Vector the Crocodile

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Vector the Crocodile with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Sonic the Hedgehog

Vector is the head honcho at the Chaotix Detective Agency. He's mainly in it for the money, but cares for his teammates, Espio the Chameleon and Charmy Bee, regardless.

It is commonly believed that Bill Corkery voiced Vector in Sonic Heroes. This is not true; Bill Corkery was instead the voice of Espio.

Whatever the case, Vector was played by Marc Biagi in Heroes. For Sonic X and Shadow the Hedgehog, his voice actor was Jimmy Zoppi (who was credited as Carter Cathcart in the latter). Vector was voiced by Dan Green in the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games series because Jimmy Zoppi left 4Kids. As of Sonic Free Riders, he's voiced by Keith Silverstein.

Jimmy Zoppi's was rather goofy and sometimes a bit annoying, even though it did give us the computer room meme. Dan Green was a much more fitting replacement (even if he sounded like Knuckles at times), and Keith Silverstein has a great voice for Vector, sounding comedic, but easier to take seriously. Even so, I've got to go with Marc Biagi, for making Vector sound deep, serious and, well, like a boss. He even succeeded at playing Vector's lighter moments.

Favorites are Marc Biagi and Keith Silverstein.

Future VA Opinion
I think Patrick Seitz can pull off a good Vector.

I also think J David Brimmer (AKA Michael Alston Baley) can make a great vector since he has the same Japanese seiyuu as Nosferatu Zodd in the Berserk Golden Arc Age movies, who's also voiced in the English version by Brimmer.

My opinion of the voice actors of Vector below:

4. Dan Green - Maybe it's just the limited material but I feel Dan's trying too hard to be like Vector and it doesn't come off as natural to me. Not much else to say really.

3. James Carter Cathcart - It's a unique voice but it's a bit too loud and obnoxious for a character who's meant to be a tough boss. The acting was decent though but it needed more fine tuning.

2. Keith Silverstein - This is much like James but a bit more improved. Keith gets the gruff tone of the character just right and makes it less loud. The acting was also better and overall it's more or less a better version of James.

1. Marc Biagi - Definitely the most solid voice for Vector. Marc makes him sound like a true boss and he doesn't have any of the unnecessary loudness that started with James' performance. The acting was also perfect and overall he gave Vector the serious, tough, mob boss-like voice he should have.

I've never been the biggest fan of Biagi. It's not the worst thing ever, but I don't know, the voice never really clicked with me. I think it sounds like he's trying to sound deep but it just kind of comes off as awkward.

Cathcart entertains me so much. I think it's a teeny bit high, but his energy and delivery make it so fun to listen to I feel.

Green is really surprising here, I don't normally see him stretch his range that much so seeing him in this and Rivals 2 was a nice surprise. I think he finds a good balance here between not too high and getting a decent rasp in.

Keith I think finds that perfect balance between Dan and James. It almost sounds like the two voices fused while Keith added his own little touches to make it his own.

1. Keith Silverstein
2. Dan Green
3. James Cathcart
4. Marc Biagi

If I could think of a future VA I'd say John DiMaggio or if they got a bigger name (though that'll probably never happen,) I'd say Bobcat Goldthwait

1. Competent and a bit of a greedy joker, he pretty much nails Vector.

2. Silverstein - Comes close to Biagi and the acting is good, but he sounds a bit toady, yeah.

3. Green - It's okay. Dan's range is good, but the material holds him back.

4. Cathcart - Beautiful. The voice of an angel.

1. Marc Biagi:

I find his Vector to have the most serious, competent, and boss like portrayal, and it seems very fitting for the character.

2. Keith Silverstein:

He sounds a bit froggy and like a mix between Marc Biagi and JCC's performance, and I think he's pretty good, but he has moments where he's a bit too goofy at times.

3. Dan Green:

He was fairly good, but a bit too gruff and generic at times, though I will say it was nice to see Dan get to explore his range a bit in the role.

4. James Carter Cathcart:

JCC's unfortunately too goofy and nasally to take seriously as Vector. At least his performance gave us the infamous "Computer room" meme, though, I suppose it's worth something in the end.

Since you asked, I think only Samurai, Kurt, and Weevil were decent.

