Alright folks here is a large VC for a really large-sized member of Spider Man's Rogues Gallery... RHINO! Since this is a rather large one I shall keep this review short and I will say that most of these performances here are not bad. However I do think that John DiMaggio, Clancy Brown and Fred Tatasciore give out the best performances here for Rhino, the others for the most part did well but I admit I think that Steve Blum is the weakest one here. Don't get me wrong I of course do agree that he is normally a fine VA but his Rhino voice isn't rough enough and a bit too high in which to be blunt it felt like Blum was really miscast. Overall I was satisfied with most of the performances here but like I said before I did like John DiMaggio, Clancy Brown and Fred Tatasciore the most here.

I definitely like Clancy Brown the best as not only does he sound big and tough, but also kinda makes him sound a little bit more intelligent than most incarnations of the Rhino's do. He sounds like a failed high school drop out who at least is street smart for the most part. He also nails his rash and impulsive attitude really too. Clancy usually isn't one to voice brutish baddies, usually the main villains but he works perfectly in a role like this. I think he's an all round excellent fit for The Rhino.

Fred Tatasciore would have to my second favourite since he's voiced him in so many games, I've lost count. Though I feel he tends to make Rhino sound a bit too stupid most of the time, I think his best turn as Rhino was in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 IOS game where he voice matched Paul Giamatti. He does basically end up sounding like Rocksteady from TMNT but he's a rhino and Russian so in the end it works.

Ben Diskin is easily third, I'm amazed by the range he has. He sounds maybe a bit too quiet but he does sound really deep and almost sounds like he's doing an impression of Lou Ferrigno. This is thinking outside the box casting, I love it.

Don Stark is also fantastic. Who imagined Bob Pinciotti could make for an excellent Rhino. Yes his voice is light but he actually makes Rhino sounds very intelligent and very dangerous, plus the delivery of his lines "Dirty You Up Bad" is pretty great. Great example of out of the box casting.

Ed McNamara is pretty good too, though there's something about his voice that sounds off to me. Funny enough I originally thought as a kid that Rhino had the same voice as Fred Flintstone....I don't know why I made that assumption as neither sounds like each other. Oh well.

Robin Atkin Downes is a out of the box casting choice and it works mostly well, it's still radically different from his Abomination voice which is nice. Nothing too special but still nice.

Steve Blum is a lot like Don Stark, he doesn't sound too deep or dumb, he has a pretty good New Yorker accent, though maybe not as originally sounding as Stark was.

Bob Glouberman reminds me a lot of the late Bob Papenbrook in the role, he pulls off the Ultimate version really well all things considered.

John DiMaggio's take I'm not really fond of, I think he sounds too slow and dumb, but I like how hotheaded he is in the role.

Dee Bradley Baker feels very forced as Rhino. Daran Norris probably would have done it better.

I really don't care for Max Mittelman or Daryl Sabara in the role, ultimately they used pitch shifting to disguise the whole twist that he's a bullied kid....I really disliked this twist and approach on the character. It feels so forced and frankly uninspired.

I'm going to give my vote to Clancy Brown but Fred, Ben, Don and Ed are pretty great Rhinos too.

BONUS: The Rhino huh? How about Richard Newman or Scott McNeil in the role, they've voiced some Rhinos before but none as dumb as this one. I could also see Brad Garrett, Daran Norris or Jim Cummings fitting really well too. I also think there was a missed opportunity to not have either Alan Reed or Henry Corden as The Rhino.

Ed sounds okay for given the time that the show came out. I actually think he sounds kind of like Ed Asner at times, but for a 60s performance it is passable, which is more I can say for many of the performances at that time. 5.5/10

Don sounds pretty good and that rasp and accent he has does make it sound pretty creepy and it is good to hear Rhino not sound so big and stupid in his delivery, which is a nice change of pace. 7/10

Dee is really just using his big thug voice for this character, and it's okay, the only problem is that it is a bit too high I feel for the character. Plus Dee didnt really have all that much to go off of. 6/10

John was a great casting choice for the character since playing characters that are big and a bit dumb is his speciality. He has a great delivery, the accent he adds is nice, plus he does get a couple funny lines. 8.5/10

