Teen Titans Teen Titans

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Cyborg with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Teen Titans

Victor Stone was once a promising athlete, until a tragic accident nearly took his life. He was saved through the an experiment using cybernetic technology, turning most of his body into a machine, equipped with high-tech gadgets and weapons.

1. Khary Payton is the definitive voice of Cyborg and his performance is great in the Brother blood arc of teen titans and in Injustice

2. Shemar Moore is pretty especially capturing the New 52 Cyborg

3. Bumper was pretty good justice League doom

Honorary mention: Ernie Hudson since he was the first to voice him back in Super Power Team: Galactic Guardians

"When there's trouble
you know what to do
Call Cyborg!

He can shoot a rocket from his shoe
Cause he's Cyborg!

Do dun do da
Something like that
Oh yeah!

Na na na na
Big fluffy cat
That's right!"

I think it's safe for me to say that I'm not the only one who was slightly annoyed by the fact that The New 52 made Cyborg a Justice League member instead of a Teen Titan ( though thankfully Dan Abnett fixed that with his excellent 'Titans Hunt' Miniseries).

Anyway, Here are my Top Five Favourite Cyborg Voices:

5. Ernie Hudson/ Michael B. Jordan
4. Bryton James
3. Bumber Robinson
2. Avery Waddell
1. Khary Payton

Future VA Suggestions:

I'm Thinking Eka Darville would be a Great voice for Cyborg, using a Deeper version of Scott Truman/ Red RPM Ranger voice.

I also think that Dexter Bell would be solid as Victor, using a similar voice to his Stan voice from 'Oban Star Racers'.

I also recommend Adam Lazarre-White, Corbin Bleu, Walter Emanuel Jones and Hill Harper.

My top picks for Vic are as followed;

Khary Payton
Avery Waddell
Bumper Robinson
Shemar Moore

I could see Michael B. Jordan work without the effects for his voice though to make it work better for how he voiced Vic.

Okay here goes nothing.

Khary Payton. This guy is the definitive Cyborg when it comes to giving the character a voice. Granted the voice of the character can always be up to interpretation from the comics but for me, Khary is to Cyborg was Kevin Conroy is to Batman. It's just that fitting!

Bumper Robinson comes close to second with a somewhat higher tone.

Michael B. Jordan is somewhat more of a natural, more mellow sounding take which most seem to get from the comics, which is fine, you're entitled to your preference.

Avery Waddell has a somewhat more jiving feel to the character, which I like, no harm there.

Shemar Moore... Holy Moly, that's pretty much like getting Kevin Michael Richardson to voice Static Shock to me! I get making the character sound more mature, but this kind of voice just doesn't fit the character in my eyes.

Phil Lamarr, speaking of Static. It's alright, nothing spectacular. I mean I shouldn't be surprised Phil got to play the character, and I should be thrilled, but I just can't help but think of some other character he played. (Don't know who though)

Brian Bloom... wait what?! Well, for what it's worth, Brain was... okay as Cyborg. At best he's okay. I mean there are no boundaries in voice acting as to which actor can voice which character based on their race or whatever.

Ernie Hudson, for his time, is actually pretty decent for the character, no different from Waddell, Robinson, or Lamarr in terms of jiving teenage football player.

Bryton James, as I've stated is almost similar to Payton, only somewhat lighter in tone. I guess the best way to describe it is if he less of a football player and more of a tech student. Somewhat poetic for the theme of the character being a cyborg

All in all, I'm gonna have to say that Khary Payton is the more definitive voice for character.

Bonus: I can see Chris Jai Alex doing a decent Cyborg, and maybe even Doron Bell Jr. ; and especially Donal Glover. Another would probably be Jalen K. Cassell, who is pretty new in the industry, so it would be cool to see him take a crack at the character or in animation in general. And I guess... maybe Ian Jones Quartey if he were involved in production?

@Troodon2 I think Brian, much like Shemar or KMR, is quite a bit deep for a young character like Cyborg. Actually...Bumper might come closest to what this character might actually sound like.

Hudson, Robinson and Payton are my favorites. They really nail the essence of the character while also giving him a little bit of their own. Most of the others are also good, but not on the level of these three.

Khary and Bumper are my top 2. Never been a fan of the synthetic effect they give the voices of Cyborg these days. I know, he's half machine, but I don't his voice needs that effect to it.

Brian, Alexander and Tom are definitely not my favorites. As the first, Ernie's will always have a special place. That aside, Bumper Robinson's Cyborg is awesome and Avery Waddell's take is reminiscent of Ernie Hudson's early portrayal.

