Jeff Bennett is a great Montana, but he doesn't really fit Shocker that well.

Steve Blum sounds a little like his Wolverine, but other than that it sounds fantastic.

I have to say Michael Beattie's Shocker definitely stands out here, he gives Shocker a very tough and professional sounding voice.

Jim Cummings is very menacing with his take.

Steve Blum is typecast but these are the kind of characters that Blum is a natural at playing.

Daran Norris is also rather fitting.

Liam O'Brien and Michael J. Gough are both fitting despite the limited amount of material they had to work with.

John Stephenson is a natural fit but the effects they added on to his voice detracts from his performance, it makes him sound like an alien robot instead of a thug.

Brian George is decent also.

Ryan Alosio strikes a weird balance between being somewhat menacing and whiny and pathetic.

David Boat sounds too whiny in the role.

Greg Cipes is ill-fitting.

Jeff Bennett and Troy Baker are both the Montana Shockers instead of the Herman Schultz version, they're both great fits, of the two I of course prefer Jeff.

Ultimately I'm going with the Herman Schultz version of the character and my favourite one here is Michael Beattie, so he's got my vote.

BONUS: I think Brian Drummond, Nolan North, Rick D. Wasserman, Travis Willingham or Scott McNeil would be a great fits for Shocker.

Actually, I think, despite voicing both Shocker and Montana, Troy's just voicing two different characters.

I do these overly long comic book opinions on occasion, but I didn't think I would have this much to say about Shocker of all people.

John Stephenson: The voice and filter is kind of neat, but why Shocker? It just doesn't gel with the character. The guy is a thug, not a melodramatic alien invader.

Jim Cummings: A real great voice from Jim here. Very unique and really cool sounding. I think he overdoes it on the menace a bit though. He sounds downright monstrous at times.

Daran Norris: I certainly get what he's going for. He's too slimy for my tastes. I keep expecting him to try and sell me a used car or something.

Michael Beattie: He's perfect. Michael nails the voice of a hardened criminal thug without ever being too menacing or too goofy. It's the perfect balance. I also found his fr u stration with Spidey really funny. I've gotta vote for him.

Brian George: Not a big fan of ultimate Shocker, but he plays the part well.

Jeff Bennett: I'm also not a huge fan of Montana as Shocker. He plays the part really, really well. It's just not my thing.

Liam O'Brien: He does alright job making Shocker sound like a tough thug. Not much to it though.

Michael J. Gough: Same as Liam. He's adequate for what little he has.

Steve Blum: Same as Michael, same as Liam. He's fine, but lacking in material.

Dave Boat: He's a little too light I think. Makes him sound kind of whiny, not a big fan.

Greg Cipes: Greg doesn't sound very convincing. He clearly is trying to push himself deeper and rougher than he can go. A solid miscast for Shocker.

Ryan Alolsio: He kind of falls into the same area as Dave Boat. Too light and whiny for Shocker.

Troy Baker: And we're back to Montana. It seems that Troy get much to do so we don't really get to gear a good range for him. Personally, I think Troy would be pretty good as regular Shocker.

Like I said earlier, Michael Beattie gets my vote.

 3 Shout Outs!
1. Michael Beattie: Badass, authoritative, confident... what's not to like about Michael's Shocker? He is absolutely perfect for the role.

2. Jeff Bennett: Having Montana become Shocker as opposed to Herman Schultz is... interesting to say the least, but it works pretty well! Jeff's Shocker sounds perfectly cool-headed and intimidating, and the low southern accent is an awesome touch, it almost makes him feel like a villain from an old western flick.

3. Jim Cummings: While you can tell that this is Jim Cummings doing a standard villain voice, this is hardly as bad thing as Jim's deep and menacing voice is very suitable for the Shocker.

4. Ryan Alolsio: I feel that I like his take better than most: he makes Shocker sound perfectly cocky and slimy whenever he's feeling confident, and fittingly pathetic and whiny when he's whipped. Given that the Shocker tends to be written as either badass or pathetic, Ryan makes for a great joke Shocker.

5. Brian George/Dave Boat: Like with Ryan, Brian does a great job as a loser incarnation of the Shocker. As for Dave, I'm not sure if his Shocker is meant to be a loser, but it's still a good take and very similar to Brian's.

6. John Stephenson: The vocal effects are a bit much, but I quite like his Shocker voice all the same, it's very authoritative and powerful sounding.

7. Michael J. Gough: His voice is higher than I'd like, but it's a nice voice either way. It's suitably thuggish and something that I could imagine the Shocker sounding like.

8. Daran Norris/Steve Blum: Both of them are decent, but could use improvement. Daran I feel could do the role better nowadays, and Steve's Rhino voice is a much better Shocker voice than his actual Shocker voice.

9. Liam O'Brien: Very forced sounding, which is kind of sad since the Shocker is the kind of role I thought would be right up Liam's alley. It's probably due to shaky voice direction though.

10. Greg Sipes: Very, very unfitting. He sounds like a teenager trying to act tough, which is bad for even the more pathetic incarnations of the Shocker. A very blatant miscast and just not a good performance in the slightest.

