Haul, and the Protectobot.

Is it me, or does Travis sound like Sean Schemmel only deeper?
said at 11:22 PM on Sat Dec 8 2012

Well the first part of his clip, "Optimus is right. We've been in tougher spots than this" sounds like Dan Green. Whereas the second half, "Wow! Megatron's gathered quite the army, hasn't he?" sounds like Sean Schemmel.

Overall, Willingham sounds a combination of Green & Schemmel. But yeah, I can definitely hear the vocal resemblance between them!
