Mr. Mxyzptlk, easily the quintessential trickster villain and character with a hard to pronounce/spell name. While he has had a few appearances in live action shows he has been in a couple or so animated ones too. In all throughout Superfriends he was voiced by Veteran VA Frank Welker.

Though as renowned as Frank Welker is the last time he was in a Voice Compare with one of his roles on Superfriends as Kalibak it didn't go so well. But Ol' Mxyzptlk is a role that's easily more suitable for Frank Welker's higher voices. Mxyzptlk would require a higher tone that's a nice showing of mischievousness, that's not exactly easy on the ears but quite frankly it was never suppose to. And Frank did deliver on that as its one of his better performances on the show.

In the DCAU cartoon Superman: The Animated Series he was voiced by known comic actor Gilbert Gottfried. In which in the series he is given a very scheming and obnoxious high tone of voice, gee I wonder why they would cast Gilbert Gottfried in this role huh? OK perhaps that was a little cheap but still Gilbert was quite a natural in this role for sure as it was definitely a case of perfect casting there.

So I am not sure which to pick here, both did do the role well.

I don't generally like Lee Tockar, but he would be perfect in the role. Funny how the best portrayal is by a Gilbert, and so is the worst.

Gilbert Gottfried is perfect as Mr. Mxyzptlk, but Dwight Schultz and Kevin Michael Richardson are really good too.

" I must remember all the sound advice of my teachers, and not have any fun doing this. For fun simply has no place in the life of any reasonable scholar. "

Not Much to Say, here are my top 5 Favourite Mxyzptlk voices:

5. Frank Welker
4. Gilbert Mack
3. Kevin Michael Richardson
2. Dwight Schultz
1. Gilbert Gottfried

Future VA Suggestions:

Andrew Rannells would be great this role using a similar voice to his Noah Kaiba voice ( a nice balance between bratty and Vicious).

Tony Oliver would be another solid fit in as Mxyzptlk, using a more curmudgeonly version of his Lupin voice.

I also recommend Stephen Merchant, Peter Kelamis, Todd Haberkorn and Edward Norton.

Gilbert Gottfried is perfectly annoying as Mr. Mxyzptlk. I always got a good laugh out of his performance and the episodes this character appeared in.

Dwight Schultz would be my second favourite, I really enjoyed his more refined yet devious sounding performance. It fits a trickster rather well. His Wyrm in TMNT is basically him getting another shot in the role and it's great.

Kevin Michael Richardson really shines here too. It's great to see him show off his range and for the most part he fits well as Mxyzptlk well too.

Gilbert Mack and Frank Welker are both about on par with each other. Both of their voices are extremely fitting for this annoying pest from the fifth dimension.

J. Shannon Weaver sounds forced and too much like as Yoda for my liking. Definitely my least favourite voice here.

Except for Weaver, I like everyone here but I'll give my vote to Gilbert.

BONUS: I think Adam Sandler with some tweaking could work really well as Mr. Mxyzptlk, as would Tom Kenny, Rob Paulsen, Lee Tockar or Greg Ayres.

Hmm... Dwight sounds more refined, but Gilbert (Gottfried, not Mack) has a good script to support him, as well as making him sound wonderfully sneaky and devious.

Gilbert Gottfried, he just has that voice that's perfect for someone who's annoying. That's a weird backhanded compliment isn't it?

Kevin Michael Richardson is really showing his range and it works well.

Frank Welker is also really good as a trickster imp that's come to annoy you.

Dwight Schultz is a little more refined than the others, but I like it. I think it suits the character well.

1. Gibert Gottfried - Perfect casting. So abrasive and annoying sounding, which is exactly what this character should be like.
2. Gilbert Mack - The acting is pretty lackluster, but that voice is a perfect fit.
3. Dwight Schultz - Great at playing a more refined take on the character.
4. Kevin Michael Richardson - Points to Richardson for showing his range. It's so unlike most of his other roles, and it works.
5. Frank Welker - I don't think Mxyzptlk should have Go-Go the Dodo's voice.
6. J Shannon Weaver - Forced from the first line.

Frank Welker - Sounds like a voice you would imagine coming out of the character. He did pretty good.
Gilbert Gottfried - His voice is iconic, and really fits this version of the character.
Gilbert Mack - OK, not as good as Frank.
KMR - Glad to see him show off his range. Still sounds a little forced though.
Dwight Shultz - Pretty good. Sounds slightly more refined.
J Shannon Weaver - OK, not very memorable like a lot of the voice acting in that game. Good effort though.

It has to be Gottfried because that's pretty much how he sounds. He doesn't even have to try for his voice to be grating.

Going with Gilbert Gottfried, of course, though I have to give a big, BIG shout out to both Kevin Michael Richardson and Dwight Schultz. Both sound so great, I wish they had larger parts than a one-shot appearance and a not-that-great video game.

Gilbert Gottfried is my pick. Kevin Michael Richardson is my second favorite because it doesn't sound like his normal voice and I think it had potential even though he had one line.

Frank Welker version of Mxyzptlk is the best. I grew up with his version.

I agree with what jrcarter posted about Welker's later portrayals being less high-pitched.

Gilbert Gottfried just sounds so naturally comically annoying so he's perfect for this character. The other Gilbert is a close second, though.

The Brave and the Bold clip caught me by surprise. It's the exact opposite of a typical KMR character.

I'm choosing Gilbert Gottfried.

Am I the only one who think Frank Welker sounds like Michael Bell?

1. Both versions are annoying. Mxyzptlk reminds me of certain houseguests who overstay their welcome.

2. Voice wise:

Welker: To me, he's the definitive voice for Mxyzptlk. With his Toyman-esque voice, he sounds perfect when dealing with not only Superman, but the rest of the Superfriends.

Gottfried: His voice is unforgetable too, and his Mxyzptlk looks a lot more like his first appearance. My only problem is that I wanted to see Gottfried's Mxyzptlk using his 5th dimensional antics on the Justice League.

3. Pronounciation:

Welker: Mix-ill-plik

Gottfried: Mix-yes-pit-lick

Advantage: Frank Welker
