Transformers Transformers

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Devastator with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Transformers

Devastator is a supporting antagonist from the Transformers franchise. Devastator has appeared in many different parts of Transformers media, from television shows to movies to comic books. Often portrayed as the combined form of several different Constructicons, Devastator is one of the Decepticons' most powerful weapons. A gestalt with enormous power and destructive capability, a weapon designed to be activated and pointed in the direction of the enemy.

In the Generation One series and movie, Arthur Burghardt stepped up to the mic. The voice he used in the movie is deeper and has some additional FX thrown onto it to make it more monstrous.

Although he doesn't get much material to work with in the aptly-named Devastation, Dave Boat does a servicable job as the Decepticon combiner.

For the Machinima-produced web series Combiner Wars, veteran VA Patrick Seitz joined the fresh-faced cast. Patrick's deep and gruff voice is a perfect fit for Devastator.

In the end, Arthur's movie voice is getting my vote.

Rob is fine but I think he's a step down from Patrick, he misses that same energy and power Patrick had.

I really think Arthur Burghardt is the best here. He has a really awesome deep voice and he does sound imposing, fitting for the very first Decepticon combiner.

Dave Boat has a lighter voice, but he still does sound quite imposing. A good replacement for Arthur.

Rob Dyke does sound like he's having fun in the role.

Patrick Seitz sounds a bit too unnatural at times.

Rob is pretty good for the Youtube people that they got. While he doesn't have a whole lot, he does fit the size and power of the character pretty well.

Rob Dyke is very good. He sounds more articulate than Patrick Seitz did in the role, but that's not a bad thing. I think I'll move him up to second place.

Arthur is the best here. That "Prepare for extermination" line always gives me the chills.

For the time, Arthur Burghardt was the solid voice for Devastator. He ads this sort of classic, Adonis-type sounding sentient voice to the character that's both imposing and intricate.

David Boat is alright, but it's sort of a step down from the tone Arthur put in the character earlier.

Patrick Seitz, sort of in the same league as Boat but adds a bit more energy in the right place when the character needs to shout. It's sounds sort of like a mix between Fred Tatasciore and Nolan North in terms of texture and speech pattern.

BONUS: After having heard Pat's take, and as typecast this may be, I do think either Nolan or Fred could work well as Devastator. Or maybe even John Dimaggio, Travis Willingham, Neil Kaplan, KMR... yeah the usual. But I can also see Khary Payton doing something with him like he did with Grimlock in RID or even Killer Croc in Arkham Origins; as well as Imari Williams having recently played Goliath Spider in USM.
Then of course, there's always Scott McNeil and either of the Dobson brothers back in Vancouver, particularly Paul Dobson.

I'm actually voting for Seitz for this one. He sounds big & powerful which is something Arthur & David lacked.

Arthur is best here. Not sure which accent I like better though.

Why didn't Arthur voiced Devastator in the game as well?

@Francesco92e Possibly because he might not have auditioned, might not have been available, might not have wanted to, or a variety of other reasons.

@Francesco92e He hasn't done any VO for animation etc. since 2010. Since the dude is in his 60s he may just be retired.

Voting for Arthur Burghardt mostly for his performance in the movie, where he sounds deeper and more imposing.

David Boat isn't bad at all though, and I admittedly like it more than Arthur's voice in the show (which is a pretty good performance on its own, but I don't find the voice all that fitting.)

Giving this to Arthur Burghardt. Dave Boat is pretty good.

I like that both of Arthur's clips start with him saying "Prepare".

I'm not really impressed with either. Neither really show off the power of a giant named Devastator.

@Music Meister This may have been two years ago, but somehow you are right on the money about Michael "Worf" Dorn being cast in this show. Just not as Devastator.
