And now to start the Slayers Voice Compare section believe it or not we shall start this section with the show's main character namely one of the most renowned heroines in all of anime LINA INVERSE!

Ever since the mid-90's the first VA to have ever voiced Lina in English is known New York VA Lisa Ortiz. And to be honest Lisa Ortiz's voice work as Lina is quite possibly one of the most praised performances in her entire career and quite frankly I can see why. Lisa's Lina voice is a nice mixture of cuteness and fiery tempered energy much like Lina herself.

And whenever ADV got to dub any of the Slayers anime theiy cast VA Cynthia Martinez whom is also quite a suitable choice too. Cynthia was also able to a fairly high cutesy voice as her performance is also suiting from this fiery red-headed pettanko, and while I admit I am not REALLY familiar with Cynthia's work this is probably the best performance in her career.

Overall both are very good, I admit I am slightly going with Lisa Ortiz a bit more but both are a fine example of their respective VAs work.

Not a fan of Lisa Ortiz, just in terms of... Lina. The way she performs spell incantations is just so stunted and awkward that it makes me cringe and want to plug my ears. Cynthia at least does it in a way that sounds natural and more like an actual spell. Lisa just makes them sound like nursery rhymes.

The two things that keep me from watching the TV series dubbed: David Moo and the spell incantations.

Lisa Ortiz is the clear winner, listening to Cynthia Martinez's ear exploding screeches...

man (imo) the ADV dub really isn't aged well besides one or two voices and I'm afraid to say that Cynthia (although a decent voice actress) is one of the weak points.

Now I know why I recognize her voice from! It's Amy from Sonic x! XD

Lisa Ortiz tends to annoy me elsewhere very often, but Cynthia Martinez's screams and gruffer voice grate on me, and this is arguably Lisa Ortiz's best role where she gave the character a lot of spunk and energy, so I have to go with her.

Neither are that ideal to me but I guess I will go with Lisa even if I like Megumi Hayashibara more

Lisa Ortiz's definitive role is right here. I do like her as a voice actor. I know she's been criticized as having a lack of range, but she did a great job with Lina Inverse. I always thought she brought a lot of charisma and charm to the role. She was also pretty funny here. I say she's the best for Lina.

Cynthia Martinez was actually also pretty good in the role, but her delivery was off at times. Also, Lisa Ortiz is more memorable in this role, and so I say she was the best for this character.

@OldSchoolFTW Agreed completely about Lisa Ortiz' Lina, but I disagree that Cynthia was any good in the role. Listening to the clip alone...she's just PAINFUL to the ears. Makes Lina sound completely annoying and unlikable.

Yeah: I do agree when I think about it.

@OldSchoolFTW I think Lisa Ortiz has a lot of range. She's often pigeonholed into cutsie girl roles, but she has a great villainess voice as seen in Winx Club where she was Musa AND Icy using completely different voices. Her lower evil voice is quite distinct and a big departure from her "Amy Rose" voices. Also, she's done a couple boy roles (notably Tony Tony Chopper), and while it's not much of a stretch from her girl voices, the nasally voice she gave Chopper showed she had some range. Is she the most versatile voice actress in the world? No, but there's no question that she still has some range, and her acting often more than makes up for this. She's like Jennifer Hale in that regard.

I agree with you myself, but some people always critique her for it for some reason or another. I don't get it, either. lol.

@OldSchoolFTW I've never really understood the backlash against Lisa either. She's easily one of my favorite VAs of all time. She first won my heart as Deedlit from "Record of Lodoss War." Since then, I've loved everything I've listened to her in unreservedly (I haven't seen ONE PIECE 4Kids though -- does that make me lucky or unfortunate?)

I actually love them both, but I think I'll slightly give Lisa the edge. Cynthia worked better as a bit of a younger Lina, but Lisa was great all around, and really captured Lina's strange persona well. But I will admit, only Cynthia can pull off the "Explosion Array" yell, and she put in a lot of energy, and was great in the Lina/Naga adventures (her chemistry with Kelly Manison was perfect)! However, at the same time, Lisa is the only one I can imagine as Lina in the TV series, and worked well against her co-stars (Eric Stuart, Crispin Freeman, Veronica Taylor, etc). Like I said, both are so fantastic! But I give Lisa the edge for really capturing the character a tad better and having slightly better acting ability.
