Spawn Spawn

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Cogliostro with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Spawn

Cogliostro is one of the protagonists in the Spawn series who made his comic book debut in Spawn #9. In the beginning of the story Cogliostro appeared to be a homeless elderly old man however he seems to know a lot more about the situation that Spawn is in than Spawn himself and he becomes Spawn's first powerful ally. However the real reason why he is so knowledgeable about Spawn's situation is because he too was once one of Malebolgia's soldiers long ago but Cogliostro has forsaken Malebolgia long ago and now his goal is to make sure that Spawn does not become evil. Though not only is Cogliostro a sagacious old man but he is also an immortal one  who is quite powerful and has a healing factor as well.

Today on the Spawn VC section we take a look at Spawn's mentor figure... COGLIOSTRO! Let us begin...

Richard Dysart- Richard's voice and performance for the role does suit a sagacious old man rather well. Richard's performance as Cogliostro does have a certain sense of eloquence to it especially in Cogliostro's various narration scenes in the series. But still Richard's work on the role is another fine example of the voice work in the animated series.

Phillip Sheperd- Phillips attempt at a sagacious elderly man voice was pretty good I suppose as its not as natural sounding as Richard's but it is decent under its own merits. Though even though all the characters in this game had rather limited dialogue Phillip did actually do a pretty good job in playing Cogliostro as the wise old man that he is so in other words its a good example of the voice work in the game.

Overall Phillip was okay but I am clearly going to go with Richard Dysart here.

As intrusive as Cogliostro's narration could get, Dysart's performance was nevertheless excellent; it sounded wise and old, but not frail, and with a bit of steely harshness. He was unafraid to call Spawn out for his foolishness, and Dysart's voice had a strength to it that made these moments more effective.

Phillip... not so much.