Ernie Hudson- He's okay, but there isn't all that much to go off of with his clip. 6.5/10

Khary Payton- Talk about an A+ role for Khary. The amount of energy, and charisma that Khary has in the role is still amazing and is hands down one of the best performances in Teen Titans. He fits the role absolutley perfectly. 9.75/10

Phil Lamarr- It's a decent voice but it's a voice of Phil I've heard from him before so it's not really anything amazing for Phil, let alone for the character of Cyborg. 5.5/10

Alexander Brandon- It's obvious that it's a Caucasian male playing this character, but his voice is okay at best, which is the case for most of the DCU online performances. 5.5/10

Bumper Robinson- Bumper does have the charisma and youth in his voice, but not quite the energy that Khary had, but to be fair, this was a much more serious portrayal of Cyborg, but Robinson does a good job with the role for what he was given. 7.5/10

Brian Bloom- like Alexander, it's painfully obvious its a white guy, and he has significantly less to work with than anyone else here. but from what I hear again, it's not terrible, it's just not that memorable. 5.5/10

Michael B. Jordan- Does sound very good in the role, and his very serious portrayal in the film was done extremely well. Honestly I don't have much to say about his role, it's just good. 7.5/10

Tom Clarke Hill- Again, it is a white guy they obviously slowed down, but he works surprisingly well with it. He sounds serious enough, does get a couple good lines, and his delivery doesn't come off very forced. 7/10

Avery Waddell- He does have the youth, and some of the energy, and even gets a couple good lines, and to be honest I wouldn't mind seeing him in the role again. 8/10

Shemar Moore- He is one of the very few decent portrayals in JL War, but even then it's not saying that much. He sounds whiny at some points, and his line delivery comes off as cheesy sometimes. 6/10

1. Khary
2. Avery
3. Michael
4. Bumper
5. Tom
6. Ernie
7. Shemar
8. Alexander
9. Phil
10. Brian.

@skeletonking1234 If Khary fits the role perfectly, what'd he lose the .25 points on?
said at 6:25 PM on Fri Feb 28 2014
@GothamRed because I wouldn't call it one of the best roles in animation history. Those are 10s in my opinion, like Hamill or Dimaggios Joker, Gary Oldman as Shen in Kung Fu Panda 2, or Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.

Don't get me wrong it is one of the best Comic book animated performances, but I don't think it's on the same vain as say Kevin Conroy as Batman.
said at 4:31 PM on Mon May 12 2014
@skeletonking1234 Actually, I'm pretty sure that Tom Clarke Hill's voice isn't slowed down or digitally altered in the slightest. His voice is naturally that deep. I know because I've played TimeSplitters: Future Perfect and he sounds exactly the same.

4. Michael Jordan - Plays a deeper, older, very serious Cyborg perfectly.
5. Phil LaMarr - A great voice, but one I've heard before.

I can't stop listening to Khary's voice, he is so awesome! Ernie was good as the first Cyborg. Phil LaMarr, even though he's my favorite voice actor, I find a bit underwhelming. Alexander is OK, but I can tell he's white. Brian did a better job at hiding his race. Bumper is probably second to Khary, but I wish they got Khary in that movie instead since they were reuniting several DCAU cast members.

Ernie Hudson: As the first Cyborg, I think he did a good job. Then again, Ernie Hudson will always be cool.

Khary Payton: He is the most iconic Cyborg. No competition, but I do think him having done an entire show helps him out a bit.

Phil Lamarr: Great choice as Cyborg, I like him.

Alexander Brandon; He was good, probably the weakest. It just seems that so far, it's better for a Cyborg VA to be black.

Bumper Robinson: Also great. Not much more to say.

Khary Payton is first, then LaMarr and Robinson, Ernie Hudson and Alexander Brandon last.

#1 Khary Payton
Cyborg is arguably his greatest and most well-received performance, even up to today. A perfect fit for the character's appearance and personality, making him seem friendly but can become aggressive when need be. Of course, there's also his good sense of humor and the well-known catchphrase of his. One of the best performances of Teen Titans and not to mention Khary's best voice-over work.

#2 Ernie Hudson
For a voice-over performance from the 1980's, his was actually very good! Like I've said about other classic performances, his was a great predecessor for the others and firmly laid the groundwork for them to follow.

#3 Alexander Brandon
The voice itself is good, but much like Tracy's Deathstroke from that game, it's too deep, and it's not due to the sound effects.

#3 Phil LaMarr
Not bad, but not good either. Phil is a great voice actor, but this particular performance of his is rather medicore. Makes Cyborg seem awkward and clumsy rather than robotic.
