Spider Man 2099

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Spider Man 2099 with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Spider-Man

The 2099 version of Spider Man is a futuristic version of Spider Man whom made his comic book debut in the The Amazing Spider Man #365 back in August of 1992. The Civilian identity of the 2099 version of Spider Man is Miguel O'Hara a scientist at Alchemax and he gained his Spider powers when a jealous subordinate sabotaged one of his experiments. Miguel was originally a loyal employee of Alchemax until he found out all the terrible things that Alchemax and other corporations have done in this world and is fighting the forces of evil as Spider Man. While there are plenty of Spider Man Video games that treat "Spider Man 2099" as an alternate costume for the original Spider man this is for the productions that treat Miguel/Spider Man 2099 as a completely separate and unique character.

Today on the Spider Man VC section we shall take a look at the 2099 version of Spider Man himself! The 2099 version of Spidey made his debut (as a character not as a alternate costume) in 2010 for the game Spider Man Shattered Dimensions voiced by Dan Gilvezan. Some did find it a bit strange that Dan Gilvezan would be playing a version of Spider Man with a fairly "darker" design (including Dan Gilvezan himself) but I had no major problems with Dan's work on the role. Dan's voice and performance for the role does work for the role pretty well as it does have a good sense of charm to it as he plays the role as the charismatic web-slinger that Spidey is. Granted in the game Shattered Dimensions did try to make 2099 Spider Man a bit more like his original counterpart but Dan Gilvazan's performance for the role is a solid example of the voice acting in the game.

In Spider Man Edge of Time, 2099 Spiderman was played by another VA whom has voiced the original Spider Man in the past and this time its Christopher Daniel Barnes. Chris seems to have played the role a bit differently than Dan did as Chris plays the role of Spider Man 2099 a bit more seriously (but not too stoic I can assure you). While anyone whom has watched the 90's Spider Man animated series can easily tell that Christopher is voicing 2099 Spider Man here but with his somewhat lower voice and more somber performance it does felt a bit different from his work as Spiderman in the 90's animated series and I will say that its a fine example of Christopher's voice work. Overall I am going with both of these guys here as both of these guys did rather well with the role here.

VC thoughts update

I really like Dan Gilvezan the most in the role. He has a nice sense of humor and he really seems to be having fun in the role.

Freddy Rodriguez really fits the role pretty nicely as well. He has a nice aggressive sound on his voice.

Yuri Lowenthal also works in the role.

As much as I like Christopher Daniel Barnes as standard Spidey and Noir Spidey, I'm really not big on his 2099 Spidey. I would have preferred if they had brought Dan back.

1. CDB- just a perfect fit
2. Dan- a little jokey, but still a good performance
3. Freddy- kinda fake-sounding and off
4. Yuri- Peter! Why are you in Miguel's suit?

Christopher Daniel Barnes is excellent as Spider-Man 2099 he has a great deep voice for this more mature incarnation of Spider-Man. Is it just me or does he sound like Loren Lester?

Freddy Rodriguez is a close second, not as memorable as CDB but he still fits this role nicely.

Yuri Lowenthal is generic but passable.

Dan Gilvezan...I'm sorry, I really appreciate the gesture of bringing back one of the old voices of Spider-Man back for a new incarnation of the character but Dan sounds way too old for the character, he also seems maybe way too light-hearted for the role too...it's like he's trying to voice the Peter Parker he voiced in the 80's but he's not he's voicing Miguel O'Hara and I don't hear a trace of the character in his voice.

BONUS: In all fairness Dan should never have been Spider-Man 2099, I've always thought that should have been Rino Romano. Seriously he'd be pitch perfect for Miguel. Alas.....at least CDB is the next best thing to him. I could see Sam Vincent, Tom Kenny, Eric Bauza, Carlos Alazraqui or Eric Lopez voicing this character someday.

@Autovolt Agreed, Rino Romano is a perfect fit for this role. He hasn't done much voice acting in a while, but I'd love to hear him as Miguel O' Hara.

Freddy is pretty good but I'm stickin with Christopher.

Overall, I'd place Freddy 2nd.

I didn't notice the effect on Freddy's voice before. I think he is a little too angsty, I get the character is the opposite of Peter but he comes off as whiny at times.

CDB fits the haracter a lot better, pulling off somber but still allows the character to have personality.

