Star Wars Star Wars

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Rey with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Star Wars

The central character of the new Star Wars trilogy. A former salvager on the desert planet Jakku, a chance encounter with Finn and Han Solo changed her life forever. Rey possesses a knack for the ways of the Jedi, and trains with Luke Skywalker himself in order to further awaken them.

With The Last Jedi finally being out worldwide today, we're wrapping up the 10-day celebration with Rey herself.

Daisy Ridley actually has a decent track record of returning to voice Rey in her various voiced appearances. In addition to Disney Infinity I'd also note her work in Battlefront II, where she manages to really give it her all with the various battle lines and quotes. (Actually I had a hard time deciding which one to put in the VC, so this is kind of a plug.) Now incidentally, Helen Sadler actually voiced Rey in the alpha there, but they managed to get Daisy back for the final game.

Helen's impression of Daisy actually is quite close. Just like with Jyn she is an obvious choice since they are both English. She seems to hit hard on some lines, but also definitely feels comfortable handling comedic material in things like the Lego series. Of course, Daisy herself has had enough experience coming back to voice the role, along with working with decent directors, that she does just fine even without live-action.

Going to start before I begin to rant about the sequels...
1. Daisy Ridley
2. Helen Sadler

The sequel actors are all doing great jobs at carrying their performances over to voice work. Helen Salder does a fine job, but her Rey and Jyn sound too similar to me.

Daisy Ridley is the best here, but Helen Sadler is a very good substitute.

I thought Rey was okay she was a little too role modelish but she still did her job instead of being the alleged type, she was also not arrogant like some of these are

With that said Daisy Ridley though Helen was alright too

Is being a role model not typical of a hero?

@NCZ I meant she was too competent which can be common with main characters, I thought the number of things she did was kinda overkill

Well this IS Star Wars. Hypercompetence is the name of the game. Darth Vader built a complex, sentient droid and won the podrace as a literal child. Han is literally too cool to live. In a series that revolves around galaxy-spanning battles, out-of-this-world technology, and mystical powers, it's not too out of the ordinary for characters to go beyond the typical average joe or jane.

@NCZ As I said she did what she was meant to do instead of just being a 'progressive character' without actually being 'progressive'
said at 8:01 PM on Mon Mar 26 2018
@HienFan She's progressive in that she goes from not wanting to have any part in the conflict threatening the galaxy to recognizing her importance and that she's needed in preventing the dark side/First Order from taking control. She goes from just wanting to return home at the start and naively believing her parents will return to actively helping the Resistance and being the one to see Luke. She goes from fleeing when presented with the Anakin/Luke lightsaber to taking it up to stand her ground and face Kylo Ren. In short, she goes from a nobody to one of, if not the most important figures in the galaxy. And unlike Anakin, who was conceived by the Force itself, and Luke, who came from a prominent Force lineage, Rey could be anyone.

@gsbr I think I'm gonna expand on my thought I appreciate the idea of an actual proactive female and one who actually is proactive not those alleged ones that some of them are

However my problem was that she barely has any personality which is also another common problem

@HienFan With your first point, I agree. I too appreciate the idea of an actual proactive female and one who actually is proactive, not those alleged ones that some of them are. I think we can both agree that Rey is proactive.

But for your second point, I don't agree that she barely has any personality and I'm not sure if you're saying that this is "another common problem" with proactive female characters, so I apologize if I'm misreading you, but I don't see how that's "another common problem". I don't see a lot of examples to support that theory. Rey's personality is that she's hopelessly optimistic to the point of naivety, headstrong, and stubborn. She does not want to be part of a bigger story at first, but eventually realizes that she's needed and has to be part of it. She will stand by her beliefs almost to the point of absurdity until she can no longer.

I also don't know why this has to be about her gender. Gender is not a focal point of her character and no attention is brought to it. The story would not change if Rey was a man.

Siding with Daisy, I`m really surprised with how well all the original cast members from the sequel trilogy translate well into voice acting and she is no exception.

Helen Sadler is also good here but I prefer her as Jyn more. U know I`m starting to Helen might have some contract that she gets to voice all non leia main female protagonists if they are not available
