Thundercats Thundercats

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Panthro with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Thundercats

The second eldest of the Thundercats, Panthro is the strongest and most skilled warrior of the group.  He yields a lethal set of nunchucks and is also the mechanic and architect responsible for building the ThunderTank, ThunderClaw and basically every other vehicle used by the Thundercats. He is often the voice of reason among the cats and can sometimes lose his temper when dealing with some of the others immature tendencies.

I absolutely love both voice actors who have had the honor of giving life to this epic character.  Kevin Michael Richardson is by far one of the hottest voices on the scene today and I have no doubt that no matter what I, or anyone else says, he will run away as the winner of this poll.

However, Earl Hyman, better known as Heathcliff Huxtable's father on the famous Cosby Show simply has one of the coolest voices I have ever heard. The baritone in his voice and his Shakespearean training gave him the ability to tell a story or deliver a line in ways that most people could only dream about. Granted the writers did not always give him the dialogue to show off these skills in this series but regardless I still have to give my vote to Grandpa Cosby!

By the way, bonus geek credit to anyone who gets the reference at the beginning of the 2011 clip!! Hilarious!!

I honestly like both voices, but for different reasons. Earle I like because he has a geuine fatherly warmth about him, which really makes him charming. KMR however, I have an easier time seeing as a fearless warrior.

While I do prefer Panthro's design in the reboot, Hyman's voice grasps my attention more easily. Ricardson was a natural choice for the role and This was not an easy choice for me.

Ed Hyman earns my Vote.

Does anyone else get a "Hudson" kind of feel from Panthro?
I don't know how he'd sound with Ed Asner's voice, or if it'd fit, but it'd be interesting to see and hear.
That, or Keith David's voice. It'd be pretty cool.

@Shiny Raticate The 2011 version does remind me of Hudson. I mean he's got similar hair(or lack thereof.), the scar over the eye and the brown outfit looks really similar between the two.

Earl is okay, but he never quite fit. Kevin Michael Richardson is a perfect match.

I'm going with Kevin Michael Richardson.

I will have to go with Mr. Hyman on this one! Compared to all of KMR characters such as Green Lattern,GI Joe to name a few...they all sound the same and generic, with Grandpa Huxtable its so unique and a breath of fresh air!

@tcat685 While not going as far to say its generic, Kevin's voices are like that a lot, and I agree that Earl is a breath of fresh air. Also am I the only one who thinks the 2011 variation looks like Jet Black from cowboy bebop?

@cardboardwalk You're right, he DOES look like Jet Black.

@tcat685 That's his regular voice.

@TheVengeanceKnight Regular voice or not, a generic voice is a generic voice and a surefire way to dock approval over a fresher, more original voice.

@CatsTuxedo You know what else is a surefire way to dock approval? Crappy acting, and that's what Earl had.

@cardboardwalk Heh, now I can't unsee that.

@TheVengeanceKnight Quite a foolhardy statement there. I'm sure the users who actually like Hyman's performance better (I'm not crazy for either one, just so it's known) would just love to hear that; one of them's even an admin, in case you didn't notice ;)

And yes, we're all very familiar with how entitled you are to your precious opinion, and we're also aware that you have a history of considering anybody who doesn't agree with you either drunk or crazy. We know, we know.

@TheVengeanceKnight While Kevin Michael Richardson is a superb and elite voice actor...saying that Earl Hyman was a crappy actor in this is the most absurd thing you have said in a while and that says a lot. Hyman was in a master class when it comes to acting.

I said the acting was crappy, not the actor himself (which I personally can't judge because I'm not too familiar with his work).

@TheVengeanceKnight That's painfully obvious. Hyman may have been given crappy lines at time throughout the series but his acting was far from crappy.

Im actually going with Earl, he was caring and even somewhat like a father-figure to Lion-O. Kevin's is a different take on the character but it's hard to like that version when your more familiar with a kinder version. It's like if Alfred was a jerk to bruce Wayne

Being a huge thundergeek myself, and yes Samoflange! Did not excape me, infact it was great! Perfect slide in Joke. I'v always loved the origional cast. They were perfect in my era, however i can't compare the two 1980's and 2011. It is what it is, Lion-o, aka Larry. Will always have my vote for the best and most remarkable Lion-o. Panthro cheetara, ect i'll forever remember every syllible with love. But here in 2011, watching them now, my ultime fav is Panthro, Kevin. He just magicly trumph's with his cranky grouchy deep voice.

I think that Kevin's deeper voice fits really well for Panthro, but it's still pretty much the same in every single role what he have ever played. Anyway, my vote goes to him.

By the way, I can wholeheartedly agree with your statement when it comes to Hyman and he does seem to be one of the better voices of the original cast... And not to bash Kevin here, but his voice has been heard quite a lot recently and I'm not too sure whenever to say I like him more or not. Granted he does fits the role, here... But like with Lion-O, I have to go with the original voice.

Flying in the face of which version I've been preferring thus far for this series, I'm going with Kevin.

@ninjinister Fair enough, I can't complain with either of these voices winning the vote on this one because both were so great. I will stick with my vote for Earl Hyman though, they just don't make 'em like that anymore!
