Tales Tales

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Dhaos with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Tales

Dhaos is one of the more prominent antagonists in the Tales series as he is mainly known as the main villain of the original Tales game Tales of Phantasia. Dhaos is known as the Ancient King A.K.A Demon King whom in the past has waged war on the world due to Magitech in which he will destroy anyone in his way. While Dhao is quite the spell-caster as he has plenty of powerful magical attacks (but oddly enough he is also a skilled hand-to-hand fighter when he is not using magic). Dhaos' is mainly known as the first main antagonist in the Tales series but he has appeared in other games in the series (mostly as small cameos though).

Alright folks today on the Tales VC section we take a look at the main villain of the first game in the series... DHAOS! Lets begin shall we?

Charles Glover- Charles' voice for the role is a bit awkward (not too mention a bit too soft) and it doesn't really seem to fit the role all that well. As for the performance Charles does try to go for an over-the-top performance (with a slight touch of camp) but it doesn't really work with the role well. Its not one of the worst performance I have ever heard but lets just say I have heard Charles do better.

Patrick Seitz- Patrick's work on the role feels a lot more natural as his voice for the role is lower (though not overly deep) and it along with his performance does suit Dhaos' cold and angry nature well. (Though is it just me or does he kind of sound like Crispin Freeman?) But still anyways Patrick's work as Dhaos is a pretty good example of Patrick's voice work.

Overall I am clearly going with Patrick Seitz for this VC...

Glover doesn't fit this character in the slightest (he'd work better for a villain that's MEANT to be comedic) but at the very least, ya can't call his performance dull!

But yes, Seitz's darker and more sinister voice is easily the more fitting one here. And I agree with the other comments that he sounds like Crispin Freeman.

"What durrr eck is daaattt?"

Oh man, I don't know what is with the GBA game and it's voices but this easily takes the cake as the worst and comical of the lot. Glover is so stiff half the time but those lines never fail to amuse me with the way he delivers it.

Seitz is far more suited for this type of role. He's dark, threatening and menacing... everything that Glover (sadly) wasn't.

Gonna go to vote with Patrick for making his Dhaos voice threatening, deep and most of all fluent in comparison to Charles that his is off and somewhat hammy at best in terms of performance.

Now this is an interesting comparison.

Where do I start with Charles Glover? I think his version is really bad. Yet, that's what I actually like about it. It's downright hilarious to listen to.

Patrick is much better in the role IMO. He also sounds a bit like Crispin Freeman in the beginning of the clip.

But while my vote is for Patrick, I find Charles to be memorable and hilarious at the same time.

...Oh wow, haha. I looked up a clip of the GBA port of Tales of Phantasia on Youtube and while Charles Glover's never really amazing in the role, you guys literally took his two worst lines and threw them in this voice comparison.

Kind of unfair, but again he's not really that good in the role, sometimes decent at best and unfittingly confused and flamboyant at worst.

But...with that said, while Patrick Seitz is pretty good in the role, I think I pretty much have to vote for Charles Glover, just because his acting is such an amazing trainwreck to listen to. I've seriously been quoting his lines ever since I heard them on this site, hahaha.

@Metabad By "sometimes decent" I think I actually meant "hammy and entertaining"

Which I suppose still sounds decent at times compared to what I've heard from the rest of the acting in that game.

Patrick Seitz's vocal delivery is smooth while Charles Glover is stiff and unfitting.

Patrick Seitz as a video game villain talking about how awful man is? Hmm, where have I heard that before...

Anyway, Patrick wins this easily.

The sad part is that Charles' was arguably the *best* performance in Phantasia GBA. That's how terrible the voice acting for that game was.

Naturally, I go with the Seitz.
