Dr. Morocco

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Dr. Morocco with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Transformers

Dr. Morocco is a villain from the Transformers franchise. He is a slimy, despicable scientist who creates tech and weapons (including an army of MorBots) for monetary gain, rather than the benefit of others. Morocco joined the scientific community in an attempt to create a time machine, but due to limited time and resources, they had to scrap the project...for the time being. He resides on Griffin Rock, and often comes into conflict with the Burns family and their team of Rescue Bots

EDITOR'S OPINION

For the majority of his appearances in Rescue Bots, Morocco was voiced by the go-to English villain voice actor... Tim Curry. Tim's naturally slimy-yet-sophisticated voice was a perfect match for the character. Morocco is smart, cunning, lethal and vile - all qualities that Tim manages to bring out in his performance.

When Morocco first appeared in season two, Greg Ellis was the man behind the mic. As I've said before, it's difficult to follow up a Tim Curry performance. Greg does his best Curry impression, and for the most part, manages to make it pretty believable. When I first heard Ellis' Morocco voice (before I knew it was Ellis), I could tell by the performance that something was "off". I couldn't tell what, though. But you could've told me that Curry had a cold during the recording session and I would've believe you.

For the Rescue Bots: Disaster Dash game, David Lodge (who played Heatwave and Chase in the game) has a crack at the evil Doctor. Despite being 75% of the voice cast of the game, David does a bang-up job at not only differentiating his performances, but sounding more-than-passable at all of them. He's not 100% quite like Tim Curry (though nobody is), but it's a darn good impression.

It goes without saying that Tim gets my vote, but Greg Ellis is a very worthy replacement (considering that this might've happened during Tim's unfortunate health issues) and David is a surprisingly good fill-in, too.

David sometimes is really spot on while other times sounds a little too posh. If he had more time to polish the role, I am sure he could do better.

Tim is just as slimy, sophisticated, and entertaining as he always is playing villains like this. He's a natural at playing these types of characters.

Greg does a pretty okay impression of Tim and he does sound like he's having a lot of fun. He has that great slimy sound and I like how he kind of drags out some of his words making him sound more sinister. A decent replacement for Tim.

David is really flat to me. I don't know no matter how much I listen to it nothing is all that distinct about it. It sounds not even close to Tim or Greg to me, and it just kind of comes off as generic.

1. Tim Curry
2. Greg Ellis
3. David Lodge

David Lodge does a good job.

I don't remember who said it, but I agree with it: Ellis sounds like he's channeling Michael York instead of Curry.

Personally I don't think any future successor to Tim Curry should channel him, just use a British accent, while keeping him appropriately evil, not too much like a mad scientist like David did.

That being said great to hear David again but was Greg busy?

It's good to hear David Lodge branch more into Western Animation, but his Dr. Morocco is too over the top evil, and certainly not close to sounding like Tim Curry.

Not that I think it's terrible or anything, it's just that it's not right for the character is all.

Greg Ellis was more decent, but let's be frank, Tim Curry owned the role before, so there is no contest.

BONUS: Aside from David Kaye, I think Robin Atkin Downes, Neil Kaplan, Jeff Bennett, Fred Tatasciore, or JB Blanc would've been better replacements for Tim.

VC thoughts update

I like Greg Ellis the most. He does do a pretty good emulation of Tim Curry, yet he does make the role his own. He kinda sounds like a mix between Curry and Matt Frewer.

Tim Curry is pretty good, of course. He does sound pretty sinister, yet he also seems to be having fun.

David Lodge is also rather enjoyable.

Tim Curry is king. Greg Ellis does a top notch impression (but yeah it sounds like he has a cold), and David Lodge fills in for him quite well, but I think he slips off from the voice a few times in the clip.

Even if its a typical type of role for him, Tim Curry voicing in Transformers is absolutely smashing! I don't think they could have cast a better actor for this part in all fairness. It's a shame he had his stroke and had to drop out in a lot of his then ongoing roles.

Greg Ellis, Primus bless him he tried but you can tell it's just not the same, if anything I get a Michael York vibe from his voice and performance than Curry. He's an alright replacement but at the end of the day you can't beat Tim Curry in a role....He's Tim "Freaking" Curry.

It's obvious who got my vote.

BONUS: Considering how he replaced Curry as Joseph Chadwick, I think David Kaye would be interesting to hear as Morocco in the future. Provided he doesn't make him sound exactly like his Megatron of course.

Maybe it's just the clips, but Tim Curry sounds more wicked, which is something he's extremely good at. While Greg Ellis seems fitting, he just lacks that *bite* that Tim has. I know this program is geared towards a younger audience so there certainly isn't anything wrong with Greg, but Tim is the master of wicked, intelligent guys.

If Doctor Morocco ever appeared in the Live Action Films, I think Michael Fassbender should play Him, Or even Rupert Everett could portray the Character.

OK, I don't really watch the kid cartoons these days but I still watch the more mature ones like Happy Tree Friends or South Park. Currently I either watch the Legend of Korra or TMNT (2012) these days.

Rescue Bots is a show I wouldn't watch at my age but I know it has some good in it. So let me begin analysing Dr.Morocco's character, easily Tim Curry because that guy pretty much voices good villains.

@electronic456 Age gots nothing to do with it, man. Sure it's *aimed* at a slightly younger audience than say, TFP or Ben 10, but it can be surprisingly mature at times (and loads of fun ALL of the time).

Watch a few episodes of RB and give it a chance. If you genuinely don't care for it, that's cool. But I think you might just be surprised. ;)

@TylerMirage
I've watched the 1st season episodes that had Bumblebee in it and to be honest, they weren't all that bad.

I enjoyed Blades being a fan of Bumblebee. And I also enjoyed the last two episodes of season 1, where Dr. Morocco builds those Morbots and the RBs have to reverse time. It was also fun to see Heatwave attempting to volunteer to fight alongside Optimus.

Tim, but Greg is good for a stand in, but like David Kaye taking over as Joseph Hadwick(in the Ben 10 section) you can tell it's not him, it's noticeably lighter but gets the job done. If Tim and Greg ae both unavailable, I'd call in Robin Atkin Downes

Morocco is such an underrated villain. I mean, listen to Curry's lines! He conquers an alternate timeline, reshapes the world to his vision and then flat-out sends an army of war machine robots back in time to MURDER TWO INNOCENT CHILDREN.
