Voice Compare » Spider-Man » Doctor Octopus
Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Doctor Octopus with sound clips and images.
Doctor Octopus is one of Spider-Man's greatest enemies he is also known as Doc Ock. Before the accident that merged him with the robotic tentacles, he was a respected scientist known as Otto Octavius. He is a brilliant scientist, engineer and inventor. His genius intellect makes him an excellent strategist and leader. From his accident he has the mental ability to control his four tentacles which can multitask and are also very powerful weapons.
For the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon Doc Ock was first voiced by Vernon Chapman for the episode "The Power of Dr. Octopus" and for the episode "The Terrible Triumph of Dr. Octopus" he was voiced by Tom Harvey.

EDITOR'S OPINION
Most of these voices were great! The standouts however IMO are Peter MacNicol, Alfred Molina and Efrem Zimbalist Jr.Jackson_H

Tom Kenny and Peter MaCnicol are both stunning! It was a surprisingly tough decision, but I have to go with Peter MaCnicol. Tom Kenny is brilliant as well and menacing, but Peter is just about as creepy while having a tiny bit more personality.
Tom is right behind him biting at his heels, but Peter is the definitive Doctor Octopus for the time being.

Efrem Zimberalist Jr., Alfred Monila, Tom Kenny, Vernon Champman, Tom Harvey, Stan Jones, Rodher Bumpass, Cam Clarke, and Dave B Mitchell are my favorites I enjoyed Peter Macniol's cry of ARACHNID and it's not a bad performance but isn't my favorite voice for Doc Ock.

If Charlie did something closer to his Cobra Commander, it might work.

Gee, I would've LOVED to hear Charlie Adler's but it appears someone turned the music too loud.

@Mickwhitefire28 That's the game, apparently. Save for a few select cut scenes, most of the dialogue is swamped with music and sound effects. :(

I'm not a fan of Charlie's take. He doesn't make Ock sound very smart. I do think he could do better if he changed his voice a little bit and got to voice him in something with better voice direction.

Efrem Zimbalist Jr. for me. For some reason, I couldn't stand MacNicol as Ock.

@DaltonioSpidey94 I know right the voice was so high pitched and annoying. I prefer Tom Kenny. He sounds like a nerd more than a mad scientist.

@TheVengeanceKnight I think he meant for that statement to be directed at MacNicol and ended up getting the sentence order mixed up.
Replysaid at 7:22 PM on Tue Jan 15 2013
@TheVengeanceKnight The sentence should have said Macniol sounds more like a nerd more than a mad scientist. I prefer Tom Kenny who sounds like Macniol but darker.

@pete Doc Ock is a scientist first, psychotic second. I don't see how sounding like a nerd doesn't fit.
Replysaid at 2:58 PM on Wed Jan 16 2013
@TheVengeanceKnight He doesn't like an adult sounds like he should be in high school getting wedgies. Unless he's younger than most incarnations I'll let that slide. To Kenny sounds like an older darker version of Macniol.
Replysaid at 5:44 PM on Wed Jan 16 2013
@pete He was Norman Osborn's bitch before becoming Doc Ock; does that count? :-P
Replysaid at 8:57 PM on Wed Jan 16 2013
@TheVengeanceKnight It does work for his depiction but hearing that voice come put the comics wouldn't work for the classsic comics (60's to 80) I usually picture Efrem for that period or one of the 60's shows VA's or his 80's show Va and for the 90's and early 2000's I picture Efrem as well but for a the modern Doc Ock I'd say Macniol or Kenny would fit perfectly.

@pete What he said; I always hear MacNicol when I I read comics with Doc Ock.
Replysaid at 9:43 PM on Fri Jan 18 2013
@TheVengeanceKnight I enjoyed his cry of ARACHNID but like I said the voice depends on the era and current Doc Ock acts a lot like Macniol' or Kenny's. I do like him as Mad Hatter and hear him in the role whenever he's in a Batman comic.
Replysaid at 9:48 PM on Fri Jan 18 2013
@Anicomicgeek As I aid above the voice depends on the era for me and it'e easier to hear it in modern comics then it was in classic ones since Spectacular's had some classic stories bt he was more like Ultimate Ock overall. I did picture him in the 559-600 where Aunt May marries JJ's father since he acted a lot like that version. Afterwords as well like in "Thee Origin Of Species". I get the feeling they may be making him more like Macniol's version which I don't mind really I just find it weird compared to the others.

And clearly, Weisman--and from the results, most people--hear MacNicol for classic Ock.

I'm gonna restate my opinion. My favorite is Peter MacNicol. Tom Kenny, Rodger Bumpass, Joe Alaskay, and Alfred Molina were good too. I'm not really sure why Efrem Zimbalist Jr has a German accent. I like Cam Clarke but I hate his Doc Ock. Dave B. Mitchell sounds pretty generic. Out of the older voices I think Vernon Chapman is the best because he made him sound smarter than the others.

@coolgeek176 Either because of his German background, to make him sound more like a mad scientist, or both.

@Anicomicgeek I meant just that he's of German descent as a whole and either Efrem or the voice director wanted that voice, that or to make him sound like a mad scientist as most "mad scientist" villains would have some sort of accent usually German or Russian.

A lot of my favorite VAs (Cam Clarke, Michael Bell, Joe Alaskey) are on here, but MacNicol beats them all. He just IS Doc Ock, and he doesn't need a silly, inexplicable German accent (sorry, Efrem, I love you anyway) to prove it.
Replysaid at 1:11 AM on Wed Jul 6 2011
Zimbalist is how he should sound. Otto Octavius is Austrian/German so it's only fair to give him a German accent.

@D.A.V.E. Read that again dude. I didn't say he was born in Germany just that he is German.
Replysaid at 12:45 PM on Sat Sep 17 2011
@pete Except he's not. He may have German ancestry, but he's parents were American and he was born and raised in New York. So it makes no sense to give him an accent.
Replysaid at 7:34 PM on Wed Sep 21 2011
@D.A.V.E.We don't know if his parents were American their whole lives and all of his family's history so you just assumed they were. His father(or mother or both) might not have been born in America and born and raised in Germany and then immigrated to the states. His father could have had an accent and he inherited it from them. Efrem Zimbalist Jr. is the most realistic Doc Ock for me and is the only I can hear when I read the comics. The voices that played him in the 60's were good for their time though but no one on this VC can top Zimbalist.
Replysaid at 3:45 PM on Mon Sep 3 2012

In the comics, based on his background, I think it might be say to say his parents didn't hail from Germany. Realistically, yeah, Ock is an American, so he wouldn't have a German accent.

Since Doc Ock from the 2000 Activision Spider-Man video game wasn't on here I would have voted Alfred Monalia, but then I heard Efrem Zimbalist's performance and I really like the accent he has. He pulls it off without sounding silly, so my vote goes for him.

Despite going with Alfred Molina, I gotta side with GregXB on this one. In the comics, Doc Ock is on one's lackey and doesn't kowtow to anyone, whereas--outside of one or two cases--TAS Doc Ock was nothing BUT a lackey. If anything, Zimbalist's Ock in TAS was the Octowuss.
