Ah Yoshi everyone's favorite little green Dinosaur that has been quite the regular in the series ever since the first SNES game namely Super Mario World.

And speaking of which his debut into North American animation is namely the Super Mario World animated series voiced by Andrew Sabiston. It might seem strange for him to be voiced by a guy but Andrew does do a fairly convincing cutesy higher voice so I am willing to give him credit for that. When it comes to Canadian Voice Talent Mr. Sabiston has been doing this for years but hasn't had that many roles at all let alone memorable ones. But still I would say that Yoshi in the SMW animated series is probably Andrews best work.

Now as for the games we have one of Nintendo's music composers Kazumi Totaka whom has been voicing Yoshi ever since Yoshi's story. Now normally we don't use Japanese Voice talent in BTVA's Voice compares since its kind of hard to understand Japanese audio clips but all things considered I think we can make an exception here. While Yoshi usually only says his name, Kazumi does do a lively performance for Yoshi's energetic personality with a very fitting voice.

So I must say both sides do definitely fit their respective roles for sure.

Kazumi will always be Yoshi while Andrew really misses the mark.

Kazumi, easily. Andrew Sabiston sounds like a Toad trying to imitate Yoshi.

I don't understand why Kazumi Totaka is used in the Yoshi voice compare, but Keiko Utoku is not used in the Sonic The Hedgehog voice compare.

@SalaComMander IIRC, this VC was made before the rule against non-English VAs. But, this belongs in the forums.

@pokemastanumba1 No, the difference is that Yoshi only makes sounds and short phrases (like his name), so Kazumi Totaka is considered acceptable for the purposes of this VC.

@NCZ Sorry for bringing this up again, but I just thought that this makes things a bit inconsistent, since Keiko Utoku's excluded from the Sonic VC because she's Japanese, even though she *does* speak English (albeit not much at all). Kazumi's Yoshi is pretty much the same case.

@pokemastanumba1 Yoshi isn't speaking a language. He just makes some noises (grunts, etc.) and says his name and "Nintendo". It'd be no different if he was voiced by an American. Sonic's case is someone who isn't an English voice actress saying two small phrases in English. If we included that, then we'd have to include Junichi Kanemaru just because he says random words in English, even though he's not an English voice actor. Or, as a hypothetical example, if there was no other dialogue in Street Fighter IV, Kyle Hebert wouldn't be a Japanese voice actor just because he says "Hadoken" or "Shoryuken" and otherwise doesn't know anything of the language.

@NCZ I see what you mean, I only thought that SalaComMander brought up a valid point, since it just didn't seem right. I'm not sure now though.

It would be funny if you guys also had sound clips of Yoshi's "SFX" voice from the 1990s.

Kazumi's voice really nails the character. So I'm voting for him.

Kazumi Totaka obviously. I'm not going to even bother explaining why.

1. Kazumi Totaka - Do I need a reason?
2. Andrew Sabiston- His Yoshi voice was hilarious!

My personal favorite, however, is his voice from Mario Kart 64, which I've heard is Isaac Marshall, but I don't know for sure.

I have a plush Yoshi by BD&A
I made him talk with a high pitched squeaky voice when I found him in the animal shelter!
Oh I'm very good with voice acting!

...the voice actors for Yoshi were males? I would never have thought!
I personally prefer Kazumi's voice, mostly because I've grown so used to it but also because it fits pretty darn perfect to it's character too!

I'll have to go with Kazumi because the talking version with the speech impediment is annoying, I don't know if you want to add the live action movie version if you want to count it he didn't talk but the noises he made were provided by Frank Welker.
