Princess Elise

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Princess Elise with sound clips and images.
Franchise: Sonic the Hedgehog

Elise is the princess of Soleanna, making her only appearance in Sonic 2006. Both of her parents died, leaving her the kingdom's ruler. Elise cannot afford to cry, because doing so would release the demon Iblis. Throughout the game she develops an intimate friendship with Sonic, but she is eventually forced to leave him in order to destroy Solaris.

Elise is voiced by Lacey Chabert in the final version of '06. Her casting was clearly a late decision, as in a preliminary version of the opening FMV she is instead voiced by Veronica Taylor.

Lacey sounded more natural. Veronica was pretty good too, though a little too mature-sounding.

Lacey wins easily. It's to bad that the character she's voicing is useless, pointless, dumb and that her talents were wasted. Oh well. At least I know a way better Princess Elise who's superior in every way shape and form.

Princess Elise is my least favorite Sonic character ever!!! But if I have to choose, I say Lacey Chabert, but that's not really, really, really saying something.

Like many have said, I think Veronica would have been a lot better if Elise was a queen or something higher than a princess.

No offense to Ms. Taylor or anything, but I prefer Lacey in this role. Veronica kinda sounds a bit too old in this clip.

Veronica's decent, but sounds a little older than I think the character would be, I'll give it to Lacey on this one.

@Dr.Who I usually like Veronica's voice work, but this is probably the weakest I've come across as of now. And is it just me, or does she sound a bit like Erica Schroeder in the role?

@Skeeter Mania
I think this still better than what Veronica did in One Piece, myself, but it's certainly not her best.

Eh...kind of?

@A-Log I think Veronica was spared as well. Voice acting for a god-awful game would probably tarnish her reputation.

I'm going to vote this one to Lacey Chabert cause she gives off the young, princess-like personality that Veronica should've worked on more so yeah.

Lacey wins mainly because she sounds more natural, appropriate and provides a bit of elegance to the character. Her voice is also pleasantly smooth which added to the gracefulness aspect of the character.

Veronica's voice would definitely be more suiting of a Queen than Princess.

What happened here? Did Veronica leave because of Sonic 06 being an awful game and she didn't want her name on it?

@BlazeHeatnix People tend not to remember it these days (for obvious reasons) but prior to release, '06 was being hyped up as a huge event and a true next-gen reboot that would put Sonic back on his tracks. My theory is that hiring a "name" actress like Lacey Chabert was done to make the game seem more exciting.
said at 8:37 PM on Wed Jun 3 2015
@NCZ Which makes it even more weird that a big name was working with a lot of non-union voices.

Lacey wins this with the better voice but the weird thing is that they have the same lines in the exact same game. How the heck does that work out???

@Ross123 I love Veronica for her various cartoons but for this case Lacey does sound better, sweeter and a more royal quality

Still it's too bad Veronica got so few Sonic characters, her sweet voice could be a nice contribution on the 4Kids era

And I might get flamed from certain fans out there(Pokemon *cough*) but to be honest I find Sonic the best work 4Kids ever have(and one of Lacey's best work)
said at 12:15 PM on Tue Feb 3 2015
@HienFan Yes, Sonic games were definitely the best work by 4Kids. That's something I'll probably never disagree with.

Lacey was pretty good as Princess Elise but I don't hate the character like most people do. Mainly because I stayed clear from the game at all costs.
said at 8:05 PM on Tue Feb 3 2015
@Ross123 I don't think she was bad, I prefer Chip less for starters though that's partly because I find his voice weird on him

Veronica Taylor sounds more "princess-like" to me. Lacey's more natural, but I'd imagine her as someone like Hope Kintobor from the Archie comics rather than Princess Elise.

I really liked Elise's character, it was interesting. Can you imagine not being able to cry for your whole life? That takes strength.

Anywho, I had no idea that Veronica would have voiced Elise; it would have been interesting if they kept her. She might have given Elise more of a harder, serious, and perhaps even cold tone if played right (If Elise were to be completely stiff and formal, even looking down upon others.).
Lacey Chabert was great, too, however. I loved her performance in the game.

