Luke Skywalker

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Luke Skywalker with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Star Wars

Luke Skywalker is the original protagonist of the Star Wars series, making his debut in the fourth (or first) episode of the series.

Luke was once an ordinary young man who lived his life as a farmer on the planet Tatooine, until one day when he met the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 and the hermit Ben Kenobi - otherwise known as the old Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Luke ends up going on an adventure to become a Jedi Knight and in spite of his initial reluctance, finds himself joining the Rebel Alliance. Though first known as a traditional young hero who is called to adventure, over the course of the franchise he becomes older and more experienced -- and sometimes even a mentor figure.

EDITOR'S OPINION

All right ladies and gents, here's the VC for the original hero of Star Wars... LUKE SKYWALKER! Let us begin...

Mark Hamill- Ah yes, the original role that made Mark Hamill a star, and to date is most known for (ahead of only his  clowning around in the early 90s.) Say what you will about the Holiday Special, but Mark is still the originator of the role, and his work in the special's animated segment manages to be pretty classic. Granted, he didn't have all that much material in the segment, but he still fits the role.

C Andrew Nelson-  C. Andrew's work on the role is... decent, but kind of generic. To be fair, Andrew's voice and performance suit Luke's heroic persona pretty well, but they're average at best really.

Bob Bergen- Unlike the others, Bob is playing an older and more experienced Jedi Knight, and he does a fine job with that, playing Luke as an authoritative, but caring, mentor figure. It's a fine example of Bob's work and a good example of the voice work in the Star Wars games.

Lloyd Floyd- Lloyd does a pretty good job in playing the role of a younger Luke. His voice is a bit nasal, but he still manages to provide a strong sense of anger and heroism.

Eric Bauza- Eric has a nice, heroic, youthful voice that makes him a natural for the role - and the actual performance works well with the show's comedic nature too.

Overall I am going with Bob the most, with Mark, Eric, and Lloyd at a close second, and C Andrew at a decent third.

As with the Joker, Mark Hamill is Luke Skywalker, one and only, both on camera and behind the booth.

On the other hand Bob Bergen, Christopher smith, and even Eric Bauza do a decent impression of him, even though the latter was more comedic.

And I know I said it before, but it bares repeating. Matt Mercer's Luke does not sound remotely similar to Mark Hamill seeing as how he's a baritone while Mark is closer to a Tennor, but I will say he definitely does a better job with the performance of Luke in terms the character's attitude and mannerism than most. (still hope to hear him as the Joker in the near future) Perhaps if he raised his pitch a bit he might sound closer to Mark.

BONUS: For a close sound-a-like, I think someone like Liam O'Brien, Ray Chase, Mick Wingert, Will Friedle, Josh Keaton, or of course James Arnold Taylor would make a good Luke Skywalker.

VC thoughts update

I honestly like Mark Hamill the most, mainly thanks to his performance in the NPR Star Wars radio dramas. He sounded really passionate and energetic in there. He doesn't sound that bad in the Holiday Special, but his performance in the radio dramas is just great.

Bob Bergen sounds a lot like Joshua Fardon (who played Luke in the NPR adaptation of Return of the Jedi). He delivers a really great performance IMO, and he's a natural replacement for Hamill.

Eric Bauza is pretty impressive. He sounds pretty similar to Mark. He does work for the Lego version and he's pretty hilarious.

Christopher Smith also sounds pretty good.

C. Andrew Nelson is decent.

Lloyd Floyd and Anthony Hansen don't do it for me.

Obviously I'm picking Hamill since he's terrific as Luke both on camera and off... Bob Bergen's a very good impersonator as he sounds near close to Hamill.

As for the others I enjoyed Bauza, thought he was funny and Corey Smith was a neat surprise.

But oh good lord, Hansen, Hansen, Hansen, what voice direction will they giving you?

Almost half the time he SHOUTS ALL HIS LINES LIKE THIS AND IT GETS TIRING TO HEAR VERY QUICKLY. Not only that but he sounds nothin like Hamill at all and just sounds more like a character off a anime (to which surprise, surprise, he then went on to do a Star Ocean game).

It's oh so clear that the voice direction is the one to blame here and if Hansen does return for the sequel, please give him better direction guys, please!

