Mr. Krabs

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Mr. Krabs with sound clips and images.
Franchise: SpongeBob SquarePants

Mr. Eugene H. Krabs is SpongeBob's cheapskate boss on the show "SpongeBob SquarePants" and the owner of the Krusty Krab. He's also a former armyman and talks like a pirate, particularly with his distinctive laugh.

For our first SpongeBob voice comparison, we'll start out with one of the main characters: Mr. Krabs. In the TV show and the movie, he is voiced by Clancy Brown, who brought a distinctive, gruff voice that fit Mr. Krabs' sailor attitude very well.

In most of the SpongeBob video games when Clancy Brown is unavailable, Joe Whyte provides the voice instead. IMO he does a a pretty decent impression of Brown, but it doesn't have quite the same gruff, salty sailor quality. Bob Joles' take really impressed me; if I didn't know better, I'd think he really was Clancy!

In the end, my vote goes to Clancy Brown.

Clancy Brown FTW! If they were to get a new Mr. Krabs to replace Clancy, I would like to hear Lex Lang.

1. Clancy Brown, obviously. He sounds best in older episodes when the deep voice suits Mr. Krabs. He still do a good job, but not as much as he did earlier, as his voice gotten a little bit high pitch for the character.
?. Bob Joles: Hadn't played the game, but he sounds too high pitched.
?. Joe Whyte: Like with Mermaid Man, his voice didn't fit the character. Way too pitched and didn't feel right for him.

I feel I should expand on my thoughts. Clancy Brown is obviously classic. Joe Whyte is a great replacement- the voice isn't really a match, but his spirit and joy is present. I feel the opposite about Joles- the voice is there but the joy isn't.

Clancy Brown. The others don't even compare, but that being said, I prefer Joe's deeper timbre and Bob's delivery between the other two performances: Joe struggles to emote properly, while Bob's voice is too high pitched, IMO.

1. Clancy Brown: Brown's voice is what made this character memorable. The pirate laugh, the gruffness and the hilarious moments.
2. Bob Joles: Joles does a decent Brown impression but you can tell the pitch of his voice is a little too high.
3. Joe Whyte: Whyte's voice is unique for being its own take on Eugene but you can tell this isn't Clancy.

Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs is easily one of the most unique character's Clancy has voiced in his career. Clancy's usually typecast as a villain and yes Krabs has been the antagonist of his fair share of episodes doing some pretty nasty stuff, it's still one of his more morally ambiguous type of characters and the rough and rugged sounding voice of his just fits this former sailor and soldier. Mr. Krabs is easily my favourite role of Clancy Brown, it's been mine since I was a kid and still is to this date.

Bob Joles is a surprisingly decent fill in voice for Mr. Krabs, he sorta sounds like Clancy even if he's a bit forced sounding.

Joe Whyte sounds way too young and light as Mr. Krabs. He sounds more like a leprechaun than say a sailor. I kinda feel bad for Joe, they keep casting him as characters he's just not a good fit for.

In the end it's safe to say that Clancy Brown IS Mr. Krabs and he's got my vote for sure.

1) Clancy Brown- Perfect fit, he sounds like a weathered, rugged Sailor, he IS Mr. Krabs.
2) Joe Whyte- Pretty good impression, but he sounds way too young.
3) Bob Joles- Okay, though he sounds like he's forcing him to do a Sailor's accent there.

Bob Joles' take is a bit too high, but I personally think it's alright. Joe Whyte is pretty good too, but it's kind of hard to hear the audio. Let's face it, though, there's no way I CAN'T give this to Clancy Brown.

@Michaelsar If Bob would lower the pitch of his voice and watch plenty of SpongeBob episodes, then maybe he can get the voice precisely.

So I'll vote for Mr. Brown.

What's Clancy Brown been doing at during the time of Battle for Bikini Bottom and Such, leaving him Unable to Voice Mr. Krabs? He's done Voice Over for Many Video Games, notably as the Main Antagonist of the Crash Bandicoot Series.

@CuriousUserX90 Maybe he was preoccupied with voicing Mr Krabs in the actual show.

Clancy Brown IS Mr.Krabs. Sadly it's ironic how in the games Mr.Krabs is a likeable funny boss, but recently on the show, he gets more corrupt by the episode.

To be honest both of the stand ins fall flat.

Joe Whyte, while he does sound like a gruff, old sailor,he completly lacks Clancys baritone voice that gave a lot more credibility to mr.krabs experience as rough and tough, former navy, captain.

Bob Joles, how do i put it,remeber when ever you see a male cartoon charcater dressing up as a woman and puting on a falseto voice, that abou it,he sounds mr.krabs trying to sund like a woman.

Theres no contest Clancy Brown is the one and only mr.krabs

I remember playing the Battle for Bikini Bottom game and being so confused by Krabs' new voice. It was very jarring. Clancy all the way.

But yeah, Brown gets my vote.

Clancy will always be Mr.Krabs 2 every1 but if something were 2 happen 2 him Joe would have 2 come in full time but I hope that doesn't happen. Yet again I might have jinxed that.

Bob sounds nothing like mr. Krabs in fact he sounds annoying & has a bit of a Scottish accent when voicing him.
said at 1:52 AM on Tue Feb 17 2015
@Ross123 Bob doesn't seem the kind to be able to have a very comical voice to start with

Joe Whyte was okay here, better than his Mermaidman and better than Bob anyways, though I am still on the side that says Clancy should try to stick with Mr Krabs as much as possible and only resort to Joe if he's busy with other work, Bob is not meant for Spongebob
said at 1:27 PM on Tue Feb 17 2015
@HienFan Usually Bob is a good/decent stand in for characters but unfortunately doesn't work out to well for the likes of Mr. Krabs.

And I agree with you on Joe by the way.
said at 7:55 PM on Tue Feb 17 2015
@Ross123 And I recalled Bob voiced Manta Ray in the same game Joe Alaskey voiced Mermaid Man, better as that character than he was here as well