Bob is good for the rendition he is doing, but he doesn’t really get all that much material to work with. Not much to say really, it’s just a decent performance that I wish he had more to work with. 6/10

Steve is way too high in my opinion. I feel he doesn't really have any weight to the voice and his delivery is kind of stiff. It’s not an awful voice, there’s just really anything that great about it. 4.5/10

Clancy like John was a very natural choice, and a I feel the same way with Clancy as I do with John, so I can’t really say all that much more about this performance other than he did at least get more material to work with, plus he did have some great lines. 8.5/10

Fred is also a good choice for the Rhino, and he does get one funny line, my only problem with this voice is that all I can really hear is the Hulk voice just not as mad. It’s not bad, I just think it’s a little distracting hearing that voice for Rhino, which is odd because you’d think that would make the voice really fitting, but I think it makes the Rhino sound too dumb compared to John or Clancy’s performances. 6.5/10

Max and Daryl both kind of fall into the same category to me. While both are pitched down, I do think both give a passable performance, and they do at least get one or two decent lines, but there really isn’t all that much to make these performances all that memorable. Not bad but not great either. 5.5/10

Ben does a shockingly good job here. I couldn’t believe he could even do that voice until I listened to that (plus it was cool when he showed me how he did it after my interview with him.) I like that it isn’t too deep, but he adds just the right amount of gravel to the voice to still make it feel like it has a lot of weight to it. A great change of pace for Ben and a great show of his range. 8/10

Robin I feel was kind of a miscast. It’s not horrible, but I feel Robin’s voice here belongs in another game, since there's nothing really that makes it stand out, and the voice doesn't really sound like there's any weight to it, so it doesn’t really even make the rhino sound like he is a big guy, just sounds like a guy trying to sound like a big guy. 5/10

1. DiMaggio
2. Brown
3. Diskin
4. Stark
5. Tatasciore
6. Baker
7. Glouberman
8. McNamara
9. Mittleman and Sabara
10. Downes
11. Blum

So, looks like we have one of Spidey's bigger, if dumber characters: The Rhino! My thoughts on the many performances provided for the big guy?

1. Clancy Brown. Without a doubt, I feel that he's the best of the bunch. He sounds perfectly huge, powerful, yet also kinda simple. He was also pretty funny though, and could be intimidating when needed like when he was interrogating J. Jonah Jameson. And like others have said, the role is a nice change of pace for Clancy and I feel that he did the role justice. I'd give it a 9/10.

2. John Dimaggio. I thought he also did a very good take on the Rhino, though not quite as good as Clancy's. He still did a great job at making Rhino sound like the brutish, tough, meatheaded punk he is, and I definitely think he'd be great doing the role again! 8.5/10

3. Don Stark: While he doesn't sound quite as dumb or meatheaded as the other guys do, I feel that he made up for it with how great he delivered his lines. He sounds more like a criminal with an average intelligence, but I think it still is a good performance since his Rhino isn't a genius or anything, and he still conveys power which is what the Rhino should do. 8/10.

4. Fred Tatasciore. As you'd expect, Fred delivers well with the huge dumb brute stereotype in this game. It's a bit weak in some areas and could use some work, but it's overall a good voice for the Rhino. 8/10.

5. Benjamin Diskin: A bit high for the role, but Ben's performance is still pretty good here. He wasn't my first pick for the Rhino and I was a bit doubtful when I saw him listed, but he did much better than I expected. 7/10, a good performance.

6. Max Mittleman/Daryl Sabara. Both sound more or less the same, so I put them in the same spot. They do the job well for Rhino I feel as a bullied guy who snaps, but the effects are noticeable and thus hold the performance back in my eyes. It's a bit better than average, I'd say it gets a 6.5/10.

7. Robin Atkin Downes: Not one of the better ones sadly, and it's a shame since Robin's a pretty good voice actor. However, his delivery does come off as forced, but it still sounds like it has definite potential. I feel Robin could probably do it better in the future, but as it is, the performance gets a 5/10. It's not horrible, but it's nothing special in the slightest.