I use to like Dan, I still do because he is a lot of fun, but he is a little too cheery for Miguel.

Yuri is just a copy paste of his Spiderman voice.

Christopher D Barnes is Spiderman 2099, he pulls off Miguel perfectly since the creators of Spiderman 2099 wanted him to be opposite of peter parker. My vote goes to him, marvel should let him still voice the character.

Rino Romano as Miguel O Hara!
said at 11:48 AM on Wed Feb 4 2015
@HyperVoiceActing It's funny, since Rino Romano was Spider-Man in the 2000 Spider-Man video game...where Spider-Man 2099 was available as an alternate costume.

Christopher Barnes...if Josh Keaton is Spider-Man/Peter Parker, then it's obvious that Chris deserves the mantle of Spider-Man 2099...and his voice fits for a serious character like him

@Ross123 As Peter, Yuri is pretty good, but as Miguel he is pretty bad.

@Netherman14 I agree with you that he's bad as Miguel. As for Peter, well its all opinions. You like him as Peter, I don't.

@Ross123 I thought he was okay as regular Spidey but as this... well...

@HienFan I agree with you on that last part.

If you like Yuri as regular Spidey, then good more power to you and everyone else that does.

But to me, I just didn't enjoy him as both.

Not to sound rude and don't think I'm directly talking to you when I say this but hearing me go over not liking his performance again is kinda getting old & stale since its like the 3rd time now I've mentioned it.

Plus people will get bored of me reiterating something I've already decussed. Even I'm a bit bored of repeating myself.

F***!!! I went back to the Spiderman VC only to discover that I said positive things about Yuri as the Webhead himself.

So I listened to the clip again and those positive things I originally said were true.

I somehow managed to get him and Mikey mixed up or I forgot he was pretty good because he's in a game with terrible voice acting for the most part.

Everyone forget what I said about him not being good as normal Spidey.

He is bad at voicing the 2099 version though as I mentioned above. Just decided to reevaluate since I got confused for a moment.

Barnes is the best hands-down. 2099 is well known for sounding gruffer than Pete is, and he never makes jokes when in costume, he's pretty much the opposite of Pete.

You know, if it weren't for the mention of Alchemax, I'd wonder if Yuri's version of Miguel wasn't just a reskin of his Peter.

Yuri is just a basic copy of his Spiderman voice, they got someone else to be Scarlet Spider why not another to be Miguel?

(yes that was all I was able to find of him in SHSO, he doesn't have as many taunts and there aren't that many non Let's Plays of his gameplay)

CD Barnes is what I imagined the character would sound like to me. Dan's voice was a tad bit off putting to me. Since they were bringing back several Spider-Man VA's I think Rino Romano would have fit very well.

Wow, I didn't know that Dan Gilvezan was still voice acting! Well, he did a good job with the character and it's definitely a great example of his acting. Christopher Daniel Barnes is also very good with a dark and serious tone that still doesn't feel bland or monotone. Overall, I'd say that it's a matter of personal preference.
said at 8:08 AM on Thu Apr 26 2012
Dan Gilvezan was my pick. Although I do wish his voice was a tad more gruff, especially when angry or yelling. But, I digress. Plus, I'm more used to the voice acting in Shattered Dimensions comparing it to Edge of Time.

Christopher Daniel Barnes is essentially just reusing his Spider-Man Noir voice from Shattered Dimensions. & when you take that voice & put into 2099, it feels out of place, to me, it doesn't fit it all.
His take sounds a little too deep, dark & harsh. If he played a little softer & somewhat higher, it'd be perfect, but that's just my personal opinion. Please feel free to think otherwise.

Spider-Man 2099 seems more like a darker version of regular Spider-Man, and I think Chris captures that essence better. Dan actually isn't too bad despite the seemingly more light-hearted performance.

I gotta go with Christopher Daniel Barnes here, as from what I've seen his performace as Miguel O'Hara is one in-line with how the character is in the comics than Dan Gilvezan's versions who was more like the classic Spidey rather than the S-Man (to use Spider-Man 2099's nickname).

In Shattered Dimensions, 2099 was rewritten to fit with whatever Gilvezan was familiar with. Barnes plays 2099 as he's portrayed in the comics. Gonna go with Barnes.

Gotta say, he's a LOT better than he was in the 90s Spider-man