Overall, I like them both very much.

@Rabindranith We don't know why exactly Veronica was replaced, but Sega probably did it as a marketing/publicity/hype thing. It may sound crazy nowadays, but Sonic 2006 was meant to be a huge deal before release. Sega wanted it to be the biggest, baddest Sonic game ever, so they likely figured getting a "celebrity" VA would help drum up some attention and maybe give the cast some "credibility".

...and then it got rushed to meet the holiday shopping season and we all know how it turned out in the end.

Even though Lacey wasn't great in this role, she still has the better voice for Elise. I love Veronica but she sounds a little old, hell she sounds like a queen rather than a princess.
I'm not a huge fan of Elise but I suppose I'll go with Lacey on this one.

Disregarding the fact that I'm comparing perhaps the worst character in the Sonic franchise in the worst Sonic game ever..............

Lacey actually did pretty well considering that she was only cast so the game could have a big name celebrity on it. She sounds like a teenager and again, disregarding her character and the game she was in overall, she did good for what she had.

Veronica wasn't half bad herself, had they kept her in the game, I don't really think anything would have changed.

No offense to the great Veronica Taylor (who, back in '06, was of the only decent 4Kids VAs, aside from Bella Hudson, Mike Pollock & Dan Green), but she sounds more like a Queen than a Princess.

In other words, a bit too old, a lot more "butch" than I'm used to from her & way too monotone for my liking.

Lacey Chabert wins this round (plus she's a babe, as well). But why did Sega/Sonic Team cast her in the first place? Hmmm, I wonder.....
said at 9:36 PM on Mon Jan 9 2012

As I said in my previous posting, it's likely that Sega wanted some sort of celebrity name attached to Sonic 06, as the game was hyped up to be the rebirth of Sonic at the time. So Sega probably thought hiring a fairly well-known actress to be a part of the game would gather some attention to it, thus potentially increasing sales.

Sadly, all of this didn't matter as the game was viewed as a big disappointment by many gamers.

I'm going with Lacey Chabert for Elise's voice. She sounded a bit more innocent and added some elegance to the role. She also did good at making Elise sound conflicted with herself when she felt sad or miserable over what was going on in the story. Overall, she was quite good for the job.

Veronica Taylor was pretty decent for what we were able to hear. She didn't make Elise sound quite as innocent as Lacey did and made her sound a bit more authoritative somewhat. She actually sounds kinda like Delia (Ash's mom) from Pokemon, since she voiced her there. Therefore, I'm not sure if she was the best 4kids VA for a character like Elise. Still, she was pretty alright.

It's interesting that Sega hired Lacey Chabert as a last minute decision, especially since she's not a 4kids VA. They likely did it as a marketing gimmick to hype up Sonic 06. I'm sure Veronica Taylor would've been fine for the role had Sega kept her clips in the final game, but Lacey actually sounded like an improvement for the character.

So now we have Princess Elise, one of the characters from the Sonic Universe that should have never existed... and it's funny because I should be speaking the same way about Silver (Pothead), Blaze's backstory being incorrect in Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, Omega's inclusion to Sonic Heroes, and the concept of giving weapons and vehicles to the Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog. The former (Silver) is something I can fully stomach now because I saw footage from Sonic Generations before launch. The other (Blaze's backstory) is still giving me problematic issues, while E-123 Omega himself is just a carbon copy of E-102 Gamma, in my honest opinion. But the idea of Shadow with any sort of weaponry and/or transportation is just... {shivers} But this comment is getting long, so let me finish with this.

I won't vote for anyone in particular for this voice compare, but giving credit to Lacey Chabert is never a bad thing. In fact, I haven't even heard her performance in the flesh, before. And as for Taylor... eh. She's okay, to say the least. Personally, Veronica Taylor has had better roles (Leo Kliesen, Ash Ketchum, Yuri Sakazaki)

@PurpleWarrior13 From a preview of the game before it came out, it mentions Veronica as Elise. They got Pete Capella as Silver right, so I'm pretty sure it's accurate.
