Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Beast Boy with sound clips and images.
Beast Boy A.K.A The Changeling is a DC Comics Superhero whom has been around since The Doom Patrol #99 back in November of 1965. Beast Boy's real name is Garfield Mark "Gar" Logan and he was originally known as a member of the Doom Patrol but is currently known as a member of Teen Titans. Beast Boy has the ability to change into any animal he knows of on a whim, his ability along with his green skin came from an untested serum from his parents that he took in his early childhood when he was bitten by a green monkey and got the rare disease Sakutia. Beast Boy is often known as the comedian of the group and is one of the more cheerful members of Teen Titans but he has had his share of more dramatic moments (such as how his love life can be in the past lets just say).

EDITOR'S OPINION

Today on the Teen Titans VC section we have a little something for this little green man from Earth... BEAST BOY! We shall begin with the Teen Titans series from the early 2000's in which Beast Boy was voiced by Greg Cipes. Beast Boy is one of Greg's earlier VA roles and even now is still one of his more known roles and renowned performances and quite frankly I can understand why. Greg's voice and performance for the role is definitely youthful, as Greg's performance definitely has a rather energetic feel as it suits Beast Boy's comical nature well. (However Greg Cipes' performance still does work well when we get into BB's more dramatic scenes in the series.) So basically to make a long story short Greg Cipes work as Beast Boy is probably one of his best performances and his work as Beast Boy is a great example of the voice work in the show.

In DC Universe Online, Beast Boy gets occasional appearances and was voiced by Josh Meyer. Josh's work on the role is a bit of a mixed bag as his voice is actually pretty good and suits BB's more Comic-accurate look in the game pretty well. However Josh's performance in the game is kind of lukewarm as he tries to do an energetic performance but it sounds a bit awkward than anything else. Granted to be fair Beast Boy didn't get a lot of lines in this game but still while Josh Meyer's work on the role is not really bad its an OK at best example of the voice work in the game even by its own merits. Overall while Josh had a pretty good voice for the role I am clearly going with Greg Cipes on this one.

I wanna hear Greg do an older, more true to the comics Beast Boy. I used to doubt that he'd be able to, but giving more thought, he totally could keep the attitude, while going to a more neutral range.

Interesting casting call with Jason...sadly it didn't really work. He was a bit too cartoony

He could have worked for an older BB if he used more of his normal voice

None of them quite work. Greg Cipes was perfect in the first 6 or so episodes of the show (using his voice for Chiro or Michelangelo) ,but then his voice broke and it got too high and whiny sounding afterwards, though his acting in the character's serious moments was still solid. Logan, despite sharing Beast Boy's last name, sounds too young for a TEEN Titan. And Josh was the worst: "I'm an ANIMAL!" YEESH.

Overall, I vote Cipes just for what he could have been.

@Galactic_Cyrus to be fair Logan played a younger version of the character

I actually prefer Logan Grove as Beast Boy. True, he had less to work with, but I enjoyed his characterisation more. Greg Cipes' Beast Boy didn't really grow on me until the middle of the original series' second season.
There, I said it.

This is a more minor thing, and it doesn't really affect my choice, but I thought I'd mention it. I like that Logan's voice started breaking near the end of the series. It feels more authentic, like Gar finally entered puberty.

I always find it funny that people say Greg Cipes is the definitive Beast Boy, even though his performance is just barely similar to his comic book counterpart.

The original Beast Boy is much more flirtatious and snarky, like KF in Young Justice.

All of them are awesome as Beast Boy, but Greg Cipes is the best voice as Beastboy, with Logan Grove as a close second. Greg Cipes has actually worsened as Beastboy thanks to Teen Titans Go.

@TrueMyriad Not really the actor but the character that worsened in Teen Titans Go. But still I don't really like Logan Grove's Beast Boy due to him just acting a bit stupid most of the time and not actually trying to be like a main character but instead end up on sidelines while the "real heroes" do most of the work.

@Mrguy22594 Beast Boy was never meant to be a main character in Young Justice. He never struck me as particularly stupid, either. Childish and naïve, certainly. But never unintelligent.
But then, even in the original Teen Titans cartoon, Beast Boy wasn't exactly what you'd call the brightest bulb of the lot.

@mweloo Still at least he was average intelligence and not really too stupid or smart which is a great balance. You do kind of have a point with him not meant to be a main character but still sometimes I felt that Young Justice Beast Boy kind of made groan a few times either for the design of the character (which is a green monkey wearing a red jumpsuit) or just how he is sometimes in the series.

@TrueMyriad I'm sorry, but believing that an actor's interpretation of a character has worsened because of one show that you deem inferior to another is just dumb. It's the equivalent of claiming Bruce Greenwood's Batman is worse for appearing in Young Justice (not that I significantly care for Greenwood's Batman in general, but I needed an example).

A great character voice will always transcend mediocre writing.

Greg Cipes: My personal all time favorite Beast Boy and he seemed to get his overall personality down. He knows when to be serious and when to be somewhat funny.
Logan Grove: Ugh....... At least they gave a bit of backstory.
Josh Meyer: Don't know how it's possible but he was even worse.

Greg is the definative BB, I bet he could also do an older version as well. But Logan is really good too, but all I hear from him is Gumball. At least he brings out that great comedic timing in YJ, even if they never used him THAT much. Josh is, kinda weird.

1 . Greg Cipes - In addition to being my and most other people`s introduction to The Character , Greg`s raspy Surfer Dude voice for BB fit his typically carefree , happy-go-lucky personality for most of The Series . I also admire Greg as knowing his proud Veganism in Real Life which he likely convinced The Creators to incorporate into The Character as it made sense for a heroic shapeshifter who can transform into a green version of virtually any animal he encounters , saying that " Real men don`t eat tofu " line probably made him physically ill .
2 . Logan Grove - His younger , nerdier but still retaining that happy-go-lucky Surfer Dude attitude BB Voice gets the job done for his few scenes in The Series .
3 . Josh Meyer - Too old , not memorable and doesn`t fit BB at all ! The fact his Performance is based on the more savage BB from The Comics who I`m not a fan of doesn`t help , either !

@Anicomicgeek You do know Logan Grove`s a lot more like Gar when he first became BB in The Comics which is my favorite Version of The Character whereas the Teen Titans Animated Version is more " teenaged , green Greg Cipes who can turn into animals and tells bad jokes all the time " , right ? Also , a lot of times Greg`s BB came off as acting obnoxious for its own sake while with Logan , you can actually tell he`s telling bad jokes to cope with tragedy , I didn`t get that so much from Greg`s performance , it was mentioned but until towards the end it was never made clear so half the time BB just came off as stupid and insensitive whereas Gar in The Comics was precocious if a bit naive , sensitive , tragic , awkward , innocent and the most kind-hearted Titan ( He was the first to forgive Terra after her death and suggested The Titans build a Hero`s Memorial for her despite everything she put him through which was far more than what Cipes` BB went through in the same situation believe me , that`s just the kind of selfless , kind-hearted person Gar was in The Comics ! )

@Anicomicgeek Um , Gar in The Comics did not use Surfer slang every single other line , would never do childish pranks endangering his friends the way Cipes` BB does all the time ( Unless maybe if he was particularly pissed )or go on and on about a Vegetarian . Also , the Real Gar told jokes to cheer himself up , not to get a cheap laugh out of others
Azrael99