8. Bob Glouberman: It's a decent take on Rhino but the delivery was kinda weird. I mean, he does have the energy that I feel contributes to a good Rhino performance, and I don't mind the voice effects since this Rhino is meant to be a mech suit. It gets a nice 6/10 for sounding decent enough, but with odd delivery. I actually like it more than most.

9. Steve Blum. Now I don't hate this performance at all in the slightest and find it pretty good. The problem is, it doesn't suit Rhino at all! I find it better for the Shocker or a similar villain. Overall, I give it a 5/10 as it's still a good performance, but beyond miscast.

10. Dee Bradley Baker: Eesh, an even worst case of being a miscast voice, and it doesn't even sound good in the slightest. The delivery comes off as beyond forced, and Rhino's voice is much too high. It's a shame I'm giving this score to Dee Bradley Baker of all voice actors, but I feel like a 4/10 is the only score I can give it.

11. Ed McNamara: I'm usually a bit lenient with voice overs from the fifties, sixties and the like due to different standards for voice acting, but this is just a bad performance overall. The delivery is weird, and there's just no life to the character whatsoever. It gets a 3/10, just a bad performance even by that era's standards.

1. Clancy Brown- Perfect! Sounds just like the giant brute that Rhino is!
2. Fredd Tatascore- Good for a more monstrous version.
The rest are all okay. I actually wasn't that impressed with John Dimaggio's interpretation. He sounded to me like he had a stuffy nose. Ed McNarmara lacked power, but I thought it was funny how he made the character sound like just some dumb guy. Robin Atkin Downes was alright, but forced. He hardly spoke though, and, considering his Abomination voice, I think he should be given a chance to come back and try again just to see how he does with more lines. As for Ben Disken, I can't believe that worked!

2.Fred Tatasciore-not as good as i hoped but still very fitting in the role

3.Benjamin Diskin-suprisingly good,he puts on a decent gruff and thungish voice

And now the bad ones

Don Stark-sounds thugish and somewhat menacing, but he simply doesnt sound right as the Rhino

Dee Bradley Baker-sound rather forced

Bob Glouberman-bad audio quality and sounds bland to me

Steven Blum-completly mismached voice

Max Mittelman/Daryl Sabar-Ultimate Spiderman relays to much on artificial voice deepening on many of his villains, and im really getting sick of this cheap effects

Robin Atkin Downes-forced beyond belief

1. Clancy Bown- He was for sure one of many stand outs of Spect. Spiderman. This is a nice change for Clancy, he doesn't play the "dumb thug" type much. Clancy does a good job bringing a certain charm and sense of humor to Rhino on top of having a deep gruff voice (I even hear a bit of a New York accent which is a nice touch).

2. Don Stark- A bit light yeah but his delivery on some lines more than make up for it. He was portrayed kinda just your typical villain but Don does makes him memerable.

3. Fred Tatasciore- I've heard him do better, the clip makes him too dumb. He's got the power that fits for Rhino.

4. John DiMaggio- Sounds like Brad Garret, he's decent as Rhino. He's not amazig, he has some awkward delivery at times but I know he could do better if he did a diferent voice but he still has the deep and gruff for Rhino so he was alright.

5. Benjamin Diskin- Surpringsly good. I thought he'd sound forced but he dpes a naturally deep and gruff voice. He didn't get a lot to work with but I'd like to hear him reprise Rhino.

6. Max Mittelman- His personality is a bit too wrestler like and you can tell that effects were used but he does have a good amount of energy and does sound powerful.

7. Daryl Sabara- Same as Max, barely can tell the difference but he sounds a little more forced. Still, it is a good example of his ange even if his voice was altered.

8. Robin Atkin Downes- It's deep and gruff but it sounds forced and there ins't really anything to remember from it. He's acceptable but nothing worth mentioning.

9. Steven Blum- Too high, he is gruff enough but he lacks any sort of power. he did fit for the personality though.

10. Dee Bradley Baker- They probably should have gone with Daran Norris, Dee's too high and not gruff enough.

11. Bob Glouberman- Kinda boring. Although I do like the idea of a robot version of Rhino I feel his voice should be deeper and have a bit more energy.

