EDITOR'S OPINION

Obviously Carrie Fisher has portrayed the character the most times when you factor in live-action appearances and parodies, so she definitely has experience with the character. She makes a great on-camera Leia, but you can hear her inexperience in voice-over in the Holiday Special

In Star Wars: X-Wing, an Unknown Voice Actress plays Leia. Due to the nature of the video game, Leia doesn't get much dialogue, and unfortunately, I find her voice to be a little bland and masculine sounding.

Joyce Kurtz voices Leia in several video games. Joyce sounds enough like Carrie to be a passable substitute voice.

Next on the docket is Catherine Taber (who is also known for being one of the main voices of Padme). It's a good voice, but it doesn't really say "Princess Leia" to me.

Lisa Fuson voices Leia in the Masters of Teras Kasi video game, as well as The Empire Strikes Out. Lisa has a very commanding voice, which is good, given her role in the Lego special. But much like Catherine, it doesn't sound like Carrie.

For The Yoda Chronicles and Droid Tales, Heather Doerksen takes over the role. Heather's particular Leia is much more sassy than other versions of Leia. But I also find her voice to be a bit inconsistent. Sometimes it sounds a lot like Carrie, and other times...not so much.

This is a nice change of pace for April Winchell, who is usually cast as overbearing, loud-mouthed female characters. Not much to say about April's voice - it's passable.

Anna Graves voices Leia in Disney Infinity 3.0. Anna's voice is pretty subdued and lacks the commanding tone that other actresses gave her. It's a good voice overall, but again, not one of my favourites.

For EA's Star Wars: Battlefront, Misty Lee takes over the role. This is probably the best Carrie-replacement of the bunch, in my opinion. Misty can hit the highs, she can hit the lows, she manages to get a lot of range while maintaining her Carrie-like voice.

My vote goes to Misty.

For Voice Over Acting My Vote Goes To Shelby Young And Misty Lee As A Close Second

I really loved Ann Sachs in the NPR radio dramas. She really does a good job at making the performance her own. She sounds quite tough and authoritative, yet she could be quite sweet at some moments.

I always felt Carrie Fisher delivered the best performance out of the three leads in the Holiday Special. She does sound surprisingly good in there.

Lisa Fuson does a good imitation of Carrie. She sounds pretty commanding yet she could be pretty funny.

Joyce Kurtz is also good. She sounds slightly closer to Carrie, but I still prefer Lisa's attempt.

Catherine Taber also works.

The others range from decent to meh.

Julie Dolan sounds pretty cool in the role. She's in-between Carrie and Lisa.

Shelby Young is kinda meh.

"General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father's request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I'm afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope."

One problems with the Star Wars Legends universe being removed from canon (aside from the KOTOR games being rendered apocryphal materials) is the fact that a lot of Leia's greatest moments are gone..... especially her becoming a Awesome Jedi......

Anyway putting aside my complaints, Here are my Top 5 Favourite Princess Leia Voices:

5. April Winchell
4. Catherine Taber
3. Anna Graves/ Heather Doersken
2. Julie Dolan
1. Misty Lee

Honourable Mentions: Ann Sachs (from the NPR Radio Drama Adaptations) and.... of Course....Carrie Fisher (from the Original/Sequel Trilogy)

Future VA Suggestions:

I Think Eileen Stevens could be really solid in the role if given the chance. I get a certain Carrie Fisher vibe from her Kitty Pryde voice and I think if Stevens tweaked that voice to be more regal and commanding, it would work quite nicely for Leia.

For Some reason, I also think Stana Katic could be a really good voice for Princess Leia ..... Does anyone see what I mean?

RIP Carrie Fisher (1956-2016)..... You truly brought one of Fiction's Greatest and Most Iconic Princesses to life.....

Having listened to some of The NPR Star Wars radio dramas, I think Anna Graves' Leia voice sounds quite similar to Ann Sachs' Leia voice from the Radio Dramas.

Carrie Fisher was fantastic in live-action but reprising in the Holiday Special really didn't do her any favours.

I found most of the Leia's in this compare rather unimpressive.

I'm not really fond of the UVA, Joyce Kurtz or Lisa Fulton as they sound unremarkable to me.

Misty Lee is probably my favourites of the voices, as Tyler said she hits all the notes in the impression, plus she sounds the most commanding as Leia became less of a damsel in distress to a more in charge general type leader over the course of the series.

Catherine Taber was a neat and novel idea to voice Leia, since she did Padme however she's definitely better as Padme but it was a great idea nonetheless.

Heather Doersken sounds maybe a bit angrier than I'd like Leia to be but she still was really fun in the role. I know I'm biased since I love the Ocean VA's and the Lego Star Wars specials they've done were really fun to watch with all that said, I feel she does have a commanding quality to her which is nice. I hope she gets to do more of Leia.

April Winchell was a rather surprisingly good fit, I thought she'd sound too deep and butch sounding for the role but she's a lot more gentler and soft spoken than the characters I usually see her voice. I thought she was really effective at this playing against type role.

Anna Graves sounds maybe a bit too soft spoken in the role, I know she's the ANH Leia where she was a lot more younger however it still fits the depiction she's voicing.

Overall I'm giving my vote to Misty Lee. Who knew Paul Dini's wife could make a great Princess Leia?

The thing with the Star Wars Holiday Special is that most of them were very inexperienced with voiceover work. In some cases it never translates that well. So yeah, my vote is going to Misty Lee for this one.

No one here exactly nails it but I'll give it to Misty since she gives the best Carrie impression. As for Carrie herself, not only is she monotone but she shouts almost as loud as Anthony Hansen's Luke Skywalker.

@shadowlord Just to clarify I'm saying this based on the holiday special, in the live action movies Carrie does great.

Once again, I honestly WANT to pick Carrie Fisher, given she IS Leia in my book, but she sounds a bit monotone and dull here. Yet again, like I said before about Harrison Ford as Han Solo, her performances in the films are fantastic, though, I'd easily have picked her if that's what this was based on.

In terms of voice over (again), though, I'm giving this to Misty Lee, oddly she sounds more like Fisher does in the films, with more energy and spunk.

Catherine does a good job sounding different, yet making the role her own, and same goes for almost all the others here, except for...

UVA, who is clearly the worst here, as she sounds more masculine than I'd like, yet monotone at the same time.

In terms of live-action in the Original Trilogy, Carrie Fisher has it covered.

However; in terms of voice acting, I think that Taber is my personal favorite as she does a good impersonation of Fisher whilst doing her own thing. I wish she'd get more material.

Anna Graves is also good but I keep hearing Satine.

I'd love to hear Catherine Taber do a more refined take of Leia. She was awesome as the younger version in The Force Unleashed game, like a mix of both Natalie Portman and Carrie Fisher. It'd be cool to hear her reprise the role and improve on it.

Yeah, she's really nothing stellar in Force Unleashed 2, but I feel like her take in the first game is the most unique and interesting performance for this character. With that, I'm voting for her.

Joyce Kurtz and Misty Lee do pretty good Carrie Fisher impersonations though, I'll admit. The rest are nothing special, Carrie Fisher is SO much better in the movies.