This guy is practically like a fallen angel or something. Everything about him in Sonic Heroes was perfect. His role in the story, his personality, and of course, the way Marc Biagi portrayed him. Watching Team Chatotix's opening cutscene for the first time and hearing Vector say that famous line, "You know our policy, we never turn down work that pays!" Listening to the Chaotix theme song in the background, I thought Vector would stay that perfect forever. Alas, it is not so, and SEGA seeks to make him nothing more prominent than comic relief.

Marc Biagi: Sounded great. Is still probably my favorite Vector. As an introduction to the character it serves as one that lets us know he's still a serious business man and a leader despite his playful demeanor.

2. Keith Silverstein. He's doing a good job with his voice and I'm seeing improvement in him as the newest Olympic games has come along. I don't have too much faith in his ability to not make him sound too goofy just yet but that's probably me being on edge about the decision to keep the inflections of his Shadow the Hedgehog voice actor.

3. Dan Green. Actually sounded pretty good. Probably would have made for a perfect fit had he been able to do more honestly.

4. James Carter Cathcart. Unless you thought that ever since his very first voice appearance Vector was supposed to sound stupid, drunk, and like he had a frog in his throat then I can see you choosing the terrible Vector voice from Shadow the Hedgehog as your favorite. Since he's my third favorite character in the series though, the stigma he got after Shadow's game isn't something I wanted to see happen and I can't forgive this voice for it. Not to mention, it just sounds grating.

1-:Marc Biagi: The perfect fit for the character, it sounds very tough and the accent is a nice touch.
2-:Keith Silverstein: Another good fit. It's a little high pitched, but unlike James' take, it works well.
3-: Dan Green: Sounds like a bit of a cross between Marc and Keith. I wish he had been casted for Vector instead of Knuckles, he really seems to suit the character, but he barely got any material.
4-: James Carter Cathcart: James was just plain miscast. He does sound unfitting, but he didn't do too bad in Sonic X, and I'll always remember him for all his meme-worthy lines. Think of it as a so bad its good performance.

Marc Biagi: Overrated. Ok, Let me say this, I don't hate this voice actor to the point where I would insult him by saying "PAINFULLY OVERRATED!!!" or "THIS IS THE WORST!!!" this was a cool start, but I just can't get adjusted to this guy.

Carter Cathcart: painfully underrated. He gives vector a funny, likeable personality. Ok, it can be too loud at times, but it's funny.

Dan Green: UGH!! I SWEAR IT'S WORSE THAN MARC BIAGI!!! This is WAYY too menacing for me and really unfitting. This guy is the worst voice of vector.

Keith Silverstein: Combines Cathcart's voice with Biagi's tone and makes it fit perfectly.

So It's no doubt that Keith Silverstein is the best.

@austinslashlavaboy it's not so much that Marc is overrated, it's just that his was the first, and yet the least ridiculous. If you hear James in X he's going for a take closer to Marc's. during Shadow the Hedgehog, I'm guessing they didnt have reference for what he did in X, so he did the famous ridiculous voice that's now the staple of how he sounds for the successors of the role.

@HienFan In case you didn't notice, 9 other people picked Dan as their favourite Vector voice.

I'm quite surprised that we share the same opinion yet again. I think it's more the fact that lots of people prefer Keith & Marc as their favourites that it's kinda unlikely for 2 people or maybe more to have the same opinion on some1 not as popular.

Ooh, this one's a hard one... Well, I was imprinted with Marc Biagi's voice, so Jimmy Zoppi REALLY threw me off at first, though I got used to it. Unfortunately, looking back at around Zoppi's first performance in Sonic X, he sounded too much like his current Meowth voice (which I'm definitely not in favor of). Dan Green definitely sounded great; too bad he didn't get too big of a role.

@Mephilesthelight358 No. Voice actors do not suck. If you want to complain about the voices of these characters and share your displeasure with them, fine, but if you're going to call voice acting in general awful just because you don't like it, then you are sorely wrong and nobody is ever going to take you seriously, because all you're doing is being a troll.