12. Ed McNamara- Rhino's face from Ed's clip pefectly fits how I feel listening to it. He feels bored and doesn't have any sot of power to it.

Daryl and Robin are alright, really they seem forced at times and don't have anything to remember.
Clancy has a charm to his, Don has great delivery, and Fred sounds the most powerful (although the clip isn't a great example).

Benjamin actually has a pretty good take on the Rhino.

A lot of people who read my comments always see I respect the original actor but in a previous comment that is not the case here. Ed was clearly boring & talked 2 slow which made me feel that Spiderman should hav got a move in while Rhino was talking.

Rhino is a character that has many different interpretations, it's best to keep that in mind when comparing voices...
1.John Dimaggio. The perfect for the "dumb" version of Rhino. He makes Rhino sounds like he's a buffoon, and it's pretty hilarious.
1.Clancy Brown. A nice version of a smarter Rhino who's actually capable of doing things on his own.
1.Don Stark. A more thuggish version of Rhino. He's doing this for the money and the money alone. Never plans for himself and needs people to command him around.
And no, making everyone here 1. is not a mistake, the reason I did so is because Rhino has many interpretations throughout the comics as is, and each of the actors I named did a good job at each of those.

1. Clancy Brown - Makes the Rhino very entertaining and less stupid than he's usually written off as.
2. Fred Tatasciore - A natural fit for Rhino.
3. John DiMaggio - Another perfect fit, even if it's a deeper version of his Sandman.
4. Max Mittelman - Plays hims very "pro wrestler", and it works.
5. Don Stark - The voice is a bit light, but I love the accent and the delivery of lines like "Dirty you up BAD!"
6. Ben Diskin - He makes a surprisingly good Rhino.
7. Steve Blum - Well acted, but the pitch is off. He sounds almost Mark Hamill-esque at points.
8. Bob Glouberman - Uninspired and forgettable.
9. Dee Bradley Baker - Forced and annoying.
10. Ed McNamara - Not even close.

Ed sounds boring so he is not on my list for this one.

Dee has 2 be my fav as he makes Rhino really tough and I like that though Don is pretty good as there's something about his voice I like.

Clancy I hope comes back in future as he was really good.

Bob is really rough and I like his tone while max did ok though he isn't well known enough.

John shocked me on this one as he did a soft tone for rhino it just wasn't his best role as he could have done better maybe that's why he came back for Friend or Foe. Fred was the same as I've also heard him in better roles.

Steve was just low really.

So Dee 1st, Clancy 2nd, Bob 3rd, Don 4th and Max 5th despite being unknown at this point in time.

Clancy was a great casting choice on the shows part, and he gave a great performance. John was good for a video game adaptation, and I love that little snort. Fred is typecasted in this role, which kinda annoys me, but what annoys me more is that it fit. Steven is too high, Dee's a bit forced, and Mads has too many affects on his voice.

Ed Mcnamara Somehow sounds both bored and hammy at the same time.
Don Stark Sounds like a generic crook to me.
Dee Bradley Baker has used this voice before; doesn't sound too bad for Rhino though.
John Dimaggio sounds a bit too light, but not horrible overall.
Bob Gloubermann sounds pretty good for his particular version of Rhino and the effects help rather than detract from his performance.
Steve Blum's voice doesn't really fit here. I'd probably blame the director here, but his voice is too light and high for Rhino.
Clancy Brown's voice is low, powerful, and a little thick without sounding too dumb and really fits Rhino.
Fred Tatasciore is suitably low, monstrous, and dumb.
Mads Mikkelsen sounds low, powerful, and angry; pretty good.
I ended up going with Clancy Brown for this one.

@Mr.Fennoy93 Um.... what?
said at 3:19 PM on Tue Feb 12 2013
@MilanTheVillain01 I saw the the Credits Clearly, And it's Max Mittleman, Not Mads Mikklesen.

@Mr.Fennoy93 Well, check again. BtVA is hardly ever wrong.

@MilanTheVillain01 Already did. I Sent a Report Error.

