EDITOR'S OPINION

It's time for a VC for another one of Spider Man's Rogues Gallery namely Tombstone. Sure when it comes to screen-time in adaptations he is no Venom or Green Goblin and the like but he does often give a menacing presence when he does appear.

In the FOX Kids 90's Spider-Man Animated series while his backstory is fairly different he gets his more traditional role of an enforcer for hire. Voice actor Dorian Harewood voiced Tombstone and I must say he was a genuinely good fit, Dorian was able to do a low gruff voice and his performance certainly fitted Tombstone's vicious manipulative persona.

Tombstone hasn't been voiced by anyone for a while until recently in The Spectacular Spider-Man when he has a villainous but a bit more Lex Luthor-esque role. However Tombstone actually had 2 VAs in this show namely Keith David and Kevin Michael Richardson and to be honest yeah this is kind of like the Despero Voice Compare all over again. However unlike Despero they voiced Tombstone in the same show, Keith David voiced him in his first appearance in "Survival of the Fittest" while Kevin Michael Richardson for the rest of the series. And yeah Keith David was indeed just fine for the role for a low deep smooth though sinister tone though Kevin Michael Richardson is also a fine alternative as well. (And yes this is quite possibly the first time we find out how Kevin Michael Richardson can make a good stand-in for Keith David.)

Overall all 3 of them are great, Keith David was of course a grand fit though Kevin Michael Richardson and Dorian Harewood are very good as well.

(Update: Nolan North voiced Tombstone in Marvel Heroes in which sadly he had very little material to go with but at least his voice was decent enough for the role. So in other words Nolan may be the weakest one here so far but his voice does have potential so he could've been better if he had a lot more material here.)

I wish Keith David can be Tombstone in an Amazing Spider-Man movie, but then he's too old for that. :/

Surprised to see Keith David as number one. I'm kinda convinced there's a reason he was replaced.

@Guy110 Yeah, because he had some responsibilities to Broadway and couldn't be scheduled for more episodes.

I'm going with Kevin Michael Richardson, sounds like a true gangsta/mobster for someone like Tombstone

@llawliet159 you know what, I think I'll change my vote to Keith David because his take made Tombstone more mysterious and evil. He really needs to reprise his role one day...

1. Kevin Michael Richardson - Just perfection for this character.
2. Keith David - He would've been perfect too had he been available to continue.
3. Dorian Harewood - A fitting voice, but Richardson could probably pull that off better.
4. Nolan North - Tombstone is white, but he isn't WHITE. Therefore, a white guy should not be voicing him!

@Galactic_Cyrus Now that seems like a pretty unfair statement there :/ Especially one so belittling of North's voice-acting abilities.

@Galactic_Cyrus
But Nolan North voiced War Machine, and with that he's shown that he can imitate the African-American accent very well. I agree with CatsTuxedo that that statement is a bit unfair.

@TheVengeanceKnight I don't mean to be racist or unfair, and I do like Nolan North. I just don't think he was the right choice for this part. Just because a VA can play just about anyone doesn't mean to needs to be cast as just about anyone.

@Galactic_Cyrus If you really don't mean to be racist, you should definitely cut that kind of talk from now on.

In the voice-acting industry, versatility and acting ability, not color, are what is relevant, and if North is skilled enough to portray a black, then there really shouldn't be anything to stop him from doing so. The fact that you take such issue with that says a lot more about you than it does anyone else.
Music Meister (Moderator)

@CatsTuxedo You worded that awkwardly "'skilled enough to play a black" sounds wrong...

@Galactic_Cyrus I don't really want to get deeply into this kind of talk because of the site's rules, but I gotta agree with CatsTuxedo. That really doesn't matter when it comes to voice-acting. It's the one method of acting that supports being able to dive into just about any kind of role ever, and limiting it like that kinda messes with the magic. Ya know?

@PsychicVoiceSpy Fine. As long as the voice sounds fitting enough for the character, I could accept a white dude behind the mic. But I still don't think Nolan North was right for this role.

@Galactic_Cyrus I agree with that to an extent. I haven't heard a lot of actors who can disguise their race well enough that I don't notice, but for an example, Fred Tatasciore can pull it off pretty well (his Blade voice).

I worded that response poorly. I sometimes jump the gun and reply to someone's reply to me out of habit... without thinking it through very well. I don't doubt there are plenty of actors, those two both of you just mentioned included, who excel at that, but I just totally failed at getting what I wanted to say written out coherently. I'm sorry if I sounded ignorant.

To be honest I prefer Dorian as Tombstone is meant 2 be a tough character but Keith & Kevin were both very good but that version I thought was being 2 nice 2 spidey by offering him a job rather than attack him.
D.A.V.E.
said at 4:54 PM on Sun Aug 4 2013
@Ross123 That's because that version was an intelligent crime lord that was avoiding getting in trouble and ruining his crime operations, while the 90's version, he was just a thug.

@D.A.V.E. I know this may seem unfair 2 do this but in Animated Series of Spiderman, the Kingpin was also a crime lord trying 2 avoid the same stuff but he was ruthless against the webhead, always trying 2 have him destroyed all the time so I don't see the reason why Tombstone in Spectacular Spiderman had 2 be different.

A lot of the time, I tend to let how a character traditionally influence how I voted.

This, like with Toad, isn't one of those times. All three are good, but I'm giving this one to Keith David.

I go with Keith David, his amazing voice, no matter if villain or not, is blessing to hear, although he definetely has ;it; with villains. It was also nice to see Weisman and David working together once more.
But even though i missed Keith David after debut, Kevin filled his shoes with competence, giving character same kind of unemotional and cold, yet calculating and calm behavior and intellect, and i have nothing to complain about his follow-up.