Marc, as small as his role was, emoted well and really fit Vector's personality. I miss him and the rest of the Sonic Heroes cast a lot. (Well, maybe not Big and Cream)

Jimmy is too cartoonishly annoying and he always talked like he had something in his throat. He had his funny moments, though.

Dan doesn't count because Olympic Games were sound effects, not acting.

Marc sounds very different from the other voice actors but its not necessarily a bad thing. He really gives out a mix between gruff and silliness. Having a really deep voice does help.

Jimmy just sounds silly. The Computer Room meme was funny but that doesn't change the fact that he's my least favorite voiceover of Vector.

Dan sounds better than Jimmy but I will have to say that he was meh. He's far from bad but I wouldn't call him my favorite either.

1. Marc Biagi - His gruff and greedy voice matched perfectly with the "rough and tumble" Vector in Sonic Heroes.
2. Keith Silverstein - I think he's a great new Vector, and, to me, his Vector voice sounds like a combination of Marc Biagi's and Dan Green's, sort of like a deeper, gruffer version of Dan's.
3. Dan Green - His Vector voice seems to me a less-goofy version of Jimmy Zoppi's.
4. Jimmy Zoppi - I didn't dislike his Vector voice, I just didn't like it as much as the other three.
said at 9:08 PM on Fri Apr 15 2011
On another note, I don't think it was Jimmy Zoppi that did Vector's voice in Shadow the Hedgehog.

Vector's voice in Sonic X seemed to change quite a bit. In episode 39, when the Chaotix were introduced for the first time, Vector's voice was more high pitched and silly sounding. But when Shadow the Hedgehog was releassed, Vector's voice was very different. It seemed a bit lower pitched compared to before. This same voice was also used during the 3rd season in Sonic X.

The point is, Jimmy Zoppi was apparently credited for doing Vector's voice in Ep. 39 in Sonic X, but someone else was credited for doing the voice in Shadow and possibly the remaining of Sonic X, under the name Carter Cathcart. Now, some have said that it was Jimmy Zoppi all along and simply was credited under a different name later on. But how do we know that for sure? The voice in Ep. 39 is rather different than the later episodes of Sonic X and of course the Shadow game.

So I find it hard to believe that Jimmy was doing those 2 voices the whole time, when they're rather different. Unless if someone can prove me wrong with good information, then I'll assume that Jimmy only did Vector's voice for one episode in Sonic X and then was replaced later.

Hopefully this confusing can be cleared up.

@BlueSkySlash Jimmy Zoppi's real name is James Carter Cathcart. He voiced Vector the whole time, but he changed things up a little and went under a different name for Shadow.

Alright. I suppose that clears things up on that. Thanks.

In either case, Jimmy's voice for Vector, for both cases, was not very good in my own opinion. I know Vector is supposed to be a comic relief type of character, but Jimmy's voice was more of a total joke and nothing more. But that's just me.

@NCZ Actually, Carter Cathcart's real name is Jimmy Zoppi. Carter Cathcart is his credit name.

@austinslashlavaboy He has said himself that James Carter Cathcart is his real name, and Jimmy Zoppi was an old pseudonym he used for voice work. I think he actually told us personally in an email, too.

@Music Meister Eh, the name didn't matter anyways. I do enjoy Cathcart's voice for vector, but keith silverstein is still the best. I'm not used to Biagi, but don't get me started on Dan Green.

@NCZ Really? Try to find the link to his email. I really want to see for myself.

@austinslashlavaboy We probably won't give out any VA's personal contact info ourselves. You'll have to take our word for it. But believe me--James Carter Cathcart is the real name. Look it up yourself on Google and you'll find stuff like his facebook fanpage and his Linkedin profile that confirm this is the case. But if you want me to do it for you...

@NCZ I didn't find it, but your might be right. Wiki might not be reliable, but it did say that James Carter Cathcart was credited as Jimmy Zoppi. Ok it doesn't matter anymore. His name can be confusing, but to me, he's better than biagi (Once again, I don't hate Biagi. I'm Just not used to him.)

 3 Shout Outs!
1. Keith Silverstein

I like this voice. Keith seems to combine all the previous voices into one voice that sounds perfect for Vector. Vector can be tough and short tempered, but he's also a little goofy with his likeness for money and other things. Keith seems to nail both of these traits so well. He might be the best Vector voice we could get, so I'm giving him a thumbs-up.