Honestly even though I didn't give my vote to Harrison Ford for Han Solo. I'm going to give my vote to Mark Hamill, sure he's only voiced Luke in the Holiday Specials However he did voice him in the NPR Radio Dramas of Star Wars, while I haven't heard the whole thing, based on a video I saw of them doing the radio drama, Mark sounded fantastic as Luke. Plus while I do like some of the actors here, they don't exactly 100% click with me. I know if Mark were to try to voice him now, it'd have to be an older Luke since his voice got a lot rougher over the years but I still feel I can't give my vote to anyone else here.

Bob Bergen does sound the closest to Hamill however it still sounds recognizably himself, he does seem to work really well for the older Post-ROTJ Luke.

Eric Bauza really was tons of fun as Luke, he's a bit lighter sounding than Hamill and sounds weirdly enough like Yuri Lowenthal at times but he really worked very well in the specials. He might be my second favourite.

Christopher Corey Smith is also pretty enjoyable in the role. He sounds maybe a bit too old for ANH Luke but it gets the job done, plus like Hamill and Floyd, Smith too has voiced The Joker.

Lloyd Floyd is alright, a bit one note but alright. He sounds a lot like Steve Staley at times.

C. Andrew Nelson is generic but passable.

Anthony Hansen is the worst one here, HE OVERSHOUTED ALL OF HIS LINES! I wish anyone else above reprise or picked somebody else...anyone else might have been better. It's probably the direction but still he was pretty bad.

So yeah I'm gonna give it to Mark Hamill. He probably will be the only one here from the movies who reprise in the specials and nothing else. I'll vote for him as in my heart, he truly is Luke Skywalker.

Anthony Hansen's performance is awful. It's a shame, because without the forced shouting, he could have been decent. Alas, he's the worst one here.

I love Mark Hamill, but I gotta change my vote to Bob Bergen, which I think is more fair. Yes, Bob is a carbon copy, but it's an outstanding replica of Mark. Mark only voiced him once, whereas Bob got to voice him several times, while doing all eras of Luke's life justice (young rookie, jedi in training, then finally Jedi master).

Shame Bergen couldn't have been reused for Battlefront, or even Mark Hamill. Yes, he's getting older but he doesn't sound THAT much different to where he couldn't sound convincing as any version of Luke.

Well Anthony sounds both generic and nothing like Mark did and yells everything (which is likely the directorial problem than an acting one), so not the best first impression if they plan on bringing him back. Though it's odd that while Vader, Palpatine, and Han got their most common recent VAs back that they didn't bring back Lloyd. Maybe it's scheduling, maybe they just really wanted Anthony, who knows.

@Ghosty404 Anyhow..

1. Mark Hamill - What can I say? He IS the Joker.. I mean he IS the Skywalker. Unfortunately, the only time he had the chance to voice him was in the Christmas Special. Hopefully he'll lend his voice one day for an older Luke.

2. Bob Bergen - What a change of direction. Not only does he pull off a good performance as Luke, but it shows how well he can act the part. A great example of his work and how he's not just Porky Pig.

3. Eric Bauza - Third place goes to Eric. He's a really good cast for Luke, and can pull off this heroic-comedic persona of him well. Hopefully he'll be cast in a future project where he's more on the canon line. Still, really good.

4. Lloyd Floyd - He's decent, but the tone he gives Luke makes me think he was scrunching his face when delivering his lines. Still, not a bad performance.

5. C Andrew Nelson - Brief.. and eh. I've heard better from the above, but I won't consider it bad. Even if he had more lines, it would still be generic.

6. Christopher Corey Smith - Iiiii don't hear anything from Corey. He's a really good actor, but his performance isn't anything to write home about. It's just a "Hey how you doing, I'm doing good!" kind of voice. Really casual and not really fitting Luke a ton.

7. Anthony Hansen - I AM GOING TO YELL EVERY LINE AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME, VADER! I'm sure this is more of the director's fault than the actor, but he's down on the bottom for a reason. Maybe he'd do better with better direction, at least above Corey and Andrew. Still, definitely my least favorite.

I feel kinda bad, voting for Mark and everything, especially since he only got to voice him in the crap Holiday special... but come on, he just is the character. Bob sounds closest to his take, yet more reserved, which works for the post ROTJ, wise jedi master version.

@Ross123 There's already a bunch a stories in the universe that take place after VI, canonically in the books and comics so a bunch of stuff already happened afterwards. I'd rather see that animated than live action honestly. I hope it's an adaption of the Legacy Of The Force seres where Luke, Leia, and Han are quite aged. Granted 9 books can't be covered in 3 movies so maybe they'lll just cover the main plot which is Jacen Solo becoming Darth Caedus.
