Alright folks today for the Spider Man VC section here is another VC for one of his various foes and this time its that New York mobster with an Adamantium Flat-Top head namely HAMMERHEAD! Hammerhead's voice acted debut was in the 90's Spiderman series in which he was voiced by the late Nicky Blair. Nicky's performance was pretty good, he was able to handle the accent well and his performance was fairly suiting to Hammerhead's persona granted the voice is a little light but its not too bad. Its not one of the best performances in the show but Nicky does a decent job with the role nevertheless.

During the 2000s two men whom are known NA animation VAs have voiced Hammerhead in which Dee Bradley Baker is the first whom voiced him in the 2001 Video game "Spider Man 2 Enter Electro". Now Dee is by all means a fine VA but his work here is quite a mixed bag. For starters while he does a decent job with the accent his voice for Hammerhead was a little too high, I mean sure its not really high by itself but I do think its a little too high for someone like Hammerhead here. However in Dee's defense his performance was quite good though, as his delivery for Hammerhead's lines have a good sense of energy. So in other words its not a flat out bad performance overall but it was quite a mixed bag.

And last but certainly not the least is in Spectacular Spider Man (and Spiderman Shattered Dimensions) he is voiced by John DiMaggio whom was quite a perfectly suitable casting choice for the role here. Unlike the other two John's Hammerhead voice was a rather low, gruff and menacing New York accented voice which is quite suitable for the role. And John's performance was greatly suiting for this role as he has a cool collected and yet menacing tone that definitely sounds tough but is not quite "mindless muscle" here. So basically its a great example of John DiMaggio's work and a fine example of the voice work in Spectacular Spider Man (And the Shattered Dimensions game but that is a different story.) Overall I definitely liked John DiMaggio best with Nicky Blair at second and Dee Bradley Baker as a rather mixed bag third.

5. David Boat
4. Bill Boyett
3. Jim Cummings
2. Jon Polito
1. John DiMaggio

Future VA Suggestions:

Ray Liotta is a Shoe In for the Role both on Screen and In animation. Harry Hill as Hammerhead..... Need I Say More?

I also think that a more Slick and Subdued version of John Marino's Dirt Boss voice for Hammerhead.

I also recommend Beau Billingslea, Tom Siezmore, Scottie Ray and Bruce Weitz

Jim's not as recognizable as you'd think, and it's pretty great range, plus great to have him in a new role as it seems he's been limited to Pete, Pooh, and Tigger to my knowledge. Plus Dee was my favorite for his lines but with the right delivery Jim could do the same lines Dee had better than Dee dud in the game which was great as it was, despite issues with the voice.

Not much more to say about Dee other than if he doesn't reprise I hope Jim dies as he sounded even more menacing in other episodes and is honestly my favorite performance in the current Spidey show.

Jon Polito is fun and tied with Jim. My only issue is he's not as menacing as Jim Dee could potentially get abd only plays the mainical part of the character as a crime boss, not his ruthlessness.

John DiMaggio is also great and sounds like a a smooth talker and menacing but he's missing a gangster sequel accent/New York accent the others had above him, while Jim has all 3.

Nicky Blair is menacing with a great gangster type attitude but his issue is the lack of the smooth talking due to being a lackey.

John DiMaggio is easily my favourite of the bunch sounding smooth with that very gangster-like voice of his that actually somewhat fits Hammerhead quite well.

Jon Polito also fits well too. Shame he passed away though while Jim Cummings is a natural fit, could do with more bite in his delivery though.

David Boat sounds rather thuggish, Nicky Blair though he has great delivery doesn't sound all that distinct and Dee Bradley Baker's a miscast sounding too high.

Jim was an easy choice for Hammerhead and he fits naturally, I just wish he had more of that bite in his delivery. Th last line of this clip he has it I just wish he had it more.
I would say he is a close second to John.

Nicky's got a great delivery, but I feel something about it doesn't stand out all that much. Again, the delivery's great, but the voice doesn't really feel all that distinct.

Dee isn't terrible, I just feel this was a bit of a miscast. I think the voice is a bit too high, which could've worked, but Dee's delivery sounds very flat at several points. I feel they should've gone with someone else in the game like Daran Norris.

