OTHER SONIC THE HEDGEHOG COMPARES
Sonic the Hedgehog

Voice Compare » Sonic the Hedgehog » Princess Elise

Comparision of the voice over actors who have been the voice of Princess Elise with sound clips and images.
Elise is the princess of Soleanna, making her only appearance in Sonic 2006. Both of her parents died, leaving her the kingdom's ruler. Elise cannot afford to cry, because doing so would release the demon Iblis. Throughout the game she develops an intimate friendship with Sonic, but she is eventually forced to leave him in order to destroy Solaris.

Elise is voiced by Lacey Chabert in the final version of '06. Her casting was clearly a late decision, as in a preliminary version of the opening FMV she is instead voiced by Veronica Taylor.

EDITOR'S OPINION

Lacey sounded more natural. Veronica was pretty good too, though a little too mature-sounding.

Disregarding the fact that I'm comparing perhaps the worst character in the Sonic franchise in the worst Sonic game ever..............

Lacey actually did pretty well considering that she was only cast so the game could have a big name celebrity on it. She sounds like a teenager and again, disregarding her character and the game she was in overall, she did good for what she had.

Veronica wasn't half bad herself, had they kept her in the game, I don't really think anything would have changed.

Sadly though, Elise is easily the worst, if not one of the worst characters introduced post-4Kids as she represents everything wrong with that era. Though I'm paraphrasing there from a youtube video.

When Elise shouts "Help Sonic help!" in Radical Train, is that Veronica Taylor speaking? Because it didn't sound like Lacey Chabert....

Lacey's sounds more like a teenager to me. Though, Veronica's is still very good.

Veronica. I'm not just choosing her because of her other roles, she sounds more fitting to me.

No offense to the great Veronica Taylor (who, back in '06, was of the only decent 4Kids VAs, aside from Bella Hudson, Mike Pollock & Dan Green), but she sounds more like a Queen than a Princess.

In other words, a bit too old, a lot more "butch" than I'm used to from her & way too monotone for my liking.

Lacey Chabert wins this round (plus she's a babe, as well). But why did Sega/Sonic Team cast her in the first place? Hmmm, I wonder.....

@MilanTheVillain01

As I said in my previous posting, it's likely that Sega wanted some sort of celebrity name attached to Sonic 06, as the game was hyped up to be the rebirth of Sonic at the time. So Sega probably thought hiring a fairly well-known actress to be a part of the game would gather some attention to it, thus potentially increasing sales.

Sadly, all of this didn't matter as the game was viewed as a big disappointment by many gamers.

@BlueSkySlash Actually, Lacey Chabert wanted to be in a Sonic game. There was an opening and she took it.

I'm going with Lacey Chabert for Elise's voice. She sounded a bit more innocent and added some elegance to the role. She also did good at making Elise sound conflicted with herself when she felt sad or miserable over what was going on in the story. Overall, she was quite good for the job.

Veronica Taylor was pretty decent for what we were able to hear. She didn't make Elise sound quite as innocent as Lacey did and made her sound a bit more authoritative somewhat. She actually sounds kinda like Delia (Ash's mom) from Pokemon, since she voiced her there. Therefore, I'm not sure if she was the best 4kids VA for a character like Elise. Still, she was pretty alright.

It's interesting that Sega hired Lacey Chabert as a last minute decision, especially since she's not a 4kids VA. They likely did it as a marketing gimmick to hype up Sonic 06. I'm sure Veronica Taylor would've been fine for the role had Sega kept her clips in the final game, but Lacey actually sounded like an improvement for the character.

I saw once on IMDb that Taylor's credit was listed "in talks."

So now we have Princess Elise, one of the characters from the Sonic Universe that should have never existed... and it's funny because I should be speaking the same way about Silver (Pothead), Blaze's backstory being incorrect in Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, Omega's inclusion to Sonic Heroes, and the concept of giving weapons and vehicles to the Ultimate Lifeform, Shadow the Hedgehog. The former (Silver) is something I can fully stomach now because I saw footage from Sonic Generations before launch. The other (Blaze's backstory) is still giving me problematic issues, while E-123 Omega himself is just a carbon copy of E-102 Gamma, in my honest opinion. But the idea of Shadow with any sort of weaponry and/or transportation is just... {shivers} But this comment is getting long, so let me finish with this.

I won't vote for anyone in particular for this voice compare, but giving credit to Lacey Chabert is never a bad thing. In fact, I haven't even heard her performance in the flesh, before. And as for Taylor... eh. She's okay, to say the least. Personally, Veronica Taylor has had better roles (Leo Kliesen, Ash Ketchum, Yuri Sakazaki)

Hmmm... that doesn't sound like Veronica Taylor... but I suppose Lacey is the better casting, even if she did overact a little (which is surprising for her).

@PurpleWarrior13 From a preview of the game before it came out, it mentions Veronica as Elise. They got Pete Capella as Silver right, so I'm pretty sure it's accurate.

@NCZ I do believe it's Veronica. I was just saying that it doesn't sound like her voice. Veronica has a very distinctive sound to her, so it was interesting to hear her play this kind of role and use a different sort of voice.