2. Marc Biagi

He seems to provide the only vector voice that sounds more natural. Whether that's a good thing or not is up to whoever's listening. He brings out Vector's toughness and comedy all in one sitting. Overall, Marc was very good at playing Vector. It's a shame that he only did the voice in one game though.

3. Dan Green

Dan was pretty good. He only did a few lines in those Olympic games though, so it is a bit hard to judge him. He sometimes sounds a bit like Knuckles though, so I may count that against him for that. But he does the job well enough that it's good noneoftheless.

4. Jimmy Zoppi/Carter Cathcart

The worst voice Vector had unfortunately. It was very annoying, dorky, and out of character at times for Vector. It honestly sounds like a cross between Barney Gumble and Pee Wee Herman it seems. Hell, he sounds a bit like Fozzie from the Muppets in a few areas. The point that I'm saying here is that this voice was way too cartoonish and ridiculous for its own good. When Vector says a serious line now and then, its hard to take him seriously when listening to this stupid voice. And of course, we can't forget the "Find the Computer Room" quote that spawned from this voice...

Overall, I didn't like this. It was just too stupid and out of place for a likable character like Vector.

Keith takes the good from all of them somehow and combines them to make the best vector. Keith is the ONLY one from the new cats that I would actually rather have than any other vector voice. Not to say they were bad, but Keith is clearly the best.

Biagi: I'm acting.

Green: Dan, I love ya, man. But you just didn't get the role enough.

Zoppi: This is more the Vector I'm used to. Impatient, gator-esque voice, everything.

Silverstein: He wins. He manages to combine each role of Vector into his own perfect medium. Not too annoying to listen to and yet humorous in character.

I've never really had a problem with any of Vector's V/As

Marc made Vector goofy but also smart, determained and brave and how he should sound it's a shame he didn't have more time to voice Vector he could have been more better if he stayed I think it could have been perfect tthe only problem with him is that he sounded a bit too gruff and that could have changed

Next...."Find The Computer Room" XD

Jimmy voiced Vector in 2005 (Shadow The Hedgehog) and only had a few performances in Sonic X he may not have been perfect but he made Vector the comedian who's plans always fail and go crook XD it was funny watching him and he did some funny perfomrances and gave us that amous quote in SHTH XD The problem with him was he sounded too high ptiched and that could have improved If you see Sonic X Season 3 You could see he was less high ptiched and more calm which was just perfect and it's a shame they fired him soo early when he could have given more perfomrances like that So I say his best perofmrance was in Sonic X (Season 3)

Dan Green to the resuce!!!! He voiced Vector in the Mario And Sonic series and I gotta say he was actually good sounded calm and a bit bold but not much which was good plus he put that Knuckles voice away and transformed it into something different I think Dan Green was awesome as both Vector and Knuckles (Also Mephiles, Prof Pickle and the Ice Cream Man XD)

The problem with Dan was at sometimes His vector voice sounded similar to Knuckles and then at other parts it would be different I think if he had more time voicing Vector he could have cracked it if he was given more chances but I was glad to have him part as that Sonic cast for the last 7 years :)

Lastly Keith Silverstein...

I actually have no problem with Keith I think he's doing a very impressive job and He's so far the only person I like for the new cast Excellent work in Sonic Free Riders but a shame it's manly trash talk and not really serious and some good lines in The DS Version of Colours I think he has the voice of all the other V/As combined but better ptiched and calm I'm looking forward to what he brings in future games but I hope he gets more time to voice him as it was unlucky for the others

At first, I didnt like Kieth's voice as Vector but it actually grew to be my favorite! He's like a mix of Dan and Jimmi! He has Jimmi energy and humor, but deep like Dan Greens! Marc was ok, but he wasnt anything special, he wasnt very funny and didnt have that spark, it was just deep and had a new-york accent to it, which kinda through me off since we know crocodiles arent native to new york (so far as I know) so giving a croc a ney york voice sounded weird to me for some reason

Keith Silverstein added. He's my second favourite, for the reasons Michael stated (blending comedy with a gruff, fitting voice).