DiMaggio's smooth voice along with the incredibly well done gangster type accent work together perfectly I feel. He sounds threatening but at the same time you want to hear every word he says to you. It's entertaining and just plain cool to listen to all at the same time.

Jon Polito was an incredibly natural choice I feel for Hammerhead, and he doesn't disappoint. His naturally raspy/gruff voice plus his knack for playing mobster like characters all work in tandem very well with the character. Once in a while I think his delivery could sound a teeny bit off, but overall a good performance from an underrated actor. RIP

David just sounds kind of generic. Nothing about it really stands out all that much, it just sounds like this could be any generic thug character. Which is sad since I feel if David was given the right direction he could've done a good job with this character. But I'd say this is the most forgettable, at least with Dee he seems to be a bit more distinct with the voice than just "gruff guy #4."

1. John DiMaggio
2. Jon Polito
3. Nicky Blair
4. Dee Baker
5. David Boat

I'd say for a future VA, Keith Szarabajka or Daran Norris

@skeletonking1234 I definitely agree that Daran Norris would have been a better choice for Hammerhead. Both PS1 Spiderman games did rely too much on Dee & Daran respectively. Along with the good performances they had in the game they had fair share of miscast roles in both games.

John DiMaggio is one of the few performances of Spectacular Spider-Man that I like. Most of the performances there were just generic IMO, but DiMaggio is pretty unique actually. He sounds like a crime boss and he has a neat accent.

The UVA who played Hammerhead in the 1981 solo Spider-Man cartoon (I'm guessing it's Bill Boyett) does a good job as well. It's one of the better performances from that show.

Jon Polito is pretty awesome as well. His voice fits the character quite well, and he brings a whole lot of energy to the role. It really saddens me that he passed away, 'cause I would have loved to hear him in the role again.

Nicky Blair works quite well, too. His accent is great and he does sound commanding as well.

Dee Bradley Baker is cool, too. The delivery is a little wonky at times, but it does the job.

Dave Boat sounds a little bit too thuggish for my taste.

I think I'll switch Jon and the 1981 UVA around.

Also switching the 1981 UVA with Nicky Blair. Nicky has grown on me lately. So yeah, now Jon Polito is my second favorite, while Nicky is third.

Jim Cummings sounds good, but I don't feel he's as good as the others. So yeah, I still think John, Jon and Nicky play this character best.

John DiMaggio brings the most power and authority to the role of Hammerhead, he sounds large and in charge (well he's not the big man but you know what I mean). It's one of DiMaggio's more unique voices, I haven't heard him re-use this voice since which is a shame since it's pretty good.

David Boat is also rather fitting despite being more thuggish.

Dee Bradley Baker sounds a bit too light but his performance is really good, he does sell the Italian mafia gangster angle nicely.

Nicky Blair doesn't have any authority at all in his take, definitely the weakest voice here.

John's getting my vote for sure.

BONUS: Frank Stallone as Hammerhead anyone? I could also see Scott McNeil, Paul Dobson, Richard Epcar or J David Brimmer fitting the role well.

1. John DiMaggio: John just sounds like how the character looks. It sounds like a high class gangster but maybe not THE guy in charge. The accent, the voice, the delivery just everything fits perfectly.

2. Dave Boat: Maybe not amazing (no pun intended) but pretty fitting for the character. The gruffness works and sounds like a gangster. I can't tell If he has an accent or if it is light. Not that memorable.

3. Dee Bradley Baker: I was unsure for Dee for a while. It's too high and sometimes slips into a different voice but the delivery is done well and when the voice is on the mark it works.

4. Nicky Blair: I found him to be generic, I get no sense of class and doesn't sound too menacing.

I'll put John as the new second, he has a good voice for Hammerhead but doesn't have the same delivery that DiMaggio had. Plus sometimes there is a gargle in his voice that's distracting.

I like John DiMaggio and DBB for different reasons.

With John, I think the deep voice is unique and a great example of DiMaggio's range. And it does work for Hammerhead's "in charge" status very well.

Dee's was interesting too. A bit too high-pitched, but it still works. Gives a sense of a no-nonsense mob boss. The accent(?) was a bit of a nice touch too.

I'll go with John DiMaggio, but I give Dee credit for a good alternative take too.
