Street Fighter Street Fighter

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Sagat with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Street Fighter

Sagat is a Muay Thai champion and a rival of Ryu, who scarred him in the first tournament. Sagat is generally an honorable person and doesn't like when people fight with illegal tactics.

Sagat, his stance as the Emperor of Muay Thai and/or his stance in his alignment in general might be a bit uncertain but he is still one of the most prominent Muay Thai practitioners in his respective genre.

In the North American Street Fighter Animated series he is voiced by Ocean Group VA Robert O. Smith. To be blunt this is lets just say not one of his best handiwork granted he is not a bad VA in general but at least out of the original "big four" for Shadaloo, Sagot got the weakest. But to be fair often enough Robert didn't exactly get the best lines as Sagat either as Internet Memes love to point out. But Robert does have some half way decent moments and there were worst in this show but there were certainly better as well.

VA Peter "Skybyte" Spellos voiced Sagat in Street Fighter 2, namely both Street Fighter II V and the Animated movie. (Though Sagat didn't really say all that much of anything in the movie though.) While Sagat may have had a considerably nicer role in II V Peter Spellos' voice and performance for Sagat was indeed fitting for the Proud Veteran Muay Thai Champ.

And last but not least is his current English VA namely Isaac C. "Incognito" Singleton Jr. in Street Fighter 4. Its pretty clear that Capcom wanted to go for deep and menacing in which Isaac did deliver however his performance is also suiting on how Sagat is feeling flat out uncertain about his life right now.

Overall I would go with Peter Spellos as my first choice, Isaac C. Singleton Jr. as a close second and Robert O. Smith at third.

They call him the king for a reason. Those who dare to comment on this VC in the future, let me remind you that you're not warriors; you are beginners. I have an idea: you'll all be my - what's the word - mascots. You can rest and maybe have a snack... You like some cornflakes? HAHAHAHA!! My, how anyone can underestimate the Muay Thai Emperor.

So that said, Isaac C. Singleton Jr is easily the best Sagat thus far. The voice he uses for him is occasionally inconsistent in that sometimes the character sounds like a scary black man, and then there are other moments where he utilizes a faint accent. Generally speaking, though, Isaac does do Sagat justice. He's menacing, resonant, yet also uncertain about his life in the context of the SFIV plot. Peter Spellos is good, too, even though he doesn't come off nearly as unforgettable as the other two guys' performances. Meanwhile Robert O. Smith is memorable for various wrong reasons. The voice he was instructed to use is a tad lighter than both Spellos' or Isaac's, but that in and of itself isn't the problem - the delivery and piss-poor dialogue Smith had to work with really undermined his potential in the role. Meh.

Isaac C. Singleton Jr Tiger Genocides the rest of the competition. Try again, kids.

@CelestialOuroboros Completely agree. The other two simply cannot compare to mighty Isaac C. Singleton Jr.'s voice. He blows them in this VC miles away. Pretty much the Joker voice comparison of Street Fighter.

Does anyone think Fred Tatasciore or Richard Epcar would make a good Sagat?

Another toughie for me. Everyone in here does a good job as the evil yet honorable Thai fighter. I personally prefer Smith, because of the cool accent he added and it fitted Sagat's rather treacherous nature due to his disdain of being Bison's lackey, and he gave a quite impressive performance in the last episode of the series.

My Ranking:
1) Robert O. Smith
2) Isaac C. Singleton Jr.
3) Peter Spellos

Smith nor Spellos are that bad I suppose, but they've got nothing on Issac C. Singleton Jr.