Even though I loved the Montana version of Shocker from SSM, it didn't exactly fit the comics version, whereas Jim Cummings's voice sounded just like how I imagine Herman Shultz sounding, so I guess I'll vote for him, but Steve Blum and Michael Beattie were really good too. Personally, I like Shocker better as the "evil but sane" type of villain, but I think David Boat's impression fits another Spider- villain, the Looter, better than Shocker.

John works extremely well in the role, especially coming from a show like that, and the vocal effects work pretty well for him as well, and while it does sound like a throwback to some of the 60s cartoon villains in superhero shows, it still works especially well. I don't know maybe I'm biast because I love John's work so much but I do think it is a great performance. 7.5/10

Jim is just fantastic in this role. this voice works well like many of Jims other voices for villains and it sounds very slimy and raspy which works very well for the characterization of the shocker in the 90s show, plus that laugh is just fantastic. 8.5/10

Daran sounds okay in the role but doesn't really have all that much to go off of and to be honest it sounds kind of like jsut a generic thug almost. Not much to it to leave all that much of an impression. 5/10

Michael sounds very deep and fitting in the role, and at a couple lines sounds almost like Tom F. Wilson. Not much to really say about the role, just a good performance form Beattie. 7/10

Brians voice works well I think in this role, but I really wish he was given more dialogue since I think the voice he used from what I heard sounds pretty good. 6.5/10

Jeff's Montana voice does sound kind of distracting in this role, but I got over it pretty quickly after a while, due to his great southern rasp in his voice which worked extremely well with this character. 8/10

Liam, Michael, Greg, and Steve all have almost nothing to go off of with this role and each just sounds like a generic thug voice like Daran so they don't really leave all that much of an impact. 5/10

David sounds pretty interesting in the role and sounds much more nasally which I think does fit, and I do think he worked well with the role, and wouldn't actually mind hearing him again in this role. 6/10

1. Jim
2. Jeff
3. John
4. Michael
5. Brian
6. David
7. Daran, Greg, Liam, Steve, Gough

As for Greg Cipes-TOTAL MISCAST!
said at 12:24 PM on Fri Feb 6 2015
@DVJ - In Jeff's defense, that version of Shocker is actually an amalgamation of two different characters: Shocker and Montana of the Enforcers. I didn't mind the amalgamation as much, but I can understand how it'd be off putting for some.

Greg Cipes' Shocker does well as I'd accept of Greg Cipes Shocker to go. He's kinda a miscast, sounding too young, not deep enough and lacks a gruffness. Although hearing him makes me think he could do a Scott Menville impression.

I actually wonder, if David and Greg should have switched roles?
David's naturally gruff and deep voice would fit Shocker and Greg could have done a campy high raspy voice for Electro. Eh, maybe I'm wrong

My idea of the definitive Shocker is a mix between Michael Beattie and Daran Norris. Michael sounds perfectly like a cocky, bruiser thug, but Daran also takes his time with his lines more and makes Shocker sound a bit more evil, and in my eyes, that gives his Shocker a little more presence in that regard.

They're both very good, but I imagine Shocker to sound like Michael Beattie's voice and acting except with a slightly more psychotic and evil delivery on some of his lines like with Daran's. Therefore, I would almost tie the two, but at the end of the day I'm giving my vote to Michael Beattie.

#2. Daran Norris. Same reason why I chose Mike.
#3. Jim Cummings. He's a bit too sinister in Shocker's role, now I like villains being extremely sinister, but it does no fit the Shocker.

I actually really like Steven Blum as Shocker, he sounded tough and gruff but didn't go too far and still fit for how Shocker is just a thug.

I love Jim as an actor but he seems to be trying too hard with Shocker at times plus he sounds too evil, yes he is evil but Jim plays it too much.

And the most contraversal of the performances, Jeff Bennet's. Poeple complain how it's Montana in the costume and not shocker and that the accent doesn't fit while others thnk it brings more to the character but I agree with the first, it doesn't fit Shocker. Performance is okay but the accent and even the voice itself doesn't fit Shocker and it makes me wonder why he's in first place.

Daran Norris and Micheal Beattie stand out for me more the the others, both are good for thug voices but don't come off as generic. However, Daran has some odd devilvery on some lines and Micheal doesn't feel natural at times.

The others are okay, nothing really outstanding about them

Michael Beattie for Shocker. As with Silver Sable, I didn't care for Sepctacular combining Montana with Shocker. I know some people say that Herman Schlutz is a generic thug and Montana in more interesting, but I honestly don't see how. How? How is Montana any less of a generic thug than Schlutz? Really, the only thing that could possibly make Montana more interesting than Schultz is the fact he has a Southern accent ans Schultz doesn't. Otherwise, I don't see it, nor do I buy it.
said at 2:51 AM on Wed Sep 7 2011

It wasn't really that one was more interesting than the other. It was more about the fact that both Schultz were, more or less, the same type of person, and would have been redundant.