@Mr.Fennoy93 Wow, that was a fast reply. What are you, Sonic the Hedgehog?

@MilanTheVillain01 Kinda. :p

I did that Yesterday.

You're thinking of the wrong person cause it's Max not Mads.

Le Chiffre as the rhino, luckily spidey didn't end up tied to any bottomless chairs ;)

@GothamRed He ties Spidey to the chair instead.

Max Mittleman not Mads Mikkelsen from Bond.
said at 4:24 PM on Fri Jul 19 2013
@Ross123 Sorry, I posted this before the correction
said at 9:36 PM on Thu Jan 31 2013
Mads Mikkelsen was... okay. Like with Luke Cage and Iron Fist on Ultimate and some characters on other shows, I don't care for for the deaging of the character.
said at 12:25 PM on Sun Oct 13 2013

Well, now that it's corrected, I mean Max Mittelman.
said at 9:07 PM on Thu Jan 31 2013
Mads Mikkelsen sounds too high and lacks gruffness. Gonna stick with Clancy Brown.
said at 8:52 PM on Thu Jan 31 2013
Mads Mikkelsen was okay. I hate how Rhino was handled in Ultimate Spider-Man. I'm sticking with Clancy Brown.

Wow, Mads Mikkelsen? What a waste of a celebrity guest voice. :/

Read the name again mate.

@Ross123 When the episode first came out, there was a mixup since on broadcast, they did the "squish credits to make room for advertisements" routine. The credits were small and blurry, so Rhino's VA was misread and initially believed to be Mads Mikkelsen. Better-quality credit images since surfaced revealing that it was actually Max Mittleman.
said at 12:58 PM on Sat Aug 10 2013
Oh well that explains why most people mistake Max for James Bond villain star Mads. At least I know why now, thanks.

Don Stark for me. Brown, Tatasciore and DiMaggio were good too, but there's something about Don's that I love.
said at 4:12 AM on Mon Dec 31 2012
@TylerMirage Maybe it's the threatening way he delivers his lines In one episode he pins someone(I forget who and threatens to grind their bones to dust if they don't cooperate or something along the lines.
said at 10:16 PM on Fri Jan 25 2013
@TylerMirage Meh, he sounds too high IMO.
said at 12:43 AM on Sun Nov 4 2012
I think Clancy Brown is the best Rhino. I also think Fred Tatasciore and John Dimaggio are good too.
said at 12:29 AM on Fri Jul 6 2012
Ironically John Dimaggio's voice was the same for Sandman.
said at 10:05 PM on Fri Sep 7 2012

Actually, no they weren't; DiMaggio's Sandman was a bit different. His Sandman was more like Bender, his Rhino sounds similar to Brad Garrett.
said at 1:01 AM on Sat Sep 8 2012
@Anicomicgeek His performance is pretty inconsistent then because sometimes his Rhino will sound like Bender depending on the game
said at 1:02 AM on Sat Sep 8 2012
@Anicomicgeek Here it's sounds like Garrett but still I've heard performances that are lighter.
said at 11:02 PM on Sat Sep 8 2012

No, from what IIRC, it was more or less always consistent and DiMaggio trying to sound like Brad Garrett. But then again, it has been a while, but I'm pretty sure it didn't go into the same voice he sued for Sandman.
said at 11:50 PM on Sat Sep 8 2012
@Anicomicgeek IMO it's the usual voice he used for Sandman, Juggernaut, and Bender and various other dudes but it's deepened if he lightened it it'd be the same.
said at 12:50 AM on Sat Jan 12 2013
@Anicomicgeek It is deepened but it does like his Bender/Sandman/Juggernaut but it's actually his Hamerhead.

I have to go with Clancy Brown, if only because he managed to make the Rhino seem halfway intelligent, in the sense that you can tell he's a high school dropout but has enough smarts to try to get the job done.

Clancy Brown is the best as Rhino IMO, though Don Stark and John DiMaggio are pretty good, too. Bob Glouberman does work as Ultimate Rhino.

Didn't suspect Benjamin Diskin had it in him, but he did a good job as Rhino. Clancy Brown is still better, though.
